It was great to see this video. It brought back lots of memories. If this were today, they'd find a way to fix that ride and we'd still have it. There was never anything like it again!

I'd love to track down an old commercial for The Bat.

They were awesome commercials and great spiel behind it.

if you go to the website it mentions at the beginning of that video, you can download the original video, which is of way greater quality. but still not that great. i really want a high quality video of The Bat, it would be sooooo neat.

Saw this over at Coasterbuzz and it gave me some fuzzy memories. Wish I could ride it again. It would be cool, but probably not cost-effective, to bring back The Bat trains on Top Gun and get rid of that useless theming.

Did anyone else see

in the related videos section? It's a video of Arrow Dynamics Marketing Director Jim Sheldon discussing a suspended coaster prototype in a clip from 1979. I find it very interesting that they have a corkscrew in it.

Whatever happened to the trains? I thought the design of those was awesome.......

and if they are still around, what are the chances of them being used on another coaster...maybe at KI?

I'd love to have another suspended coaster like top gun-just longer

im sure they were melted down, or scrapped. someone has sold a bat head from one of the cars on ebay. or tried to but the reserve hasnt been met. its gone, i wish it wasnt, but it sure is...

I have heard that the braking on The Bat is different from Top Gun. That would have had to have been fixed, not to mention that it appears they have been dismantled.

Yes, the brake set up was different on The Bat than on Arrow suspended coasters that followed it. On The Bat, the brake fins (and braked) were located below the trains, and not by the wheel assemblies. That was just one of The Bats design flaws that would lead to its demise.

The trains from The Bat were scrapped. However, there used to be an old chasis from one of The Bat cars sitting in a box outside of The Vortex station (and visible from the line). This only disappeared in the late `90s.

I remember seeing that..it was too cool. I only rode it twice before it was gone.

it has a striking similarity, but i dont think so. that ride was build in 1990. The Bat was gone after 1984, and someone would have noted that the cars were moved. plsu how would they have The Bat head off a original car...

opinion. If the 1984 version of The Bat were operating today same flaws, etc... WOuld it be worked with and fixed until corrected or would it still be scrapped?

I would say that it would be fixed.

I completely agree with you. A longer suspended coaster "like" The Bat would be historic (because the suspended coaster was brought to life at KI.) So a "bat" like coaster that looks and feels "bat" like would meet the high tech world of today and they could perform the solution that they needed back in 1984. The kinks that could not be taken care of twenty-six years ago would now be a snap!

But, where would they put this great coaster? Hhmmm, that's a trickie one. I know, how about the land that they own that has NOTHING on it?

Yes, I loved that bat and I miss it.

The thought that they just melted that cool design down just makes me sick. O.K I'm done, sorry.

Oh with The Bat, it's no question I'm right.

The Bat is my favorite coaster of all time.

You could strap me in there and I could absolutely live on the ride.

I thought I loved The Bat. I don't think I hold a candle to your love for it. You win! LOL!

No, all kidding aside I'm glad there is some people out there that loved that ride and miss it as much as I do.

Opinion. If The Bat were made today, there wouldn't be some of the flaws that it had. There were no Auto-Cad programs back then. Therefore, the track would have been banked to begin with. Not sure about the brakes though.

The track was banked in many portions.

That lead to more of the issues with the absorbers, not less.
