I have plans to visit the Park on Saturday. I'm driving from Chicago.

After reviewing the weather forecast there's a chance of a thunderstorm.

Does anyone know how much of the park closes during a rainstorm?

I dont want to cancel my trip, but..... Thanks in advance.

Of course, the rides wont be closed all day. Stormy days are usually good days to come, it scares most people away, and when it isn't storming that day, the park is empty.

KI's a little more lenient than most parks about rides being open in the rain. Unless the forecast looks really bad, I'd say it's worth going.

BUT...its a Saturday...and there may be a major attraction opening, and if this past Saturday was any indication you may get only 4-7 rides in all day!

But enjoy your day at the park!

Wow thats a long time between trips! You are definitely going to need a park map!

I know at CP when there is lightning, everything closes, including DT (and the Pirate Ride when it was operating).

I wonder with CF now owning the park if their qualifications for shutting rides down has now changed.

BTW, does anyone know if KI has their own weather equipment, or do they rely on local weather stations?

I think the park has their own weather equipment. I say this because the last two years i would always walk by the building behind First aid, and just inside one of the windows i could see computer moniters with radar on them. These screens always had the radar up.

Although I maybe wrong, i think the park uses an outside source for the radar.

It does really depend on the how bad the weather is, and it really depends on how bad the weather that is coming. That is the one thing that really pi$$es off guests at CP. They see the current weather as not too bad, but what they miss is the big storm that is 10 miles from the park (lightning can strike from as far away as 10 miles). A light, steady rain usually only shuts down the skyride and TTD. High winds can shut down TTD, Raptor, Skyride, and in terribly high winds: Magnum. (Magnum actually was stopped at the top of the second hill, I believe, it's opening year. Firetrucks from Cleveland and Toledo had to be called in to rescuse the passengers).

But on the other hand, who wants to get hit by any type of rain going at 120mph?
