Four Children Injured on Carnival Ride

Recommended Posts

I DESPISE carnivals for many reasons. The rides never get tested, and even if you do they are they are in such crappy condition that I wouldn't go on them anyways. Are carnies even trained to operate rides?(Probally not.) More people get injured on carnival rides than they do on amusement park rides, I don't support carnivals in any way, and whenever I'm asked to go to a carnival I always reject in going. Now at amusement parks they do test runs before the park even opens. I feel safe at an amusement park because I know that the ride operators actually knows what they're doing and are paying attention to the ride, while at a carnival they push a button or turn a lever, and turn around and smoke.

According to the Ohio Department of Agriculture, you're wrong about some of that. Outside inspection is required yearly, and individual inspection schedules are expected to be followed as part of getting a yearly license.

It's a little lengthy, but covers the laws governing carnival ride operations.

For me, it's not so much the disassembling and reassembling.  It's more so that it isn't treated like an amusement park's off-season maintenance.  There, everything is stripped down, inspected, and repaired as necessary.

From my understanding, carnivals do not do that with their rides.  They just kinda tear them down and rebuild, hopefully with an inspection at the end.  Plus, the traveling nature of them makes it feel like a fly-by-night operation that isn't nearly as accountable to the communities they operate in.  They'll just set up shop somewhere else and, chances are, no one will know of an accident at the last location.
