Best day to visit?

Hello! Haven't posted or been to KI in a very long time. I'm going home in August (a whole month yay!!) and making KI visit a priority. My family went up Saturday and I need to get my butt on that Diamonback.

Question is, what day is the best day to go up? We'll be buying tickets for 2 adults and 2 children and I want to go when the US kids are back in school as it will be quieter? But looks like the park has limited hours starting mid August? What about a ride on The Beast in the dark then?

23rd going to be super crowded? I really want to go on a quiet day to get the most ride time possible.

Thanks for you views. I know I hardly ever post, but I stalk quite a bit. Makes my heart happy to hear about good times at the park I love.

Honestly alot of variables play and now summer is in full session for kids & whatnot. Best times are still midweek days. I also tend to go on days where it's 20 or so give or take because people get the "oh noez, rain" vibe and it isn't too bad. Also if it rains, it's just water, I bring my apecs gore-tex parka anyways so I'l good to go.

Watch the weather, and watch the parks calendar and see what you can mix in

If you're only doing one day just spend the extra and buy the Fast Lane. You can wait until you get into the park. Chances are it won't be too crowded but you may be surprised how many people go to Kings Island that week. It's really hit or miss. I used to go that week every year. Then I think word got out that it wasn't busy.

The husb is barely going to be able to be drug in there at the price as it is. He definitely won't splurge for the Fast Lane!

How busy is the park these days? We always went up on Wednesday... from like 1980-1996... so, that would be the last time i remember going up regularly and it was usually a walk on everything midweek bar the coasters.

If youre coming in August, I know my wife's school starts back like the 16th or something. They moving towards an earlier release date (right after memorial day I believe going forward) so they may start back up a little sooner than other schools, but it seems to be a trend in more and more schools. Check the parks schedule, and if you can go the week of the 19th or even better the week of the 26th, you might have very short lines.

I'm not sure if HS football kicks off that early or if it starts a week later. HS football is pretty popular in this area, it ties up a lot of the school age kids who either play or go to watch their friends/relatives play or just as a social event. In many communities, the friday evening football game is the "thing" to do, and the town pretty much shuts down for a couple of hours.

However, I'd expect friday to be a litttle busier than a thursday. If you're planning on going all day, I wouldn't worry too much about th 8:00 shutdown. I don't know if they'll do fireworks, and a night ride on The Beast is always fun, which you won't get at that time during august, but I'd expect pretty light crowds middle of the week and you'll be more than able to get a ton of rides in, you might be ready to leave by 8:00 any ways after 10 hours of ride warrioring.

As far as the fast pass goes, I'm not sure how close you are to the park, but if you go the week of the 20th, I'd expect light crowds, many schools will be back in sessions, for those not in session yet, kids will be in full practice mode for their fall sports, families will be gearing up for the start of schools, so you won't have many people traveling to visit KI. I wouldn't purchase a fast pass until you got to the park. Another thing to consider, how much is a 2 day pass? I believe you have the option to purchase a return day after getting your 1 day pass as long as you do it on the day you visit. If you're staying close to the park during that time, it may be a more worthwhile venture to get a return pass than fast pass (and it may be cheaper, not sure what the cost difference b/w the two are)

thanks for that. I'm in Ft Thomas, KY so it's only a 30 minute drive. It's just getting an adult who's not working to come with me as would be not so much fun on my own with a 4 and 5 year old! So looking forward to this. Been looking at pictures and videos all week. You know it's been 15 years since I've ridden The Beast?! Last time I was there was 3 years ago and got on everything else but the "new" stuff (Delirium, Invertigo, Diamondback) cause of the queues.

I went to Chessington and rode the runaway train though. LOL!

People having trouble fitting in Diamondback? I've got big thighs... how big are we talking here? My brother laughed and said "don't worry, you'll be fine" but I read through the boards as it's a topic that comes up a lot and it seems that people get turned away from it quite regularly? I know, I know, the test seat. Think they'd bring a test seat over to let me try NOW? ;)

Here's my list: (for Carowinds, but I'm assuming its pretty much the same there)

Weekdays Good

Sunday Good

Friday Good, as long as there aren't a million school groups there.

Saturday TERRIBLE. That's when it seems like everyone in the whole state is there!!!!!

Since you're going w/ a 4 & 5 year old, a couple of pointers.

There is a height measuring station to the left of the fountains when you first enter the park (its actually pretty well hidden, its right by the fast pass booth so head over to the lockers by the entrance and you should be able to spot it, but also look in guest relations; they used to move it inside at times last year, however I'm not sure they do it all this year, since its now under a canopy) It will save you time from having to get your kids measured on every ride.

Get a good feel for what their height is before heading into the park. No need to hype up The Beast if they're not going to be able to ride it. My son turns 5 shortly, he's pretty tall for his age, and just barely below 48", so there's a good chance neither of your kids will be able to ride The Beast, racers, flight deck, or any of the other 48" rides.

On the flip side, if they're on the short end, be sure to check the height requirements for all the flats, some things like monster or scrambler have a lower height requirement (36" and 40" respectively) than you might think, so even if they're below 48" there are things around the park that they can get on; you're not just restricted to Planet Snoopy.

Thank you.

I measured them as they both had hospital appointments for seperate things recently. 4 year old is 43.5 inches and 5 year old is 45. I'm gutted they won't be on the any big roller coasters.Absolutely gutted. I rode The Racer, Bat, Screamin Demon when I was 4-5! Those are very high height limits. Thomas is able to ride nearly everything at Chessington except the Vampire, and that messed up snake thing.

There's a place where you can get them a wristband saying how tall they are, yes? Thinking of doing the 2 day thing and doing one child day and one grown up day. I was at the park 3 years ago for one day, but they were babies then.

We did Coney last year and they absolutely LOVED that and were able to ride everything that they wanted to, as well!
