SOB Reapair Crew

Featured Replies

I am listening to CoasteRadio podcast #224 and they said there were people walking around and they were scarachters and one of the guys had a sign on his back that said, "Son of Beast Repair Crew." I just thought that was pretty funny.

Well, Maureen has said on numerous occasions that it WILL reopen next year.

Of course, her statements are only as good as the information she is given.

I'm not sure anyone KNOWS yet what will happen.

I wouldn't doubt that the State will put SOB thru alot of testing before they recertify the ride again.

Interpreter, if that turns out to be the case, I'll do a back flip off the lift hill! Wheeeeeeeeeee! laugh.gif

I have missed ridding Sonnie while at FearFest. Love a good cold night time ride on that monster. The numbness helps lessen the pain. laugh.gif

laugh.gif Yeah i do miss riding it some to. But you never know they could just get some wild idea to tear it down. Just kidding. I kinda hope it stays because it is one of those rides that you can just ride and get a good ole fashioned thrill out of it.

I got my 4 rides this season on it. laugh.gif I will definity give it a go next season if it does in fact reopen.

Son of Beast had other issues too. I know several people that ended up with bruises on their legs. I am one of them. Those bars need to be either widened or heavily padded. I had to go to the first aid for ice packs as my legs swelled so badly.

Any thoughts on that?

I like the design, but can't figure out why it is a painful ride. For me, it's back pain. Now, the repairs they have done to The Beast the past few weeks have really made it run like it used to. As steep and rough as beast is, I have no pain whatsoever on it. I don't get it either. I am still debating whether I will ever ride son again-unless they make it like The Beast, I probably won't.

Keep in mind that the lapbars they have on Son of Beast are actually its second set. They removed the original ones which were all steel on the side and replaced them in 2003 with new bars that had flat steel with some hard padding on the sides.

I'm glad I never experienced the first set of lap bars. They sound painful.

The first set of bars did not hurt as much to me. The new bars have less leg room for me.

I got on the Son of Beast the first year it was out so likely it was the first set that hurt me. Never bothered to attempt it again. When huge bruises on both of my legs kind of deterred me lol.

Might have to check it out again next year if it opens.

Actually, the new bars have MORE room. It's the floor that was raised, and the tilt of the seats, both to ensure that the rider is properly positioned under the lap bar and does not prematurely exit therefrom. . .

Keeps ya positioned until the the paramedics arrive and can take ya off the ride.

Unfortunately, there's some truth to those photos....
