CoastersRZ Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 Well, I don`t exactly see what you are refering to. However, that map does not appear to be too accurate in that area. Just look at the orientation of the American Heritage Music Hall (Paramount Theater) in relation to INternational Street. The entrnace is facing the fountain, not towards the Eiffel Tower. I don't remember it's exact location but i think it would occupy the current Delerium spot. WooferAtl could correct me on this. I used to have that map. if I'm not mistaken it is the 1983 map. Quote

jzarley Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 What's weird is that I cannot remember the elephant walk at all... Must have been something that my mom wouldn't let me ride <g>. One thing this does remind me of, however, is how good the theming was in the early years. The safari theme in that area of the park was very complete and encompassing, and there was a definite change in atmosphere when you moved into Oktoberfest, or Coney, or Rivertown... I miss that kind of theming integrity among the different areas of the park. Quote

I have been going to PKI since I was 3 I am 18 now and I don't really rember much of anything except that the big slide was over in Kiddie Land and they had some cool game where you drove some tanks and shot tennis balls. WooferBearATL Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Yeah - Each Area Had Uniforms Wild Animal Safari/Wild Animal Habitat - Tan Colored Shirts and Slacks or Shorts - Men and Women Uniforms the Same Oktoberfest: Green Shorts and Suspenders for Men that looked like Lederhosen Skirts that Looked like Trundles for the Women Coney Mall: Blue Shorts or Slacks for Both Men and Women - White Golf Shirts Rivertown: Jeans for Men with Checked Button Down Shirts Callico Dresses for Women Columbia Palace had seperate uniforms when there were servers. Hanna Barberra Land: Slacks or Shorts for Men that were Lime Green, Powder Blue or Bright Orange. Shirts were Puffy White Pull Overs with Rainbow Suspenders. Women Had Checked Skirts with Short Sleve Puffy Shirts Internaitional Street: Wide Variety of Uniforms Based upon the building that you were assigned to. Men had black slacks and white button down shirts with various vests. Women had various styles of skirts with white shirts and differing vests. Parking Lot: Black or Blue Shorts or Slacks with white golf shirts. Quote

Yes, the uniforms and music played a big part in the consistency of theming. Also, the visuals were designed then so that when you were in an area, that's all of the park you saw. There was a big change in atmosphere as you moved from one area to another. (I'd argue that the theming was more "Disney-like" back then than it is now...) While I think some individual rides have been very well themed since the advent of Paramount, I hate the way the individual areas have lost their identities. The closest we come to an immersive themed area is Action Zone...and its theme is "action", a pretty generic overall concept... Quote

Mikewhy Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 It is my understanding that the log flume currently called Wild Thornberries is not a part of Rivertown anymore, but is part of Nick Central (soon to be Nick Universe!) I also miss the great theming of the Kings Island of old... Quote
