Holiday World

No, Son of Beast DOES not have the steepest drop on a wooden roller coaster. According to RCDB, the Coney Island Cyclone has a 58.7 degree drop, which I believe is the record holder at this time. RCDB Cyclone Fact sheet

The second drop on Son of Beast is at a 43.3 degree angle.

I thought the Son of Beast has the longest drop on any wooden coaster. I could be wrong.

Just looking at the pics makes me drool at the mouth! Hopefully, we will be able to make a trip down to HW next summer (crosses fingers).

Sob has a max vertical angle of 55 degrees according to RCDB, the steepest drop of any wooden coaster in the world. I also remember reading somewhere that it has the steepest 2nd drop of any wooden coaster.

Son of Beast has the two tallest drops, not the steepest.

(214' and 164')

The Coney Island Cyclone is considered a wooden coaster and will be no different than what The Voyage will be. It is a steel support structure supporting a wooden roller coaster. (Kind of the opposite of Gemini, Cedar Creek Mine Ride and Adventure Express which are wood supporting steel coaster track).

HW is a family park their adding this because they can also add something for everyone. The 4 other rides. Every target group is pretty much getting something. PKI isnt doing this because their not expanding into a new area. Holiday World is adding a whole new section to the park. They beat one of SOB's records so far, the steepest drop of any wood coaster.

Whether or not they beat any of PKI's records, I have no doubts that this new ride will completely blow anything PKI offers away......just as the Raven and Legend do. However, you did hit one thing right on the dot. Holiday World is EXPANDING into a new area. PKI seems to have forgotten that concept. Sigh.

- Todd, very glad to see Holiday World taking on such an ambitious project!

The first drop is still the tallest, however the second drop no longer holds the title. That was beaten by Colossos (196 feet) several years back. Also, as for the debate about steepness.....I don't think PKI ever touted steepness as a record for Son of Beast. Besides, Hades also beat that record this year with a 65 degree first drop! I actually just got back from the Dells, HOLY COW what a ride that is!

- Todd, who has a new #1 wood coaster with Hades

Son of Beast only had the two tallest hills for one year. Colossos was built in 2001. It has a 196' first hill.

Oh rock on! My favorite holiday which is ThanksGiving is finally gonna be a themed area at Holiday World I gotta check it out next year.

I agree triple g! I am definitely going to have to visit Holiday World next year.

"Son of Beast only had the two tallest hills for one year. Colossos was built in 2001. It has a 196' first hill. "

Nope, SOB still holds the record. Colossos does not top it.

SOB = 218' tall, 214' drop

Colossos = 196' 10" tall

"Holiday World is EXPANDING into a new area. PKI seems to have forgotten that concept. Sigh."

Lest we forget that SOB, Taz Typhoon, Face/Off, Runaway Reptar all were built on unused portions of land at PKI.
