Outdoor Man
mark your calendars for the estimated release date of Tuesday, January 10, 2006. Amazon.com is reporting that the above date is the estimated release of the Brady Bunch, season 5..... which includes the infamous visit to our beloved park in what I believe is it's 2nd or 3rd year of operation. A LOT has changed.... good footage of the canoe ride that used to be where The Beast is. I hated the Brady Bunch, but I'll have to shell out the $30 or so to nab the season for the episode. I have tried to "google" and "Limewire" sites that may have that episode downloaded... but to no avail. Maybe this DVD will have cast commentary- though I know that most of the cast members really don't have much to do with the show at all. just an fyi. Gordon Bombay
Ahhh old school Kings Island....I remember dropping some of my first dope jams and poppin beats on the smurf ride......ahhh.....the good ol days. DID YOU KNOW.... That, the guy who played the dad on the Brady Bunch didnt like the way the camera looked on The Racer train and asked for a test ride of the train before anyone rode, when the train came back the camera had fallen off into the car, had the cast ridden it.....they couldve been dead. That wouldve really messed up Marsha's nose!
CoastersRZ
And even after they got the camera situation fixed, he still refused to ride any of the rides, including The Racer. Also, you have to laugh at the run through the park to get the plans to the front offices. They zigzag across the park so many times. Still, it is neat that PKI has been featured on two popular shows back in the 1970s.
Outdoor Man
stupid mike brady. Now, that would have been a story. Marsha's face take out by a camera. My question is Brady Bunch was a Paramount Television franchise. Did Paramount have some marketing agreements with the former owners way back when.... or did Paramount always have a stake in ownership before becoming the sole owners? Gordon Bombay
^Stupid Jan, always messing up the plans of the family, that screw up with the Yogi poster shouldve been the last straw! Jan out, cousin oliver in!
CoastersRZ
No, Paramount did not have a stake in the company back then (which at that time was still Taft Broadcasting). Most likely, the park and Taft worked out some sort of deal to lure The Brady Bunch to film an episode on location in the park. The actors affectionatly refered to the park as the "fishbowl" because of the hoard of people that showed up at the park to watch the filming. You can see several clips where there are walls of people held back by security guards and benches. It is mere coincidence that KI is now owned by Paramount, which just happened to be the same company that produced and distributed the Brady Bunch. Did Paramount have some marketing agreements with the former owners way back when.... or did Paramount always have a stake in ownership before becoming the sole owners? Unless Taft had some sort of association with Paramount at the time, I'd say no. Likely this just happened because KI was the new park and there was some buzz about it. And to whoever mentioned them zig-zagging accross the park -- did you notice how they'll be running in one part of the park, and then running on the opposite side... I guess they wanted every shot to look photogenic.
CoastersRZ
Yep. They jumped around a lot. But to most people not familiar with PKI, they probably couldn`t tell how randomly they made their way to the front of the park. The thing I find interesting about that show is how everything had a generic name. "The roller coaster" or "the main restaurant." Not once did they mention any of the rides by name, or even that they were at a park called Kings Island. Although you can see the old KI logo on the front of the logs on the Log Flume. Outdoor Man
the old addage the tv makes things appear larger than they really are..... well, the park must have seemed enormous since it took 5 people and 10 minutes in a dead sprint to get from one end to the other. Gordon Bombay
Taft Broadcasting produced both the Brady Bunch and Partridge Family, thats why both shows filmed episodes at Kings Island.

CoastersRZ
I don`t recall Taft producing those shows, but it would make sense to have them filmed at the park then.
BoddaH1994
Yep. They jumped around a lot. But to most people not familiar with PKI, they probably couldn`t tell the difference. My favorite part is how they are running around dodging the Tiques and Alice "accidentally" gets trapped on (the Monster?) without anyone checking her harnass. I think they filmed it at KI but staffed the ride ops from Stricker's Grove. (snap!)
Outdoor Man
Coasterz... i think actually they did mention the park's name; maybe not on signage.... but I think at the beginning of the episode they do mention the name of the park.... I'll tell you January 10th... but that's interesting that nothing else has names.... that much I do believe.
CoastersRZ
Actually, I believe that was on the now defunct Der Spinning Keggers, which resided next to the current T-Shirt shop, right past the funnel cake stand and the back side of Viking Fury (next to Bubba Gump`s). Outdoor Man
you are right... alice got stuck in the middle of the flat as it started spinning. I forgot about that ride... i can still see it in my head. Does this site have any pics of that vomet-inducing spin-demon?

WooferBearATL
And Yes, they did mention Kings Island by name. They mentioned the name when they were telling the family they were going on a trip. They also said located in Cincinnati, Ohio.

No he did not, he did not like to ride coasters, the actior not the charecter. If you remember they race while Mr. Brady is at the meeting, I remember seeing this epsiode with "pop up Brady" and it stated that he did not like riding rollercoasters. FOF/Z 4-ever
I wonder if PKI will ever consider another TV show to film there like how the Brady's did? I know Nick and Jessica did an episode there, but nothing like the Brady Bunch episode.

HomerJay
Hated the Brady Bunch, but I always loved that episode :-) I remember seeing them outside the LaRosa's Pizza (was it called it then) and wondering "where's The Vortex?" lol. Other TV shows that could film at PKI (these aren't necessarilly paramount shows, I just think it's be funny): 24: Jack Bauer must spend a day stopping a terrorist attack at PKI. To get info from a potential terrorist he exacts torture Jack Bauer style--make him ride the Son of Beast Lost: Another hatch on the island leads to...the lemon chill stand! CSI:PKI--The case of Tower Johnny THAT 70s SHOW--Would be a cool homage to "partridge" and "brady" My name is Earl: Earl decides to cross his line jumping transgressions off the list Prison Break: Michael Scoffield escapes Prison...but can he escape the line to Top Gun? I know Nick and Jessica did an episode there, but nothing like the Brady Bunch episode. There was actually a weekly series that was taped at the park and lasted only a short time. It was called "Down at Tripple Creek." It was a live action show with puppets as well. Most of the filming occured behind Columbia Palace (Wings). Tripple Creek was actually the little water feature running under a bridge by Swan Lake. LOL, it was a cheesy show but cute none the less. I have the pop up Brady on tape and you're right. Robert Reed would not ride the coaster. I'll have to watch it tonight and see if they mention the name of the park. I don't remember them calling it by name though.
Robert_Waring
I have the episode on videotape somewhere and I'm pretty sure they mention the name of the park and the city. I also have a film maker buddy of mine who took film of Kings Island in the late 70's. I'm working on getting it digitized so you can see it. I'll keep ya posted. DeLorean Rider
You guys got all of those random facts about the brady bunch episode from when Nick@Night used to do that "pop up video" thing where for about a month every show they aired, throughout the show, little tidbits about that episode would pop up and you could read them. I know cause saw the brady bunch KI episode and it every fun fact mentioned on this forum was on that episode. I specificly remember marsha being mad about not having a sports bra, and mike brady refusing to ride racer after the camera almost killed the kids. example: (yes this is not actually from the ki episode but it is from when they did this) the episode with KI was called "Cincinnati Kids" please correct me if im wrong but impretty sure thats right.
