If they weren't going to be able to insure the ride, they wouldn't be trying to fix it. It would have just been torn down.

And actually the report that came out could have been much worse. Sure, this accident is going to cost the park and their insurer a lot of money to settle but it could have been a lot more.

I know that there is a claim rep somewhere that gave a sigh of relief when the report came down.

And you are basing this on the SEPTEMBER report in the pdf's posted?

Exactly, not sure how many of you actually read the 25 page pdf report, but it was dated September 12, 2006. So while it is new information to the general public and us, it certainly is not new information to the Department of Agriculture or Kings Island. I mean, KI has had three months since that report to being modifying the ride. It would be interesting to see if there are any future releases from the state about the ride and the modifications that have been made to it.

Yes I did read the entire 25 page report, because:

1.) I am addicted to Kings Isalnd

2.) I was bored at work

3.) I love reading Engineering/State Reports and Documents

4.) I have no meaningful life outside of themeparks ;)

Anyways I would assume that the report took some time to compile so I am sure KI actually knew this information before the report was even published. Also since the findings in the report have been known by KI and CF for quite some time now, this is how they can say the ride will be opperating in 07. They know what they need to do, what they have done already to comply, and what they have left to do.

I still find this article to be interesting. It talks a little about how the state feels it should be fixed. Although in my view one line jumps out at me.

The park should add metal supports to help strengthen the structure and make it more resistant to stress, investigators said.

Now mind you I think this assumes the ride stays mostly the same keeping the loop and trains. I wonder if we will be seeing some steel supports or if the new trains will be enough.

^Good find. I guess we'll all know come opening day. It was also stated at Coasterbuzz, and I think it makes a lot of sense, that the change will probably be something fairly inexpensive as CF is trying to cut costs across the chain.

^Not that I am a legal guy or anything but the sale was done and over with when this event ever happened, I would imagine it is kindof like a car if the owner didn't know there was anything wrong the car or coaster (in viacoms case) then why should they be at fault. Just my three cents

Along the same lines. Look at profesional sports teams. If there is a player trade and one of the players received has a known prexisting injury and the other team does not inform his new team about said injury. Once discovered the new team can either seek monitary reimbursement or negotiate a new trade with the prior team. This is evident with the Reds and Nationals trade involving Gary Majeski and his arm.

Anyways it might be possible for something like this to happen between Cedar Fair and CBS. Monitary retributions for SoB not a ride to be named latter.

Just a thought, but also would be a legal headache, could also go after CBS for making structure changes without consulting the engineer that designed the structure.

You think they didn't know there was anything wrong? The report clearly says things that tell you they did.

By them removing a car from the trains tells you they knew there was a weight problem.

Plus all the structural repairs made to date-before the accident-that is the most darning of all

I'm basing it on the 25 page pdf report that I printed up and went over.

Now the real test to see if you are a PKI addict. Did you print the report in color so you could see the excelent pictures of the damage in true life or did you print in black in white to save your ink???

Well I personally converted my copy to Power Point so I can give an impromtu lecture on the various structural failures of SoB to any of the unsuspecting company that comes to the house this holiday seasson. Along with the popcicle stick mockups I have created of the broken bents, it is a pretty enjoyable presentation. Well about as enjoyable as an engineering presentation on failed roller coaster structures can be.

I stayed at great wolf lodge on the 18th and did the waterpark on the 18th and 19th. My friends and I ate at the food place next to the lazy river and I looked out the window and seen 4 workers working on the first hill of Son of Beast (right before the train would go down the hill). Looks like they are still working on it and it will probably be awhile until it's all finished.

What kind of work was being done on the first hill? Where they on the track on the support structure itself. Also please eloborate on how you know its going to be awhile before they are complete. Was part of the track missing or the structure? Just wanting some details.
