KingLlama
Hey all, I know it's way far off(six months away), but as someone who hasn't been to Kings Island since the Paramount days, I have a few questions about the Halloween event on weekends in September/October... 1. What percentage of the rides in the park are actually open? Specifically, coasters and the Planet Snoopy area? 2. Is the "scary stuff" confined to a certain section of the park, or a certain time of the night(say, after 9:00 p.m.)? In other words, can I take the kids throughout the park without them getting scared to death, if we're there from lunchtime to dinnertime?(They're 7 and 3, by the way). 3. Is it still the regular admission price? If so, are there usually special offers to knock some $$$ off, since it's late in the season? 4. Is it worth it? It would be our only amusement park trip of the year, and I'd love to knock out a few coasters and have the kids ride the Camp Snoopy stuff. Want to make sure that for the price and limited hours, it's worth the trip and expense. Thanks, all.
Colonel_SoB_fan
All rides and attractions are open throughout the day. The only rides that do not run during Haunt is Planet Snoopy, that is where Nightmare Ally, Carnevil, and Holiday Horrors are located. The "scary stuff" is all throughout the park. I would not recommend taking the kids. Monsters come out at 7 p.m. I recommend the Howl O' Fest which is designed for kids it is every day during the Halloween season, except Fridays obviously. It is still regular admission I believe, except Friday nights. I know last year Wendy's or McD had discount tickets for KI during Halloween season. If you like the Halloween time it is well worth it. Even if the kids are afraid you can go during the day and see the park decorated up and participate in kid friendly halloween events. BB1
If you ever have been to Universals halloween displays, your quota maybe altered on expections. Every thing that Colonel_SoB_Fan said is absolutely correct on my stance, but the theming changes every year, like new attractions, & the old being destroyed. Diamondbacker
Like Colonel_SOB_Fan said, don't take your children. The mazes and monsters will be too much for them. I would suggest going early on one of those Saturdays or Sundays during Haunt season. Howl-O-Fest is lightly attended. Last year, if you paid the $5 upcharge for Dinosaurs Alive!, the children going through the display could go trick-or-treating. That sounded like a blast to me. If I had the choice between Haunt and Howl-O-Fest, and I was with my little brothers/sister, I'd go Howl-O-Fest. As I said before, this event is lightly attended, as many families are at soccer or football games with their children. Planet Snoopy is wide open, as well as the rest of the park. TromaKing
As the actual Haunt does not happen on Sundays, I would suggest you take the kiddies on a Sunday. Everything is open and for the most part the park is empty. Friday haunt starts just before the park opens and the kiddies would probably be scared before you get through the turnstyle if you get there at opening. I cant tell you much about the day time on Saturdays as I am usually busy with my kids doing sporting events.
Browntggrr
From DDN in 2011: Helbig said the afternoon festival is family friendly. The evening atmosphere contains more graphic images and is recommended for mature audiences. http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/dayton-news/kings-islands-halloween-haunt-now-open-weekends-1256094.html IMO, KI should not allow guests under 16 without parent supervision for the HH hours. The event is for mature audiences, and the appropriateness of many of the "skits" have been discussed (beat to death) here (KIC).
countess_of_tuscany
I would also agree not to bring kids after 7pm unless the parents truly feel that they can handle it. I'd say it depends on the child, but for kids who are scared easily, Halloween Haunt is rather gory and intense, sometimes even I get grossed out (especially Slaughterhouse!). Plus, there are Scareactors everywhere in the park at night, and they jump out at you and even stalk you sometimes. It is a super fun time (my favorite time to visit!) but most kids may not be able to handle it. On the other hand, Howl-O-Fest seems really cute and fun for kids of all ages, and trick-or-treating with the dinosaurs is super fun, you get lots of candy and prizes and there's so many activities for kids to do. I think Kings Island does a super job of appealing to all ages, no matter your fright-tolerance level. There's something for everyone! No matter what time of the year you go, I'm sure you'll have a great time!

Dalefan
People still take kids in during the Haunt time despite warnings and get mad at the park when they get scared or see something bad. I know we were told by our Haunt superviser last year to not scare kids under a certin age.

I know we were told by our Haunt superviser last year to not scare kids under a certin age. When we are hiding we can't see who's coming and scare who ever is there. Many times during the Haunt last year I felt terrible for making little kids cry, but hey the parents should have known better.
TrainedBeast
As said before in this topic, DO NOT BRING THE KIDS. As a now former scare actor it is EXTREMELY frightening to younger kids.. I'd recommend a Babysitter. If you want to do things with the kids without worry of the Scare Actors, do a Sunday. There's Hall-o-Fest and a lot for them to do. If you want to go for you to go, get a baby sitter and go on Friday. Fridays are usually the quieter days for just going to Haunt. You'll get the full experience and get to do everything. If you plan on doing both, go Saturday but take the kids out of the park around 4 or so due to the actors walking out early. Also, Fastlane or Frightlane passes are a must for saturdays if you want the full experience. Ticket prices are cheaper than regular season, so you can get a great deal if you pre buy your tickets online, print them and bring them with you.. You can also get them at Will Call. Also make sure to pay attention to the signs outside the haunts if you go.. If you have medical conditions they list what happens in those mazes. If you have any other questions feel free!
jdawg1998
I remember last year there was a little girl (about 7 I'd say) and a monster came up behind her mom and scared her. The little girl started crying and screaming, and the mom said, "C'mon, man, I have a little girl! That was so uncalled for!" - Wow, really? In the end though, the "monster" gave the girl a hug... The Interpreter
Even monsters have mommies (which is why some mom's kids are monsters!).

Nice job of the monster to rectify the situation, but the mother should have made a better decision than to bring a young child. I am a parent of young kids (older than the one in the story) and there is no way I would even think of bringing my kids to HH at night. XGatorHead 8904
As a now former scare actor This makes me sad. We'll miss you! I remember last year there was a little girl (about 7 I'd say) and a monster came up behind her mom and scared her. If I see a scared little kid coming through the house, I stick out my hand for them to give me a high five. Only once has a kid turned me down. khaoskat
Now on the other hand, CP's Halloween event is kid friendly. Their haunts open around 3 pm for indoors and I think around 7 pm for outdoors (and I believe they had some open on Sunday as well). If you go through a "haunt" with a child they tone it down to a kid friendly level and then scare the crap out of the people walking immediately behind you. I took my then 6 year old through blood on the bayou last year (he wanted to go)...he laughed hysterically through it...but the guests behind us started running in front of us or standing right with us. PhantomTheater
CP opens haunts at 8pm fri, 5pm indoor and 8pm outdoor sat, 3pm indoor and 7pm outdoor (last four weekends) sun. The houses and zones (except boo hill) are not designed to be kid friendly and parentel discrestion is advised.
Browntggrr
Halloweekends is not nearly as scary as HH. It is not easy to fill hotels without families.
