bdboy007 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 What is going on in the campgrounds, are the still going to have camping or are they extending the park, that is alot of room for a large coaster Quote
Reclaimer Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 It's a hotel The new campground as well as the hotel should be open for the 2006 season, last time I checked. Quote
CoastersRZ Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 I thought that the Great Wolf Lodge was planning on opening in Late 2006. Quote
Captain Nemo Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 If you see the area now, the trees are flatened and the ground is to. Quote
Reclaimer Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 I thought that the Great Wolf Lodge was planning on opening in Late 2006. Yeah, I may be wrong when I say open for next season...I'm just pulling that information from my head based on previous knowledge, and sometimes things get a little mixed up and fuzzy up in the ol' noggin. Quote
Gulliversrubadub Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Great Wolf Lodge is supposed to have it open in 2006. Doesn't mean it will due to weather, shipment of materials, etc. It will be a great addition to the places to stay close to PKI. Quote
CoastersRZ Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 According to the press release, it is slated for a late 2006 debut. Probably right in time for either Fear Fest or Winterfest next fall. Which, as some rumors have stated is one of the reasons Winterfest is returning, to encourage guests to stay in the resort during the month of December. Quote
Vortex Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 I was at the park lastnight you you could see that some digging has been going on and the campground area is beind clearied of trees and old roads. Quote
bboyland Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Well I sent an email to pki about 2 weeks ago about the campground. As of yet no reply. I would like to buy my 2006 season pass but until I get a campground guarantee they well not get any cash from me. Quote

About 10-15 min from the park. their website is www.morganscanoe.com. You can also rent canoes. I am going there next weekend Quote
bdboy007 Posted August 5, 2005 Author Posted August 5, 2005 wonder what the admission to the indoor water park will be Quote
PKIVortex Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 ^ From what I understand, you must be a guest at the hotel to use the Waterpark. So they will not be an admission price just to go and use the Waterpark. You must stay at the hotel. Quote
jzarley Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 ^ From what I understand, you must be a guest at the hotel to use the Waterpark. So they will not be an admission price just to go and use the Waterpark. You must stay at the hotel. Yep, you're exactly right... Great Wolf's (and similar concepts) business model is based on using the indoor waterpark to drive occupancy (and length of stay) at the hotel. The waterpark is there to generate room revenue--not as a primary revenue producer itself. Joel Quote
CoastersRZ Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 You can think of the cost of admission the rate of a room for a night. But the rate at the hotel will be more than your average Holiday Inn or Econolodge, because of the indoor waterpark. Essentially, they rely on the waterpark to incrase the desirability and demand of the hotel to get people to pay higher prices for rooms. Quote
dionmarx Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 After 18 years of using the PKI Campground, staying at the others was not the same this year.. My kids do not want to go back next year if there is not a new campground at PKI.. As for the rest of our group, usually 50-60 season pass holders, in 2005 only 16 of us got S/P's , and only spent 5 days(normally 10) at the park this year.. Next year , if there is no C/G, then there will be no Paramount S/P's for our group.. We should have recieved a refund on our passes this year, but we gave it a try. Staying 12 miles away was not good.. I understand that a few other groups where not happy either... PKD has a real nice C/G, and so does Carowinds.. Someone in upper Mgmt has their head where the sun doesn't shine.. Rick Quote
dionmarx Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 As far as th GWL is concerned, I live within 1.5 hours of the one in T/C Mich. Rooms are terribly expensive, and over a certain amount of occupants, you pay extra to use the W/P.. They offer weekday specials, but it is far out my reach.. you can purchase a Family S/Pass for PKI for about the same as 1 night at GWL.. So what would you rather do?? They will have trouble filling the rooms most of the year.. Rick Quote
jzarley Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 If high ADR hotels couldn't regularly fill there would be no such things as Ritz Carlton, The Four Seasons, Hotel Sofitel, etc... Never underestimate the amount of money that people are willing to shell out to treat themselves (or more likely, their kids...) It's the reason why there's a need and a market for Sax and Nordstrom, as well as Wal-Mart and Target. Quote
dionmarx Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 You are right! But do you see a Ritz, or Hilton at PKI? I think more like Waikiki or Miami Beach.. I have no problem with the addition of the GWL to PKI, it will definitely be welcome, but what mgmt did was wrong... The PKI C/G was in bad repair and needed to be updated.. Tearing it down and starting over would not have been unrealistic, but they had to maintain it this year untill construction began, which is right now.. It could have been open.. Now look at our figures.. Instead of 50-60 people, with season passes, staying 10 days, you had less than 20 for 5days.. So if they count each 1st entrance to the park, that means at least 500, but this year less than 100... How many other groups, business or family outings lost out? Camping out we saw numerous $500K+ motorhomes park at the sites, and stay multiple days.. I'm sure that they dropped a bundle of cash there.. My point is that mgmt should have had a plan in place for the camping segment, instead they have alienated a large group of long time guests. Like I said before, no C/G for 2006, no S/Pass .. Might stop by for a day, on our way to Carowinds, or PKD... Rick Quote
Captain Picard Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Carowinds campground is closed so thats out too. Quote
FOF/Z 4-ever Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 There are other campgrounds around PKI and they are not that far. The one i mentioned before with Morgans Campgrounds is no more then 15 min away from the park. Its very nice and right on the Little Miami River and you can canoe w/ them too! So, just b/c KI no longer has a c/g does not mean anything. You look hard enough and u can find other c/g if not better! Quote
KIBeast Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 It's also been rumored that the campground may make a come back, but in a different location. Obviously, with the growing interest in these types of places to stay, it is a very smart move on their part. It gets people to stay there year round, which you cannot say that for the campground. Quote
Admiral Ackbar Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 It's also been rumored that the campground may make a come back, but in a different location. What about behind the Waterpark? The other day I saw a crane behind the waterpark, but on the Kings Island side of Western Row Road. I don't know if that is PKI property or what. But if it is - then the crane was back in an area of the park where there really is nothing. Now there might be support stuff back there - like power or water equipment - I don't know. That is just what I saw. Quote
Captain Picard Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 It would be nice if they get away from the road because of noise. Other park campgrounds are bad about noise too. PKD has a train that goes by it many times in the night and Cedar Point has ships going by that makes the ground shake. Quote
