The Interpreter
I'm sure they lock into place, just not progressively after leaving the station, right? If they didn't lock into place, what would be the point?
TTD-120-420
I never understood the point of the vests anyways. The lap bar that comes down should be more than enough.
Creed Bratton
The vests are there to control upper body movement.
TTD-120-420
I get that, but are they needed? Can you say that your upper body really moves that much during the ride that a vest is needed? I'm not a ride engineer, obviously, but I just don't see the point.
Ride On_17
This is exciting news. I can't wait to see first hand how the restraints are different, and hopefully this is true that all the restraints don't lock anymore. My next visit will probably be in 2 weeks so I'm sure someone else on here will get there by then, but if not I'll be sure to let people know how they are. BeastForever
It's not just the vests that suck, but Gatekeeper's jackhammering is one of the worst I've ever experienced on a steel coaster. It is actually beyond me how people call that thing smooth.
YoungStud
Teeth are not supposed to chatter on a steel coaster let alone a brand new one that cost 25 million.
BeastForever
^If it's already this bad in it's first year, imagine how bad it's going to be in 5, 10, or even 20 years!
YoungStud
But since CF is buying b&m's currently people look the other way at issues.
Diamondbacker27
I think its extremly smooth. IMO
Ride On_17
I'd even say it's smoother than Millennium. It's not just the vests that suck, but Gatekeeper's jackhammering is one of the worst I've ever experienced on a steel coaster. It is actually beyond me how people call that thing smooth. And it's beyond me how there are so many people who call it unbearably rough.
Jr for Birdy
It is by no means smoother than Millie, but if you ride it and then ride Raptor? WOW, like going from a Cadillac to a hooptie! Just my opinion friends.
Ride On_17
I find Millennium to have had rougher rides than usual (more shuffling and vibrations). I just personally think that GK is very smooth and I've never had a problem with its smoothness before.
TTD-120-420
It all depends what train you get. From what I have heard, two trains give smooth rides and then there is one that vibrates really badly.
Ride On_17
I must just be really lucky and haven't been on that 3rd rough train. I hope it stays that way.
YoungStud
I heard there are two sets of wheels. One set that is smooth and has to be replaced more frequently. One set that is rough but has more longevity.
BoddaH1994
I rode GK four times last Sunday. I rode in several different seats in several different trains. I had heard about the "bouncing" that others have experienced. On one of my rides, I felt it. I didn't find it to be bad, in fact, I barely noticed it. I'd go as far as saying that it is a very smooth ride. The restraints? I had heard nothing but bad things. I had heard everything from sharp collar bone pain to constricted breathing. Cedar Point said they knew about the issue and were in the process of fixing it. I really think they delivered. I had exactly zero issues with the restraints. It gave me a lot more dexterity and freedom - as was intended. I'm actually really excited to have them for Banshee. I'm definitely a much bigger fan of lap bars over OTSRs, but these are definitely hands-down my favorite OTSRs. If you have the opportunity to stop by CP before the end if the season, don't let the restraints deter you. I really think the problem has been remedied. Now the ride experience itself. Meh. I'm glad we are getting an invert instead of a wing rider. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Diamondbill
I rode GK five times Friday night and the vests don't tighten, it made it a lot more comfortable. I'll see what Wild Eagle's do in a few months.
Kat
I'm 5'3" and 102 and the restraints hurt me quite a bit! They dig into my hip bones and rub on my collar bone
Ride On_17
I love the restraints, especially now that they have been fixed (the vests no longer lock in place and don't get progressively tighter during the ride.) I think they are the most comfortable OTSRs ever.
IBEW_Sparky
Train 1 is the vibrating train.... Brad and I made sure we were only on that one once!
