thekidd33
Top Ten Roller Coasters at Ohio's Kings Island As someone who has a big fascination with stats/rankings I always enjoy these types of articles. Nice to see the park get an article like this all to itself.
Aaron88stang
agreed, but past the top two I have to start disagreeing with his rankings.
BB1
Really Woodstock before Flight Deck? I wonder, who made this stats and who was asked for the poll? May this be why I dont believe everything on the interwebs?
dudecoasterman
Why is Flying Ace Ariel Chase on this list while Invertigo isn't?
Colonel_SoB_fan
Reading his reasoning I can agree with him. Plus Woodstock Express is a great ride.
Dieseltech20
I would rather ride WE. We only ride Flight Deck once a year.
The Interpreter
IT was NOT the first wood coaster with a vertical loop. The Beast was NOT built by PTC. Sigh.
TheCrypt
Not to mention our 215' B&M Mega Coaster in Rivertown.
beastrider97
I just don't get it. Uninformed authors who feel the need to write about the top 10 coasters at a park where there are only 13! May as well write a little blurb about all of them.
jdawg1998
I really don't see how Flight of Fear is #8. Yes, it's his opinion, but whatchu talkin' bout Willis?
Dvo
Let's be serious. No KI top 10 is complete without some Adventure Express love.
Original
(*sniff*) Why is woodstock express before flight deck? And Backlot! And Flight of Fear!?!? (*sniff*) Vortex!?!?! WHATS HAPPENING TO MY MIND?!? YOUR MESSING WITH IT!!!
Colonel_SoB_fan
Also he is writing for the LA Times, most of his audience will not visit KI.
jdawg1998
Still can't get over the fact he ranked FoF #8, behind Woodstock Express...tell me how a family wooden coaster that goes 35mph and is 40 years old beats a 54mph launched coaster into darkness with 4 inversions, all themed to aliens. lopan
I was mostly annoyed by Adventure Express being not even on the list. Even my 6 year old goes " i wana ride the boom boom ride" (what she calls the guys at the end) every time we go there
AintNutinElse2Do
Ugh the Kings Island list doesn't bother me nearly as much as the Dollywood one. I mean come on we all know it goes. #1 Thunderhead #1 Tennessee Tornado #3 Wild Eagle #4 Slidewinder #5 Barnstormer #6 Blazing Fury #7 Smoky Mountain River Rampage #8 Adventure Mountain #9 Dare Devil Falls #10 Dizzy Disc Yes I meant to have two #1's just couldn't make the choice so they tied. beastrider97
^I guess you have a strong dislike for Mystery Mine?
KIfan1980
I don't like to criticize others for the choices that they make in identifying a top ten as it is by definition subjective and personal. To demonstrate, at KI my top 10 is broken down as follows: - Top 3: Beast, Diamondback, Vortex - 4-7: Firehawk, Racer, Flight Deck, BLSC - 8-10: Woodstock Express, Flying Ace, FOF - 11-14: AE, Invertigo, Pumpkin, Surf Dog (mainly cuz I think of it as a flat) Bottom line, I can see a top ten without AE and FOF pretty low on the list I will, however, criticize a lack of journalistic research and sloppy reporting if necessary.
AintNutinElse2Do
^^ Ha my bad Mystery Mine slipped my mind I would actually put it at #5 and move the others below it down a notch. The fact it slipped my mind tells ya something though. It only makes the list because of the ending though. Granted I'm the same guy that put Disaster Transport over Maverick at Cedar Point as I'm convinced Maverick is the euthenasia coaster with the kill element removed.
Thrill_Biscuit
I have to say, AE is one of the most underrated coasters in the world, and I think it's just a matter of perspective, given the selection of other major coasters in the park.
BeastForever
The Beast has FOUR tunnels, not three; and was built by KECO, not PTC. BLSC is a double-launched coaster, not a triple-launched coaster. Diamondback is 230' tall, its drop is 215'. It is also just plain silly to call DB a 'hyper viper'. Firehawk goes 51 mph, not 50 mph. I think that's all of them, I just love to knitpick and point out these such vacuous and careless mistakes!
TheCrypt
The Beast has 3 tunnels; 1- Base of first drop. 2-turn after the straight section with brakes (brake shed) 3- Double helix. Where are you getting the fourth? Backlot Stunt Coaster is a triple-launch coaster. There is the first launch section as well as the midcourse brakes with the fire. The third one is a little more subtle, and is there to provide a little more speed just in case the MCBR launch didn't provide enough speed. It is placed right before the billboard bust-through, and you can feel and hear the train passing through. Check it out next time! I can't find a good picture. Sorry.
BeastForever
You pass through the helix tunnel twice though, wouldn't that be classified as FOUR tunnels? I'd think so but then again I may be wrong.
VortexBFForever
I got suspicious when it said that Vortex "delivers jolting blows to the chin and neck." Seriously, I've never experienced anything close to that on Vortex. A few might have, but that doesn't mean EVERYONE would experience it that way... TheCrypt
You pass through the helix tunnel twice though, wouldn't that be classified as FOUR tunnels? I'd think so but then again I may be wrong. Are they seperate tunnels?
BeastForever
Well, no not really. The train passes under the over lapping helix track into the tunnel FIRST. Then the second passing through the tunnel passes over the prior track. This is what it looks like...
LongliveKingsCobra
Then I'd call that one tunnel, that the train just passes through again....
TheCrypt
I'm quite familiar with the track layout of The Beast, thank you. Just because the track goes through the tunnel twice does not mean it is 2 seperate tunnels.
markr
Since there is a break in the tunnel after going around the lower helix before entering the tunnel on the upper helix, I would call that two tunnels. The second tunnel past the break shed used to be two tunnels before being connected as one tunnel. Its the same logic. I never thought about this issue before, ie are there two tunnels or just one tunnel on the final helices ( If I spelled helices wrong or if I improperly categorized one helix as two, I apologize. Whew-I'm exhausted from thinking up this post.)
BeastForever
Whatever. Say what you want but in my book The Beast will always have FOUR tunnels. Whew-I'm exhausted from thinking up this post.) I always kind of thought of it a tunnel on top of a tunnel, so that's why to me it's two tunnels. I'm quite familiar with the track layout of The Beast, thank you. Yeah I know, I just thought that the video would make my post more interesting.
