calakapepe
More of a statement but haha.I can't answer the question of: Why was King Cobra taken down?
BB1
It was torn down due to that the park found it necessary to do so. It was, to some, too "voracious" and was almost like SOB to a few. BB1, who knows too much, and greets often. Welcome to the KIC, land of BB memories and mass amounts of enthusiasts.
The Interpreter
No. The search will tell you. King Cobra was a prototype and was constructed with inferior Japanese steel. It was removed. The similar SkyRider in Canada operates to this day. And Shockwave at Kings Dominion, from the same maker, TOGO, also operates. Welcome to KIC!
JTW
I thought part of the reason was that TOGO closed shop in the USA and our ride was scrapped in order to provide some parts for the others.
The Interpreter
The ride was offered for sale, but only overseas. Obviously, this is consistent with some versions of why and not others. Also, the ride was repainted shortly before its removal. Terp, wording things with care.
BlondyRidesOn
The King Cobra ran into problems when the Japanese company, TOGO, closed its American offices, making it difficult for (Paramount's) Kings Island to purchase replacement parts for the ride. The ride was dismantled around when the park opened for the 2002 season. The track for the ride is still located in the ride graveyard, behind where Son of Beast sat. The trains for the ride were shipped to Kings Dominion for Shockwave, since there was no hope for the ride being sold.
