Shops & Restaurants You Miss At Kings Island!

Recommended Posts

Is there any restaurants or shops that you miss at Kings Island that mad you sad when they were removed? For me I do indeed miss the 80s store on International Street as well as the Nickelodeon store on International Street as well. I do miss the Scooby-Doo store that I remember during the Paramount era on International Street as well as the other Hanna-Barbera themed shops. For food I miss the Skyline they had upfront in International Street, I know they still have a Skyline in Coney Mall but I still prefer eating inside the restaurant instead of just a stand. Is there any shops or restaurant that you miss at KI?

I miss the stores that got removed when Starbucks took over the big room of the Swiss building on International Street. Mostly because I would rather see anything that is not an oversized Starbucks go in that space. It would be awesome to see a real indoor sit-down restaurant go in there, but the likelihood that the park moves Starbucks to a smaller location is super low. All that indoor dining space is currently being wasted on a third-party vendor that sells drinks that fit in one hand. I'd hesitate to make it another store since the Emporium is right there and all of the stores seem to sell the same products now.

If my memory serves me right when the park opened in 1972 the shops on International Street sold items from different countries similar to the shops at World Showcase at Epcot.  They played international themed music as well in the area.  I miss not having more authentic international street stores and wish they would come back in come capacity.  Grand Carnivale would be a great time to test market it.  Those were the days when international street stores were open an hour before the rides opened and an hour after the fireworks stopped.

I might be wrong on this, but I think pizza has always been in The Italian Building, Fudge/Saltwater Taffy in The Spanish Building, a Patisserie in The French Building, a sausage had and some sort of bigger eaterie in The German Building, and the Rainbo Bakerie in The Swiss Building.

I don't remember much about the merch from the early years besides the glass blower who actually made his wares in front of you, the character and fruit sippers, and going out to the car to eat because we were poor :).

I was too young to remember it myself, but my mother remembers taking me and my brother into the Spanish building, which is now Sweet Spot, and seeing the candles. I assume they were the hand dipped and carved candles. I was too young to remember, but I was a 2000s kid born in the late 90s and the thought that the carved candles lasted that far into Paramount is interesting.

At the very least, I would like to see some of the shops on International Street take on more international names that fit their architecture.

I would love to see any of the shops from the first couple years Kings Island was open.  I was actually there, but was too little to remember.  There seems to be virtually no pictures out there from the inside of the shops back then.
