Mysteries of Top Gun

Hey someone once told me about a bottom level to TG like beneath the loading station where there was some pretty cool props or something at one time. Anyone care to elaborate?

If you are talking about where the old queue line used to be, yes there is a level beneath it. You walked under the station and wrapped around some poles and there were some old navy flags or whatever you may call them. I have never heard of any props being under there though. It is really cool because you walk on like a steel grate and you can see through it and everything. I have always wondered why they closed it off.

There is no reason for them to have it open since the line is never what it used to be.

There were animatronics of people that looked like they were working on the ship, since the station is supposed to be somewhat like an aircraft carrier. The small box room kind of things that look like small concession stands with the doors closed are where these people used to be or still are.

There were never any animatronics under the station. Those closed windows were like storage cases for different kinds of missiles. There was also a computer room near the steps going up to the station, and across from that was a small area designed like the bridge of an aircraft carrier. There were small windows on it with simulated rain and working windshield wipers...this was about as close to animatronics as the ride theming got. The missiles cases also used to unload a ton of fog that spilled out into the station above, giving the train a cool effect as it left.

Where is the first picture in relation to normal queue. I know where the old queue starts but I have never seen that part.

The closest thing to a tunnel is the pump room for the fountain.

I think I have it figured out now, the entrance is here (The part where you turn right when approaching the station).

You would then go to that lower deck and through the queue. I assume there are a set of stairs towards the front of the station that lead up to the empty part that you can see when approaching the stairs up to the station. Oh and here's that white tank shown in your photos, just to help establish it's location

also it is also thought that paramount sucked at theming alot of stuff but it seems like they did a good job with the theming for top gun. i mean since they actually tried to set up that kind of stuff.

why do you think top gun isnt a very popular ride?

I rode it when it was new. For me, the best ride "experience" I've had at (P)KI.

If a queue line includes attractions that can be enjoyed, it must be accessible. That part wasn't....and so....

I rode it when it was brand new. I spent all weekend listing to Q102 to win park preview passes and finally I did! I went to the park, went right up to Top Gun, rode it and I was so upset with it! Total waste of a steel coaster if you ask me!

You simply MUST try the front seat.

On Top Gun at Kings Island, the front is where it's at!

I agree, the fron is a completely different ride than the other seats.

I rode that sucker in every seat to give it every chance in the world to grow on me. That coaster is just as bad as the mile long walk to get to it!

I like Top Gun, it may not be my favorite ride, but it is pretty fun. I either ride in 1-1 or 7-1.

For years, I let my friends drag me back to 7-1, when I knew the front was a far superior ride. So many years, I had forgotten just how superior it is. Top Gun in the front seat is awesome (to me). In 7-1, it's still good, but it really can't compare to the front...

I think they closed it because of the rust and corrotion and the cost of up keep. Plus the ride attendence (lines) were shorter. I can't say who I heard it from but if I rember right thats why. Its been a few years.

Plus the walk just to the ride is way, way too long. I've rode it a few times I think its not worth the walk and stairs for nothing big. A great view of the Lodge Hotel and when they were building the Son Of best.

Yeah I've gotta agree with you ^ above on this one. I'm not too impressed with Top Gun.. never have been.. never will be. But what I'm saying is like if they re-opened that bottom section the ride might get better because you've got a set stage for the action of the ride. Kindof like at Disney World, Star Tours. The ride itself sucks but the whole line leading up to it is amazing, so much going on. I love the line more than the actual ride.

I agree 100% They could re-open it just with some work and $$, maybe add things to the ride here and there, new paint job, shorten the walk (hint to anyone reading from KI) The Star Tours at Disney is cool !!!!!! Maybe I'l ride it this year more than once.
