Adventure Express is going no where, it was never meant to be an extreme thrill ride coaster. It just needs it's SFX restored and it will be back to fulfilling it's niche it's meant to fill.

And some more padding. Lol

I would be happy with a more refined year long meal plan and a season long drink plan

Sent from a signal coming out of the Vega system.

With Shake Rattle & Roll currently down, possibly out the door for good (I'm no way saying that I think it's going to leave for good, just putting out the possibility), I am thinking that since KI just added a big thrill ride, that next year they may focus on the family. What Shake Rattle and Roll left, but Eagles or another classic flat ride was added into that space, Surf Dog moved from Planet Snoopy (replaced by a new kids ride) and something takes over the 3 point challenge?

Much like how Cedar Point and Valley Fair re-did a midway for families. I could imagine Surf Dog crossing over Backlot Stunt Coaster's entrance plaza and behind the Rivertown bathrooms.

I doubt 3 point challenge is going anywhere. There is always someone playing it when I walk by so it probably makes a profit after payroll and prize costs.

According to the customer service worker Shake Rattle and Roll is only gone temporarily and is waiting for a part. They didn't say what kind of part though.

I think that Kings Island will tear down Racer, FoF and Firehawk and built the worlds tallest and longest indoor roller coaster and then tear it down 5 years later and leave the empty box there and never do anything with it. (Joking of course). But seriously I would love to see some Soak City improvements. Other than a name change and another wave pool it feels the same as it did 6 years ago. There is a ton of extra land left especially by the new wave pool for another slide or two. I love water parks and slides but other than Mondo Monsoon and Rendezvous Run, they really lack a thrilling water slide. I would be thrilled to see them put in a slide like The Cliff at The Beach but make it a little taller and maybe a Big Boa Falls ride like at Zoonbezi Bay Waterpark at the Columbus Zoo.

How about a lot taller and add a trapdoor release, like Deep Water Dive at KK? I loved that slide and would have ridden it multiple times if the stairs up weren't murder on my legs. Here's an idea: queue on the ground and have a employee-operated elevator to take riders to the top in small groups. (I feel like that has been mentioned recently here on KIC but can't remember by whom or in what thread.)

Stairs tend to limit (re)rides and keep wait times tolerable. They're also good exercise.

I'd rather not see lines like those at Wildebeest and Mammoth.

^ Stairs also limit who can ride. A 12-story body slide is probably best ridden by those able to make the climb to the top. There's also plenty of time to turn around should a rider be intimidated by the increasing height.

A person recovering from a mildly sprained ankle four or five days ago certainly shouldn't be climbing 12 stories of stairs yet, but is perfectly capable of walking on flat ground, standing on the trapdoor, and going down the slide. Why should that person be excluded?

There are probably other medical conditions that would preclude climbing all those stairs but would not preclude riding, and that would potentially bring the ADA and its requirement for "reasonable accommodations" into play. An elevator certainly seems like a reasonable accommodation to me.

Water Slides do not require accessible routes or methods of access. Catch pools, the bodies of water where water slides drop users into the water also do not require an accessible means of entry or exit. However, an accessible route must connect to the edge of the catch pool.

http://www.aquaticsintl.com/ada-compliance/full-access-.aspx

ADA does not mandate access to the top of a water slide, but an accessible route to the catch or plunge pool at the bottom is required. No entry into the catch pool is necessary, however. “By having access to the catch pool, people with disabilities can be close to the play action, which may be important for parents, siblings or friends of those playing on the water slides,” York says.

Additionally, diving boards and platforms themselves are exempt from ADA, but there must be an accessible path to the base of these structures.

“Part of the rationale [for exempting water slides] is that the rider needs to be able to maintain a specific body position to enjoy the ride safely,” says Franceen Gonzales, vice president of risk management at Great Wolf Resorts in Madison, Wis. “For a person who does not have the use of their lower extremities, it is difficult to enjoy a water slide safety.”

http://www.waterparks.org/news_detail.asp?itemId=361

They stipulate that any swimming pool with under 300 linear feet of pool wall must provide one means of access, and that means must be either a pool lift or a sloped entry. In addition, any pool that has over 300 linear feet of pool wall must provide two means of access, which can be any of the five designated means of access: pool lifts, sloped entries, transfer walls, transfer systems, or accessible pool stairs.

The criteria that each of these means of access must meet can be found in chapter 10, section 1009 of the revised ADA guidelines. Wading pools must have one means of entry and that must be a sloped entry. Spas, both in-ground and portable, also must have one means of entry, which can be either a lift, transfer wall, or transfer system. The specific requirements that swimming pools, wading pools and spas must meet can be found in chapter 2, section 242 of the revised ADA guidelines.

Run-out pools for waterslides are not covered by these new ADA regulations.

I think it's pretty sad how many flats not coasters that have been removed from the park just since I started going which was in 1987. I can think of at least 6 off the top of my head. Skylab, The Crypt, Der Spinning Keggers, Flight Commander, Flying Eagles, Oktoberfest Ferris Wheel. And the list goes on. I think Kings Island is lacking in the Flat Ride department.
