Four Busch Gardens employees charged with embezzlement

Four Busch Gardens employees are charged with stealing from the park.

Investigators say they rented out company strollers to visitors with babies, but kept the money for themselves. And that money really added up.

Busch Gardens is known for their thrilling coasters, but this story is about the kiddie rides.

The amount of money police say the suspects got away with will make you scream.

Investigators say 23-year old Evan Polach, 20-year old Christopher Bailey, 18-year old Brian Liley, and 21-year old Shaun Jarvis, worked at the park over the summer renting out baby strollers to visitors.

But investigators say, all the time, they were taking their boss for a ride.

"They were pocketing the cash and never making a mention of it," said Mike Spearman with James City County Police.

And what did he think motivated them?

"I think greed and the simplicity of it - how easy it was for them to accomplish this act," he said.

Police say it was so easy, the four made off with nearly $11,000 all together.

It was too much money to pull off the crime unnoticed, even at a business this big.

Investigators say Busch Gardens park security had watched their suspects for months.

"From video surveillance and cash register audit, they were able to tell this was going on," Spearman told us.

Because of the high dollar amount, this alledged crime is a felony. If convicted - the fun for these guys has come to a full and complete stop.

"So it would be punishable as grand larceny, which would be one to 20 years in the penitentiary," said Spearman.

Police say the park was the victim in this case.

They say visitors were not, since they were charged the proper amount for their stroller rental.

^Really. Do the right thing, dude. I guess they figured that no one would notice $11,000 gone in the grand scheme of things. I really can't explain why they allowed it to go so long other than to say who knows exactly how long they knew it was going on. Was it when they reached $5,000, $8,000? Once they did notice, they had to let it go on so that they would do it again and could catch them on tape to build a case against them.
