Today when i was at KI, 7/19 it took me 30 mintues to get through the metel detectors, why you may ask? because there were 8 open out of the numerous they have, so my question is why do thay have that large of a number of the detectors when a small number of them are open?

I've never seen them all open at once.. I was there on June 4th (BAFFD) and there were a little more than usual open. It only took me 1-2 minutes to get through.

I don't know about that, but I do know a Glock pistol dosn't have much more metal in it than a belt buckle, they are made of Composite Plastic.

All I was saying was that metal detectors at Carowinds is way more sensitive than PKI, not that you could get a gun in.

they also need extras incase some would break (and that does happen i'm sure). i always have to take my batteries (for the digital cam) out of my pockets cause those suckers always throw the detector off. once it took me about 5 minutes to figure out that i even had batteries and people behind me were ****ed..lol sorry if you were one of them :D

So you are saying that a higher crime rate influences the use of metal detectors? Then the crime rate in Charlotte would have nothing to do with Cincinnati since PKI now has detectors, or that Cincy's is higher and that is the reason they were installed.

Again, the crime rate in Charlotte has nothing to do with the installation of metal detectors. PKD has used detectors for over 5 years now in Richmond VA., and there are test detectors being installed in Disney. Probably the main reason PKI is now using them is because of the racial tension that gripped the city some time ago.

No. Think of what happened on September 11, 2001. That's the main reason PKI added metal detectors. Fear of terrorism, plain and simple.

Someone mentioned earlier that Carowinds detectors are more sensitive. Maybe because if their crime rate is higher they will be more alert about weapons & such entering the park. I go to Charlotte all the time and I think its more dangerous than Cincinnati... thats just me though.

Depending upon what has happened at each park determines how tight securtiy is.

Yea and they did catch someone trying to bring a knife in. However now there are guns that can get past medal dectors.

True, but with metal detectors, they're more likely to end up seaching your bag and finding it.

I still think it is overkill. I would like to know if there have been any incidents involving knives and guns at PKI. As far as terrorists go, it seems that they are more interested in destroying major government buildings or American Icons like Disney or something of that nature.

Yes there has been. A man tried to enter with a knife and was escorted off the property by the police. This happened a while ago. I have not heard of anyone else trying to enter with knives or guns. Guests are not alone in havin to walk though the metal detectors. Employees have to go though them too.

Actually, I should have clarified what I meant. Before the metal detectors were installed, how many gun/knife incidents have there been. And, I mean someone stabbed or shot or brandishing, not just carrying. A lot of people carry pocket knives with them. Not to say that the gentleman you were referring to was just carrying a pocket knife.

At PKD they had a shooting at BET day in 02 and 03 if I remember correctly,it was in the parking lot. PKD didn't want to have a BET day in 04 because of this but it was said that they was being discriminatory.

I am thinking something happened at PKI last year in the parking also, but I can't remeber.
