What if, 2004?

I was fortunate enough to actually ride X, and I wasn't impressed. It was too rough for me to enjoy it. Of course, I later found out I sat in the roughest seat (bask seat, on the outside). If only the line wasn't 3 hours, I would've given it a second try in another seat!

A 4D would be an awsome addition to the park. Unfortunately, since Arrow isn't in good shape right now, it's unlikely.

For those of you who rode X, was it opened all day? I've heard that it has a horrible track record and it's really common for it to be closed frequently.

It's X's frequent downtime, simply put, as to why PKI won't bother with an Arrow 4D, or generally other "prototype" coasters. After going through trying to get Flight of Fear up and running in 1996, then Son of Beast in 2000 (not to mention King Cobra for 18 seasons), I bet they want to stay out of prototype coasters and instead go with family rides and other proven ride types/coasters. Not to mention the mess Cedar Point has been going through with Top Thrill Dragster.

My next guess (and wish) for KI's next coaster: quality over quantity.

First off X is the best ride anyone could ride if you think it sucks then you are lying and probally have not ridden it. When I went there there were peeps waiting on wednesday when it is closed just hoping that they might let one ride go on. X was thee best roller coaster i have ridden. And i never once out of the three times riding it regret waiting in a three hour line cause its worth it. It isn't painful besides when you ride in the back. I thought it was awesome if you do get hurt try to forget about it and try thinking that you rode a one of a kind roller coaster. And if Pki built one we would get a heck load of guests and that ride would make me get a season pass every year.

I agree that a reliable 4D coaster would be an excellent idea, but, I've yet to see that a 4D can be reliable. I hate to keep harping on this subject that seems to keep coming up, but CP does not just go for quantity. They have many excellent coasters...1)Top Thrill Dragster (they will work the bugs out of this ride) 2) Millenium Force 3)Raptor 4)Mantis 5)Wicked Twister 6)Magnum XL200 7)Mean Streak 8)Gemini 9)Wild Cat 10)Cedar Creek Mine Ride. Now, let's see how many quality coasters PKI has...1)The Beast 2)Son of Beast 3)Face/Off 4)Flight of Fear 5)Vortex 6)Adventure Express. That's it, folks. There you have it, once and for all, CP is not only the leader in quality, but also quantity.

If you count Wildcat as a quality ride, then I'd say Top Gun is too. At least Top Gun was original and had nice theming when it opened. The Racer also paved the way for the modern coasters we have today. We also have three great thrill rides in Tomb Raider, Drop Zone, and Delirium. I'd say CP probably does have more quality coasters than PKI though.

If Top Gun was the last suspended coaster built, and there are 10 of them left, what was/is original about it?

Top Gun is a quality coaster. Just because it may not be as popular as it once was, does not mean to tear it out. It is a great beginner coaster for kids, it is a little rough, but not too bad, and a little fast, but not too fast. Every park needs a coaster like Top Gun.

SOB wasn't exactly a prototype. Sure, it was the first looping coaster in the "modern era," and it is the only 200+ foot woodie, but it doesn't really feature anything prototypical. It did used to break down a lot though. So, I guess you could add it to the list as well.

WELL HERE GOES,

I am new to your message board, and to your park.I did buy season passes for this year and next.I live 5 hours away (pittsburgh) and we decided to give PKI a try on 4th of july weekend and we loved it.been back twice since then.(6 days total)I think a really cool idea would be to put a suspended coaster(raptor, alpengeist) over the water behind the antique cars. Not the tallest or fastest but being over the water and dodging around the tops of trees over the lake would definatly make it one of the best if not the best inverted coasters.maybe a tunnel or two with the leg chopper feel to it.The park could really benefit from adding a major ride over in that area.It seems that part of the park is deserted. The fruit smoothie stand over there is always closed when I want one.Probably from lack of people traffic over there.

Welcome Jimmy Jamz, the area you are talking about, the antique cars I know have not been in use for at least the last couple of seasons, I also have thought that it would be a neat idea to have a coaster from one side of the walkway to the other, do something like they did to the Corkscrew at CP, where you could walk under it. And by the way, I did manage to catch the smoothie place open a couple of times this season, which is also the first I think that I've ever seen it open, traffic in this area is rather slow since the antique cars shut down. Does anyone know why this was closed? Also with the Rt 666 attraction at Fearfest are they going to use only the other cars or this also? seems as though if they only run one then it's going to be a rather slow ride with long lines, if they were to open up both sides it would go much faster.

Ive never been there for "FEARFEST" But with the passes who knows I might have to make the trip back over one more time this year.Yes I think that would definatly be a good idea having the track run over the walkway. Yeah I would see it open at like 2 in the afternoon and say to myself " i'm going to go back there after I eat some dinner and get one for desert" then go back at like 7 and it would be closed sad.gif oh well guess we will have to wait n see

coming back to the topic, i think pki wouldn't benefit from a 4D coaster...look at the terrain. SFMM is nearly flat and X sits on totally level land. sure, there is some level land for such a coaster, but i think pki should use the hills, creeks and valleys it has if they do build a new coaster.

i'll admit ive never even been to SFMM therefore i haven't ridden any of their coasters. i won't say that X is rough, but if arrow hasn't done something to make it's rides smoother, i would probably just ride it once for the fact that it's a one-of-a-kind coaster and not because it gives a nice comfy ride.

i'll stick to my guns and say that if pki does get a coaster in 2005 (im betting so) that they should either get a 250+ foot B&M hyper or (if they really had the huge bucks) a sweet intamin giga.

this way, it would be MUCH easier to incorporate the awesome terrain they have at the park (look at The Beast and Adventure Express).
