Roller Soaker at Hersheypark listed for sale

Featured Replies

Yeah, I'm glad Hershey is finally selling this piece of junk.

Actually thats an interesting site you linked to... anyone here want to buy a greased lightning?

Supersatuator was gone 4 years ago I believe. Rollersoaker was down last time I was there.

Even if I were filthy rich with tons of land and the means to purchase Rollersoaker, I still don't think I would.

We liked it better then skyrush.

What did you dislike about Skyrush? I've heard great things about it, but have also heard that the restraints made the immense amounts of airtime painful.

Hersheypark officials are not selling one of the amusement park's roller coasters.

An online report at themeparktourist.com indicating that the Roller Soaker was listed on the ride exchange service Rides4U, with a price tag of $799,000, turned out to be a mistake, a park official reported on Thursday.

"The ride is not for sale," Hersheypark spokeswoman Kathy Burrows said.

Hersheypark officials had been contacted by a company that indicated another party was interested in buying the ride, Burrows explained. But Hersheypark wasn't interested in selling it.

The company that contacted Hersheypark officials "jumped the gun" and listed the ride for sale, she said, adding that the company has removed the ride from its listing and has apologized to Hersheypark officials.

Burrows couldn't comment on the future of the ride, saying only that "it's going to stay for the season."

The amusement park unveiled the Roller Soaker in the northwest section of the park in the summer of 2002. The roughly 90-second ride allows riders - four to a car and armed with pots of water - to douse vulnerable spectators 50 feet below. Ground visitors also had access to a number of powerful water blasters along the roller coaster's path to retaliate for attacks from riders.

Setpoint Inc. of Ogden, Utah, designed and manufactured the 1,300-foot Roller Soaker, which cost nearly $8 million. At the time, it was the first such ride

in the Northeast.

I have to wonder if it really was for sale, and Hersheypark is not ready to announce it, or if it really won't be leaving soon.

And they are expanding Chocolate World, mostly with about 10,000 square feet of retail space.

The Setpoint rides like this, never really caught on. As was mentioned, they were horrible with capacity. I only rode the one that was at Carowinds. And while it was a fun ride, I think its lack of throughput is really what hurt these attractions. Setpoint really hasn`t done much other than these types of rides. It will be interesting to see what is added in its spot.

For those of you who have not been to Hershey, it is a fun park, and definitely worth a visit. I was able to visit in 2011, and had a fun time there.

maybe with that 700,000 dollar price tag it could be moved to coney island! ^_^ Too Soon??

And why would Coney need a ride that already has a horrid capacity? Have you visited Coney when it is busy and seen the line for the Python? It is a SLOW moving line.

Not to mention, and I'll say it, Roller Soaker really wasn't much fun. At all. Without the water effects, it was nearly as thrilling as what is now situate in Kings Island's former Paramount Story. Almost.

With the water effects working, I'd agree.

I fear, though, it would be a high maintenance coaster, and the water bill would certainly soar.

“We took it down because guests kept saying they wanted more water, and we felt repurposing or redoing that area would do that for our guests,” said Kathy Burrows, Hersheypark spokeswoman.

The sprayground certainly won’t have the high-energy thrills roller coaster junkies crave, and it reduces the park’s roller coaster bragging rights from an even dozen to 11. But, in keeping with Hersheypark’s family theme, the sprayground will appeal to all ages.

Indeed. I never road it, but if it was anything like the ride experience offered by Super Saturator at Carowinds, it was a rather boring ride experience. The only thing that really made it a fun attraction was the interactivity of it all and the fact that you had levers that could dump water on unsuspecting people on the ground.

^ And the chance of dumping water on an unsuspecting person was rather low.

And you could only do so once. Then, when you got off or later in the day in the park, you might run into a less than happy dumpee.

At CP many years ago, we would get many laughs by being "devious" at WWL.

There used to be a "mountain" theme on the ride (except for about the last 3-5 years of WWL's existance) that would pour water directly in the center of the boat.

We would get the attention of those in the boat from the midway & they would just stare at us while rounding the corner, never seeing the pouring water. Then WHAMMMOOO! wet riders.

Those CP employees attending to the train laughed as hard as we did.
