Skippy
I just recently came across some original concept art for PKI's 2001 Nickelodeon Central addition at a website called alexsplace.com. The concept art was on display at the 2001 ACE event at PKI. Does anybody else have or know where I can get the rest of the concept art that was on display there? Here's the concept art I do have and intresting facts about them Here's an overview of Nick Central. From left to right: The Wild Thornberrys River Adventure, Rugrats Runaway Reptar, Green Slime Zone, and the Nick Theater. As you can see, Nickelodeon Central went through quite a few changes before looking as it does today. Such as in the The Wild Thornberrys River Adventure (original to be called The Wild Thornberrys Jungle Cruise) there was a Hippo in between the elephant and the commvee, and a girafe situated farther back in the ride. Another change, from what I can see, is that the Rugrats Runaway Reptar coaster was to originally be themed after Euroreptarland from The Rugrats Movie sequel, Rugrats in Paris. This theme was to extend over a large amount of land with the Krusty Krab Snack Shack to be part of it. Here's an overview of Rugrats Runaway Reptar, a family coaster themed after the famous Rugrats movie Runaway Reptar, as it originally was going to look like. Here, once again, we have another look for Rugrats Runaway Reptar (this one themed after the Rugrats movie Runaway Reptar). This one was to have more of a city park atmosphere (made apparent by the sidewalk, park bench, flowers, and skulpted trees), and to have Reptar on some crumbled city buildings (this idea was later resurrected and implemented in both the PGA and PC versions of the ride). In this version you would fly through a wrecked house where fog effects (misters?) would be put to use. On a final note, there was to be neat looking queue TVs themed to look like Reptar. Vortex
Wow looks like PKI cut the money on building Nick Central in 2001. I would like to know why they took some things out.
Gordon Bombay
Some things may have been to costly or jsut too unrealistic to build. Imagination is great though, and I love seeing conept art. Sometimes though the concept art builds up too much what a ride may be like (cough cough IJ cough cough)
King Bowser
Yeah I remember the concept art for the Wild Thornberrys Jungle Crusie the concept and the concept art was much better on paper than the real thing. It was going to have a slew of animals that you would come across during the ride like a group of monkeys, a hippo, a group of crocs , a lion, a giraffe, and last but not least a gaint snake in which made it to the actual ride. jzarley
The budgeting process always has a way of stealing a project's thunder... After the bean counters get a crack at it, hardly any project ends up as good as the designer's initial creative vision. Joel
