No Time To Scream, and Loving It

That caption is not the only error in the article.

At 1.3 miles long and 3 minutes, 40 seconds, The Beast once held the world's record for longest wooden roller coaster. It was the fastest until 2000, when Kings Island opened Son of Beast, which was closed for repairs after some passengers were injured in July.

Uh, last time I checked, The Beast was still the longest wooden coaster in the world, followed by Son of Beast and The Voyage. Also, The Beast had long since been eclipsed for its speed record. Heck, I even think that Mean Streak had beaten The Beast`s speed record. Not to mention that The Beast`s 7,359 feet of track equals a distance of 1.4 miles, while Son of Beast`s 7,032 feet of track equals the 1.3 that the author claims The Beast has.

Mean Streak was the tallest, fastest and steepest wooden roller coaster when it openedin 92. Also wicked twister could only wish to be good as it apears in the photo. LoL! I like how he found out that a wooden coaster's ride differs from the front to the back. This guy needs to work on his stats, other then that, good article.

Ahem. PhantomTheater, that "guy" who needs to work on "his" stats is named Julia.

Perhaps Julia is not the only one who needs to pay more attention to what she writes! smile.gif

And yes, I knew of the other errors when I posted the article (which is one of the reasons I posted it). There are still others to be pointed out in that piece.

That article illustrates something I have long thought about theme parks and coasters. The general public sees the whole subject as somewhat flippant, trivial and unimportant...unless something bad happens.

Other errors, you ask? What about this statement?!

...Wooden coasters don't go upside down or drop sharply....

This from the same woman that says Holiday World has the "best of wooden coasters." First of all, Son of Beast goes upside down. Or, at least, it did. So did wooden coasters over 100 years ago! Wooden coasters don't drop sharply? 76 degrees isn't a sharp drop??? Bull (so to speak! Ole! Ole!)

And there are yet more errors where those two came from...

Once again showing that the general public (non-enthusiasts) could care less about the various records or stats of coasters. That or our writer here is just a bad journalist wink.gif

Seriously the years of the coasters wars are grinding to a hault and we are going to see more rides like IJ:ST, Maverick, Voyage, and Renegade. Non are major record breakers, but all will or look to provide your average guest an extremely fun ride.

Or, as Homer said on last night's Simpsons...

"...ladies and gentlemen, honored guests, and out of town rollercoaster weirdos" biggrin.gif
