bkroz
In 2013, Knott's Berry Farm completely renovated their Ghost Town area, built a new vintage Boardwalk area with three new rides, and completely refurbished the Timber Mountain Log Ride (the ride that inspired Splash Mountain) with new lighting, animatronic figures, music, sounds, etc. from Garner Holt Productions. 2014 is more of the same - the groovy Calico Mine Ride will get the same treatment as the Log Ride with new sounds, lights, 50 new animatronic figures, new effects, etc. and the park's Camp Snoopy will be entirely refurbished and rebuilt with new rides and its theme returned to a High Sierra camp (with Snoopy still included). Wow, Knott's Berry Farm in California is probably seeing the most improvement of all Cedar Fair parks with Ouimet on board. He did say from the start that coming from Disneyland, he recognized the incredible potential in Knott's. Now we see that he's actually going to bring that to life. This is also on-par with the nostalgic changes at Kings Dominion and even Kings Island. This is the beginning of what we all expected from Ouimet. Think about the parks in 2014 - new fountains, water shows, new dark ride, refurbished classic dark rides, themed areas returning, executive chefs, new food options. It's happening, people! http://www.westcoaster.net/community/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=6711
Ride On_17
That's awesome. Just another reason why I love Ouimet so far. Cedar Fair is changing focus, and I'm happy with the direction it's going
Tanna
I agree, Ride On, I'm excited to see what direction the park goes. It all just seemed to take off at once, didn't it?
tjpavlik
A new change, glasses now permitted on rides with a retainer string.
CoastersRZ
What is your source for this new change with the glasses?
westcoaster
Incredible, additions plus they will make camp snoopy incredible, more in tune like Kings Island. Hopefully KI could add a 2nd dark ride keep one shootem up and a nice slow relaxing dark ride addition. Knotts and all the Cedar Fair parks seem to be doing incredible strides in rides, renovations, additions. Good for knotts being so close to disneyland.
tjpavlik
Yesterday I wore my glasses on Silver Bullet, Xcelerator, Boomergang, Sierra Sidewinder, Montezooma's Revenge and the Coaster Rider and was told (and checked to make sure I had a string) by every ride attendant who came by. I didn't have time to check with management but it would seem if every ride attendant said and did the same thing a policy change has been made.
The Interpreter
IF this is a formal change, I will go back to Knott's. I hope it is.
Ride On_17
Wait, so before did Knotts not let anyone wearing glasses ride, even if they were wearing a strap with them?
homestar92
Wait, so before did Knotts not let anyone wearing glasses ride, even if they were wearing a strap with them? Indeed they did Knott.
Ride On_17
That's strange. Well, at least they've changed that.
The Interpreter
Maybe. Application of the policy was sometimes rigid, sometimes hit or miss.

TTD-120-420
Matt Ouimet said something interesting during his speech at IAAPA this week. He said when he first became CEO he wanted to change Knott's name. He didn't like it being known as "The Farm," but through focus groups found out that people had a very emotional attachment to the name. It doesn't have anything to do with their new park improvements; I just thought it was interesting and didn't know of any other Knott topics to post in.
TombRaiderFTW
So basically, they told him his idea was Knotty?
jcgoble3
Evidence that Ouimet does listen to guests. Now if we can just get him to listen to our need to have the parking lot repaved... jcgoble3, cross-threading
Platinum Bass
Re: glasses During my June 2012 visit to Knott's, we specifically asked two different staff members about their glasses policy. Both told us that they were not permitted at all on Pony Express and Rip Tide (top spin), but secured glasses were permitted on all other attractions. Ride ops were then consistent with that throughout the park.
The Interpreter
And yet in the past there have been days there when no coaster's ops allowed patrons with glasses to ride, regardless of how secured.
westcoaster
Loving the family fun Knotts has been adding and will add in 2014, good for them, I think Snoopy land at Kings Island could add rides, and bring back favorites too.... More themed, and more fun for everyone. Love this in the orange county article: http://www.ocbj.com/news/2014/jan/14/knotts-add-three-kids-rides/ With pictures.
