The Interpreter
Excuse me, but on two separate occasions, I have watched guests ask to use the bathroom, and be told that they must wait until the park opens. I know what I saw. And I know how VERY unhappy the guests were. They both waited til the park opened, used the bathroom, went straight to Guest Relations, got their parking money back and left the park! I doubt either EVER goes back. Perhaps the "potty policy" changed after their complaints. Perhaps not.
CoastersRZ
Metal Meteor, my mistake. I misunderstood, sorry for any confusion. What I was trying to say, as others have voiced is that the restrooms should be easily reachable before the gates open. But restrooms are available to those who ask for them. Just a slight inconvenience and a thing that will have to be ironed out in the coming months. Ok, I understand, I knew something was different with admissions this year. Didn`t know it was just that they were reporting to the same person as security. And yes, I know management has the final say on things. What I was referring to is that security is "on the front lines" and can make minor tweaks (recomendations if you will) that will improve the process under this new procedure. Personally, I think they should at least start screening people through the metal detectors earlier than they have been. Don`t let people into the park, but at least start the tedious process of checking people. Hopefully, things will flow smoother as the kinks get worked out. My one main beef is that when exiting the park, only the exit on the north side of the metal detectors is open, and it gets congested because it is not a very big exit. Perhaps the "potty policy" changed after their complaints. Perhaps not. We've been letting people use the bathroom before metal detection opens, for at least the past 2 seasons, even when we opened the gates at 9. I'm not saying that did or didn't happend, but I assure you, if you need to use the bathrooms, ask.
CoastersRZ
Yeah, I know when I was up at the park opening weekend, I saw people asking to use the bathroom at 9:35 and being permitted to do so. And it only makes sense that if you leave the line to go to the bathroom that you go to the end of the line.
Monroe
Why don't you all just try going to the park when it opens and stop complaning because they don't let you in before the time that they have stated it will open? All the rides will be there, and if you don't like waiting in lines then buy your own rides.
CoastersRZ
Wow. Well the reason people are complaining, is because in past years you could enter International Street at 9. Then the rides started at ten. They changed it this year to opening the gates to International Street at 10 (somedays a little bit before ten). It will take some time for guests to get used to this new procedure, and for the park to refine the entry procedures to make this new entry style go off smoother. The Interpreter
And the biggest problems with this have been with guests coming to the park from many hours away..on day trips. The park has not done a good job of letting guests know the park is no longer open before 10. Locals and season passholders are not the problem. It's the people coming from 2-4 hours away who are not amused. Those coming from further are usually also okay, as they have stayed the night before in a hotel. These daytrippers are a major source of park profit, as they buy one day tickets and often stay inside the park and buy food and stuff. Herding them into an entrance plaza for up to an hour before letting them in the park is just not a good thing, no matter how you try to pretty it up. Monroe
Am I the only one who can read because the park times of opperation are posted just about every where I look, PKI.com, mailers, not to mention the ticket stub. As for "the day trippers" well if they don't have the patience to wait untill the park opens then they will most likely be the sorce of a bigger issue in the park when they have to wait 30 min to get on there favoret ride. As for this web site and the other one, not one topic has been 100% positive about PKI and I think that is a shame. After all both web sites are "FAN WEB SITES". It seems to me that there are just a few people on both web sites that are true fans of PKI and the rest just don't know what they are talking about. If I worked for PKI I would do every thing I could to make sure there is no relation ship between PKI.com and the "FAN WEB SITES". Those who like to be negative need to look at what they have and enjoy it while you still have it. I did not have it like this when I was young, the park was half the size it is now and The Beast was still trees.
The Interpreter
I believe this site is a "complete guide" to Paramount's Kings Island. Both positive and negative. And parks like feedback, positive and negative, so long as it is constructive and in the appropriate forum. This is not just a fan site, where only positive, gushing praise is allowed in topic after topic. If you think this place is harsh (and it is not--the moderators here do a fantastic job), you should visit "fan sites" for places like some of the Six Flags parks, or even for Disney. Those who most love a place are often frequently among the first to see its problems, problems that, if corrected, can give a park opportunities to do what it can do best---amuse, delight and please its customers. And no, you aren't the only one that can read. But by far the vast majority of people who have gone to a park for many years standing do not get on a website to investigate before they go this year, and certainly if they do, they do not do it in great detail. They are going to have fun, not go on some sort of work trip where intense planning is a requirement. The park opening time on the calendar remains the same...what isn't is when International Street opens. And there are a lot more of those occasional visitors who spend a lot more money than of the so-called fans. They are entitled to a voice, even here. If some of the changes that have taken effect this year stay that way, PKI has the potential to become much more like Geauga Lake, where policies and changes made by Six Flags during its tenure there (not enough food stands, understaffing, too many rides with too small midways, price gouging, not enough training in customer service--just for a start) and a couple of really bad decisions by Cedar Fair since it bought it (like building the waterpark with non-union labor right in the middle of union country) have resulted in a virtually deserted park. Last year, virtually never was there a 30 minute wait for anything. This is not a fate that I, among many, want to see for a park we love so much...love so much we feel we can and should point out the problems. And for that I am NOT going to apologize, to you or anyone else. This site is not yours. It is not mine. If I am not welcome here, I will be told. And away I will go.... CoastersRZ
Very well put Interpreter! I coulden`t have summed it up better myself. Yes, this website is a fan website. And as you mentioned with fans of anything, they will notice its flaws, no matter how minute and comment on them, in hopes that they will be remedied. Outdoor Man
I'm still trying to get used to the fact that we need to go through metal detectors to get into an amusement park. Though to be honest, probably should have had them years ago. in 1996 a group of us "singles" went to the park. And some dumba## in our group brought a flippin handgun with him..... and showed us. Some people do some VERY dumba## stuff! I hate the idea of them... but they do serve a purpose.

EVERY ride was open. Every Food/Merchandise and Game was open. The park was fully staffed and EVERY associate did EVERYTHING to make EVERYONES day wonderful. No where did I hear an Associate Say That's how it is!
Jasper
i believe that the ticket booth changes will make the ticket lines better because whenever i went up there i had to wait like 5 minutes to get into the park. it was rediculous but at least it doesnt take them an hour to check like at some other parks. Cough Cough Cedar Point Cough Cough!
The Interpreter
I don't have a clue what you are talking about. At least last year, Cedar Point didn't even have metal detectors....
