The park should be managing its Google+ profile to prevent Google users from entering such inaccurate data. 6 Quote

jcgoble3 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I clicked on "Suggest an edit" and changed it to open. The edit is now being reviewed by Google. However, it would be better if there was an option for "closed for the season". The only choices are "open" or "permanently closed". 9 Quote

There are other alternatives in use- Carowinds has a 'Closed today' listing. Kings Island and others just have that spot empty. If a business has its hours on its Google+ profile, then Google Maps (and a regular Google search) will display those hours, which is the source of Carowinds' "closed today" (and if you look a little closer at their hours, it seems that they still have Scarowinds hours listed). Otherwise, a business marked "open" just shows nothing, like Kings Island (which, according to the "suggest an edit" interface, is indeed marked as "open"). 1 Quote
MDMC01 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Funny, I didn't have this problem when I looked up directions to Kings Dominion on MapQuest... -MDMC, who uses Google Maps (mostly on his phone) but has an Mapquest account... 1 Quote
TombRaiderFTW Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 ^ Yeah, but you probably drove to Canada on the way there. FTW, who doesn't look for quests... Just concise directions on how to get where I'm going. 3 Quote

jsus Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 It's not just KD.. I forget if it was CP, KI, or what, but one of the other CFEC parks was marked "permanently closed" and I submitted an edit, which was approved shortly. Quote
Italian Job 2005 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Was this a malicious attempt? Or was Google Maps just confused with the end of the season and permanently closing a park? 1 Quote
jsus Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 It's not Google Maps getting confused. It's users submitting false data. Someone had to set it to "closed", otherwise it would just say not open today if it had no hours listed. 1 Quote
jsus Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I've been reminded that it was indeed Carowinds that previously was marked "Permanently Closed" this off-season. 1 Quote

jcgoble3 Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 This has finally been fixed. I don't know what took so long for the change to be reviewed, but it is no longer listed as "permanently closed". 2 Quote
