ohiocolts
After meeting my dad for dinner in Mason, we decided to drive by Kings Island and take a few pictures of Banshee and The Bat. I was able to borrow my dad's camera he never uses. We then into the parking lot for Great Wolf Lodge. A good idea would be going to the KIC Holiday party at Great Wolf Lodge on December 6th-7th. Find more details in the KIC Meetups section. Here is Flight Deck one last time with it's old paint job.

ohiocolts
I don't think so, it just looks like spotty black spots or something.
fanofFirehawk
So is the track to be orange to match the original ride? Because that is what I would prefer.

malem
Thanks for the photos! It's interesting to see Banshee's emerging effect on the skyline from multiple angles. Invertigo is complementing it well. It will be nice to get an overhead perspective at the December meetup, from one of the balconies at GWL.

thoe124
Isn't flight deck a clone of Vortex at Canada's Wonderland? Or vice versa?

WailsLikeABanshee
Isn't flight deck a clone of Vortex at Canada's Wonderland? Or vice versa? They do have matching track layouts, height and speed being the main differences. (Not counting the fact that they're in two different countries.) Executioner822
flight deck and Vortex are complete clones down to the last detail speed and height too. nice pics! the best ive seen from outside of the park. the zero g roll looks great.
The Interpreter
flight deck and Vortex are complete clones down to the last detail speed and height too. nice pics! the best ive seen from outside of the park. the zero g roll looks great. They are not complete clones. The coasters vary. See rcdb.com for just some of the variations. Canada's is: 9 feet longer. 13 feet taller 4 MPH faster 16 seconds shorter.

The Interpreter
As long as we are at it, the layouts also vary.
Executioner822
off topic: ive been looking through rcdb.com now and while some of the info is right, some of it is also wrong. it says afterburn at carowinds is 113ft tall and its actually 144ft tall. so now i dont really believe that site 100% either. and if anyone wants to 2nd guess that, here's this... one of the few sites to have the specs right. http://themeparks.about.com/od/coasterridereviews/ss/Carowinds-Roller-Coasters.htm

RollerNut
Afterburn was originally advertised as being 113 feet tall witb a 125 feet drop, they changed their tune when Nighthawk was added. The Skytower was advertised as 340 feet for over 35 years, around 2011 they changed it to 262 feet. Also, Afterburn has been clocked doing 65 mph not the 62 mph that is advertised. Cyclone is 3' taller than than Vortex but goes 41 mph and Vortex does 50 mph. Also Thunder Road is 2' taller than Vortex but does 58 mph. Hurler does 50 mph with a 83' tall. The height could be total elevation change, drop or distance from footing to top of lift.
Executioner822
so pretty much carowinds doesnt really know how tall or fast their rides are anymore?
RollerNut
Skytower is 262 feet but with the flagpole makes it 340 feet. As far as Afterburn goes, they didnt want it upstaged by a relocated coaster(Nighthawk), story I heard is the lift is 113 from the station level to the crest but since the station is elevated off the ground and on a hill, the actual height of the lift is 144 feet. Cobra is advertised as 125 feet but other boomerangs (including it when it was at Geauga Lake) are 117 feet.

jandyb79
Very lovely. Thanks so much for posting. In the one forth from the bottom, it that the beginning of the paint job? If you are referring to the red under the grey, then that is the original track color showing through the grey paint chipping.
Tanna
Thanks! When I first heard the charcoal/orange theme for The Bat, I thought it would look strange compared to the jewel tones of the other rides in that area, but it really just emphasizes the tones more, doesn't it?

I thought the same thing at first. After seeing it as it is now last weekend, I think the colors will actually look really cool together. I think it will make the jewel tones pop more.
