The Interpreter Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 aka Big Droppy Thing at NJFTP: Opens Memorial Day Weekend Concept art is wrong in so many ways (sigh): http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/construction-wraps-zumanjaro-drop-doom-flags-article-1.1742794 7 Quote
upstop Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 "Yikes!" (jumping out of fear) "Big Droppy Thing number 1, looks too intense for me!" 7 Quote
TheBEASTunchained Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Zumanjaro (Big Droppy Thing) will be an interesting ride, to say the least. In my opinion, this ride has made Kingda Ka less of a photogenic coaster and more of a "What in the world is that?" coaster. ....On a somewhat related note..... I see the ride experience on this ride being very, very similar to that of Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom at SFMM. 3 Quote
Voicetek Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 The article stated that the ride was "next to" Kingda Ka, but judging from the pictures, it looks like it's right underneath to me. Quote

Spectrum91 Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Concept art is wrong in so many ways (sigh): Pardon this piece, which solely signifies the attraction's extreme height, how is the concept art wrong? Quote
Captain Nemo Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Lex Luthor is by far the best drop ride I have ever been on, folks in the north east are in for an amazing experience. 3 Quote
TTD-120-420 Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Concept art is wrong in so many ways (sigh): Pardon this piece, which solely signifies the attraction's extreme height, how is the concept art wrong? I know one of the pictures has a Kingda Ka train going backwards. 4 Quote
The Interpreter Posted April 4, 2014 Author Posted April 4, 2014 The train apparently ascended the spiral drop having somehow already been over the camel hump! And the trains... 1 Quote
Spectrum91 Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I'm obviously confused or missing something here... Based off a real picture of the train, the concept art representation looks identical. And both the ascent and descent appear to twist in the proper direction. What am I missing? 2 Quote
The Interpreter Posted April 4, 2014 Author Posted April 4, 2014 Train goes across crest-o-Ka in concept art from left to right. Not right to left. In reality, the ascent hill is on the right side-- spiral drop is on the left--not the right. Concept art is backwards. 1 Quote
Ride On_17 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I'm agreeing with Spectrum91, the trains shown in the renderings are facing the correct direction (as in going right to left over the crest). I'm not sure if it's because some of you are looking on these pictures on small cell phone screens that you're thinking the train is facing the opposite way, but enlarged on my computer screen, all of the renderings show the trains correctly positioned. 3 Quote
Spectrum91 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 ^Yeah, as you can clearly see in this picture, the train is travelling the right direction - from right to left. 2 Quote
Gplez90 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 The train is facing the correct direction. If you have ever been to SFGAdv, you will note that Kinda Ka's trains do follow that same design. I see where Terp is coming from though, at first glance, it does appear that the trains are facing the opposite direction. Unless of course, Six Flags is continuing its latest trend of running coasters backwards lol. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 4 Quote
The Interpreter Posted April 5, 2014 Author Posted April 5, 2014 Well, then. I'm glad that's the case. It sure doesn't look like it on a phone..at least here. 2 Quote
Existential Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 They are shooting you upside down to the top of Ka? Quote
LoraX Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I doubt I would get my daughter on that ride. Big Droppy Thing looks awesome. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 Quote
elyk Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 The employees infront of the Golden Kingdom said that Zumanjaro may open towards the end of the season. Sounds like they're having some major problems. Quote
homestar92 Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 You know, I figure I should ask, because I've been wondering for a while... Where did the nickname of "Big Droppy Thing" come from? 1 Quote

And that'll presumably keep Kingda Ka down, too, right? Yeesh! Who could've foreseen that clipping a record-shattering Intamin ride onto a record-shattering Intamin ride in New Jersey would lead to downtime? 7 Quote

Ride On_17 Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I really hope both Zumanjaro and Kingda Ka are both opened by mid July. I've been looking forward to riding both of those! Quote

I wouldn't call Kingda Ka record-shattering, really. 4 Quote
The Interpreter Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 a. Mr. Kinzel, then over at Maple Grove, called it worse than that. b. Big Droppy Thing came from the same place as other appellations, including New Jersey's Finest Theme Park, Maple Grove, BooFest... c. Mr. Jim Reid-Anderson has doubtless called that new steel coaster opening in Gurnee, Zumananjaro: Drop of Doom and some other things far worse than Big Droppy Thing. Betwixt weather and other factors, it's been a rough year for timely openings. I'm sure SeaWorld Entertainment would agree. Even existing attractions have had their problems, from Cedar Point to Kings Island to New Jersey's Finest Theme Park, which somehow seem incomplete without attractions ranging from Shake Rattle and Roll to Shoot the Rapids to Flight of Fear to Drop Tower to Kingda Ka. 2 Quote
Banshee Back VII Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 What's Mew Jersey's Finest Theme Park? 2 Quote
thegajone Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I think it has something to do with Pokemon, but I'm not entirely sure. 3 Quote

The Interpreter Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 New Jersey's Finest Theme Park is always spelled correctly here. Except when it's not. Thanks. Terp. Hello, Kitty. 1 Quote
Rustbucket Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Is this open yet? Another 15 feet from Drop of Doom. They need a little easier break than Drop of Doom on this. Eagerly waiting for this and Falcon's Fury. With a little luck, I will hit 10,000 on Drop Tower this year. I got a late start this year. 592 to go. 1 Quote

I visited on Monday night and Tuesday and there was absolutely no movement or testing of Zumanjaro. 1 Quote
