Wouldn`t expect anything new?? Come on. The park is most likely planning something. Will the sale affect it? It could. Look at what happened to Thunder Road, which turned into Top Gun once Paramount bought the parks in `92.

As far as not adding anything. The park has only not added anything back in 1978, and that was because they were working on The Beast. In 1983 they did not add any new rides, but added the Festhaus.

I have heard roumers over and over agian about this subject. Well I think that it will be the 35th anaversery of pki. So that means that I think PKI will give us the biggest ride that we have ever seen but it will more than likely have no paramount theme and not have a paramount name or unless the new owners will buy out the tittle to the paramount names.

Well, I think the fact that it will be the park`s 35th anniversary has little to do with what they install. Look at the park`s 25th anniversary when they increased the size of WaterWorks and added the wavepool. I think they will definantely add a ride. I don`t necessarily think it will be the biggest thing they have ever added, but a ride nonetheless. And I think whoever buys Paramount Parks will likely buy the licensing agreement to use Paramoount and Viacom theming. One would be stupid to not want the Nickelodeon franchise (unless CBS wants an absurd amount for it).

Ok. A couple things here. First, why would PKI not add anything just because they added NU this year and IJST last year? The park clearly has stuff to work on/needs. Coney Mall could use a major new attraction in it and some sprucing up. Other than IJST which is almost in Rivertown, the last addition in CM was Flight of Fear ten years ago.

Secondly, I think the park is working on plans for next year. They will have a capital expenditures budget next year, new buyer or not. Not to mention that whoever is buying the parks is most likely entering final negotiations/bids right about now. Just because the parks are for sale does not mean that they will not have a capital expenditure budget.

Actually, Skylab, Zephyr and the new Dodgems were installed for the park`s 14th year (1986). Vortex was installed in 1987 the park`s 15th anniversary.

Yes, a few "intermediate" rides would do well in CM. A couple good spots for some flat rides would be the old Flight Commander spot. Also, the grassy area between The Racer, Adventure Express and Flight of Fear (with access off the Flight of Fear midway) could be a good location for a ride, and make the walk down to Flight of Fear more worth while, especially if the new ride would allow kids that were too short for FoF.

one would expect that they would make use of the long-neglected Flight Commander pad..... it's too "visible" of an area to be wasted on.... i don't even know what they have there, but it's not a marquee ride. Delerium would have been an interesting ride there.... swinging over both the midway and The Racer track.

If I was to guess, whatever is coming for 2007... has already been ordered. Design/Building takes a little while. My guess is 2007 is already spoken for. And if any season gets "jipped" at this point, it would be 2008.

They have the same old Eurobungee on the old Flight Commander spot. Yes, that spot would make an ideal spot for a new ride (the Flying Eagles would have been nice there, or even as you mentioned Delirium). That side of the midway is dead in through there, and the Action FX Theater is a far walk from The Vortex line. If any area is to get an expansion in 2007, I think it would be CM. Every other area has seen some sort of new attraction in the last five years (less Octoberfest of course).

flying eagles would have been great there. along with the fact that the pad sits a good 10-12 foot higher than the rest of the midway... would have made the flyers seem all the more "thrilling."

actually, wasn't Drop Zone originally slated to go there? I seems to be a very high profile spot that has had nothing for an incredible 10+ years.

Eurobungee...... that's probably a "pay-to-play" attraction? I bet that puts some $$$ in their pockets......

Drop Zone... there? Probably not

If they put another FC there it would be popular. most folks don't remember FC, or didn't live in Cincinnati when it was here

uh, someone can correct me on this, but SOB repairs are probably being funded by their lawsuit filed against the builders and may not have anything to do with day-to-day operations. But that's just my unqualified thinking.

Yeah you're probably right. Who built SOB? I thought I saw somewhere that paramount parks built it, but it could be wrong because I read it off the internet from some website.

Well, it was designed by Werner Stengel. The Roller Coaster Corporation of America was responsible for some things, including the initial building. But apparantly PKI did not like how things were going (the portion of structure toppling over after a guest of wind snapped a temporary brace) and took over construction.

I don`t ever recall what the outcome of the lawsuit was. But I highly doubt that any money from the lawsuit is funding this retracking effort.

Any lawsuit was likely settled before a court decision came down. The likely outcome was that the designer and construction team would work to resolve any issues either in whole or in part.

But I find it unlikely that this work would just now be taking place. I would have assumed any settlement would have occured a couple years ago and not just now. Seems a little bit long after the lawsuit was filed. But, it would make sense for the extended amount of downt time and extensive track and structural work that is going on with the ride.

Litigation can be stretched out for many years. Once suit is filed it can carry on indefinitely in fact. Once suit is filed (and it's usually the only reason suit is filed in civil matters) is to preserve any statutes.

I know, but I just find it odd that the park would have waited so long to do this much major work on the ride. They have done patches of retracking each winter since the ride opened. Seems kind of odd to be doing a whole bunch of the ride now.

Let`s get back to the topic of 2007 and leave the Son of Beast stuff to the other thread about that ride.

CoastersRZ raises a good point. Coney Mall definitely needs a facelift - I'd like to see them give it some of the look, colors, and style the main midway Coney Island had in the 1960s. There is some under-utilized space throughout the area, some new flats could go in, and the Dodgems could move back into the building where they once were (next to Scrambler).

I've heard rumors that Paramount has no plans for 2007 and they're counting on whoever the new owner is to buy something "off the shelf" although at one point when Maureen was taking the PKIC crew around to shoot photos she mentioned that they were going to do various improvements throughout the park in 07. Does this mean we'll get new paint and no new ride? No, not at all. But it does clearly mean that Paramount is doing business as usual.

  • 2 weeks later...

Quite honestly i don't remember in my history when a ride has been painted a new color at PKI, the last I can remember was TG getting a color change, but this was a long time ago, before I ever rode the ride, how about some ride like face off or Vortex getting some new colors, giving the park a new look. Even retheming a ride like Congo would be cool, just a change so that we are looking at somthing new for next year would be nice
