Kinda reminds me of the old "Rock around the Clock" show at KD. They had a live band backing them up as well. Both KI's and KD's Paramount theaters were built for major broadway style shows. They both have the fly space above the stage and big stage houses to store major set pieces out of sight when not in use. There was an article in a entertainment site that talks about Cedar Point's shows and how their show facilities were buildings that were converted to be used for entertainment purposes. These show facilities do not have the fly space or big stage houses to accomodate major set changes. They rely on the talent of the performers, musicians, and costumes to carry the shows. I think one of the best Broadway style shows that KD ever ran was the "Gotta Dance" show. That ran for 2 years. It had the most elaborate sets and costumes. The music and performers were excellent. There were a couple other shows that ran for 2 years as well. These shows were not cheap to produce and I would imagine it would cost over 1 million dollars to produce shows like this again. But, if you keep it for 2 years or rotate the show to another park, then I think the costs would even out. These shows are a wonderful way to expose the young ones to this type of entertainment without spending $50-$90 dollars a ticket for a kid that might act up and have to taken to the lobby. I hope Cedar Fair will bring back some of the grandeur of the Taft/KECO entertainment years. I know that for Kings Dominion, people came as much for the entertainment as for the rides. KD had an excellent reputation for live entertainment in this region. The park was truely a balanced experience between rides and shows/entertainment in the Taft/KECO years. It was a true family experience for Toddlers up to the grandparents. Cedar Fair are you listening? Paramount didn't and they took out 3 main show amphitheatres during their reign. Now most of the time it looks so bare. Also at international showplace on the sides there are the peach covered door screens. those were sent from the warehouse in S.C. last year i noticed they were ripped and dry rotting, how sad it was to see. Also in Nick at the stage when i was a performer there they had the stage, looks like now they took out all the seats and filled it in with concrete to make a level surface, another disappointment on my end. Bring back the shows in the nature they are meant to be, an awesome, talk-able event they use to be....... I'm so glad someone remembers the last of the "good ole days". I worked at Repeat The Beat my first year in Entertainment. All of the shows in the park were great that year...and sadly things have gone down more and more every year. It was nice having day shows and night shows. I remember filling International Showplace on a daily basis, back then. I'm hoping the changes for '07 bring it back to those days... I used to have a cassette with a live recording of "Retro". I wasn't in the show either (Usher). I'm sure it's long gone though. We must've crossed paths somewhere along the way. And tearing down the black metal framing from house of groove. But I have no idea where that went. Cool thing about the entertainment dept. And while I am wishing, I wish that CF would revamp SDATHC as "The Phantom Theater 2" with the original characters - and some new ones, plus greater special effects. Yeah. That would be cool. Dagget: "Is it slime time yet?" wow, random bored internet lookup of the day. Donnie the hair guy - this is Dave, the guy on the top right of the picture, your good ol crew cheif. My hair is a bit more in control now, hope all has been well with you. I still talk to random people from those years, but good times they were. It is kinda sad to see KI entertainment go the way of the do-do. Those were the best summers of my life, and I hope they bring it back to those days so other people can experiance what we did. Wow, memories. Viva la Slime Bowl! Wish I had more pictures from those last years at the slime bowl, I do have my "yearbook" from my first year. Tuskin Posted March 10, 2007 Share Posted March 10, 2007 i never really went to any shows, the only show i ever remember going to was way back when i was younger before paramount had bought ki and it was normal ki it was a laser light show over by where the phantom theater was and it had a bunch of smoke, light, and fog effects i dont remember what it was exactly but i thought it was sooooo coool! I agree KI was a good time to remember, from my start in rides way back in the 80s. Met a lot of friends back then and still have active relationships with a few of them. In the 90s in the entertainment dept. was also some of the best times I ever had. We had some doosey of parties I remember. Some all nighters. Still hung over from the night before but still putting on a smile for the audience, after the show feeling like you had to throw up.....LMFAOOOOOO. Good times I will never forget. I think about those days a lot and wonder how people are. I wish I still had a cast and crew t shirt to get the design from. I take my youngest son to the park many times a year now and have had no interest in seeing any of the shows more than once. When I first saw how the removed the seating from the Nick House and filled it level with concrete, it actually ruined my whole day. A girl who was an escort for the Nick meet & greet told me she didnt know when they changed it. She was too young when they had the live stage shows.
