KIBeast
Yes, I rode the Bavarian Beetle. It was my favorite when I was really young. Of course, that was before The Beast, Vortex, etc. It was a very fun coaster. It went through a helix that seemed to last forever. I heard the problem with it was it was valleying in one certain spot when it rained. Don't know if it was true or not.

Gordon Bombay
Where exactly was the coaster located originally? Anyone know what happened to it? RCDB says it was never moved from PKI so I'm guessing they tore it down for good.
CPMac
Bavarian Beetle opened with Kings Island in 72. It was originally the Galaxy from Coney Island. It was in Oktoberfest about where the Festhaus sits now. In that row were the coaster, the Rotor, Bayern Kurve, and around the corner was the Skylift, all moved from Coney, too. I would imagine it was removed because it was old. The Galaxy probably wasn't cutting it with the theme park crowd, and new attractions like the Screamin Demon, Festhaus, etc. came along to take it's place. It's hard to find a Galaxy anymore, if your aching to ride one. More common on the fair/portable ride circuit these days is the Zyklon. Indiana Beach still runs a Galaxy. Gordon Bombay
The Pepsi Python at Coney Island now is quite similar to a Zyklon.
Hank
I have been on this at KI (no P yet) in 1973. It was on the slow side and not unlike the Wildcat ride at CP. The Wildcat seemed faster. Also, the BB was a slow loading ride, as is the Wildcat.

tubaman
Hay the Wild Cat at CP is Da Boom. I'm gonna try to translate what I think this means "Hello everyone. The Wild Cat at Cedar Point (owned by Cedar Fair), is a really fun, enjoyable coaster."
Ups and Downs
The Bavarian Beetle was a fun ride when the park first opened. Anyone remember Gulliver's Rub a Dub?

Gulliversrubadub
The Bavarian Beetle was a fun ride when the park first opened. Anyone remember Gulliver's Rub a Dub? ONE OF MY MOST FAVORITE RIDES! I MISS ALL THE OLD RIDES AT KI.

Vortex
So what do you think is better Old Kings Island or todays Paramounts Kings Island? I would have to pick Old Kings Island. With better themes and alot more trees and flowers how can you go wrong.
CoastersRZ
It depends. While some of the themes were better and their were more classic flats, look at all the awesome rides that have moved in in the last couple of years. Delirium, Flight of Fear, Drop Zone to name some of the better ones, IMO.
Scooter4Ever
A lot of the rides in "old" King's Island were just glorified carnival rides. I think today's KI is much better.
Ups and Downs
You can't compare the 1970's and 1980's at Kings Island to today. It's was a different era, much like sports was back then. Today's athletes are bigger and stronger than they were 15-20 years ago, and they're arguably better. But you still miss the players you saw back then. It's the same with amusement park rides. While Italian Job is awesome, I still miss Bavarian Beetle, Bayern Curve, the Tumblebug and even the Skyride.
