Some pay as you ride waste of space? Do you agree?

 Okay, I hope I'm not offending anyone, if I do I apologize....however

I always thought the spot that the Zodiac and then Flight Commander occupied was valuable space. So why are there trampolines monopolizing this great space? (If they have moved anything, forgive me as I have not yet been to the park this season) As far as Sling Shot goes why are we expected to pay again when we just did that at the front gate? Days of Thunder is fun for kids (I guess) but everytime I walk past there the gas fumes are quite tedious not to mention the good deal of space that it takes up.

Again these are just questions I'm throwing out there,on this subject. If you do agree that is fine if you do not agree that's fine as well. I just want to know what you KI lovers think.

I agree with you; the trampolines seem like the most pointless pay attraction in the park. It seems to me that it's mostly kids whose parents pay for them to get on if there is even anybody on there at all. And then the old laser tag building next to it...............Has this thing been open in the past year; do they use it for Fearfest? Cause I have not seen it open in probably more than 2 years.

Those two and Days of Thunder, IMO, should be removed. If Slingshot was removed, there'd be no space there anyway but for a food stand. Plus it looks like it makes the most money as far as pay attraction go. Too bad no one has invented a higher capacity slingshot yet. I don't think Skyflier should go either; by now it's definately a park icon on the skyline.......and I'm sure it makes a good deal of money too.

The bottom line is (and when it comes to anything making money, the bottom line is the only one that counts) if it was not making money, it would not be around.

You always have a choice. Either you pay to enjoy/ try it out or you don't pay and move on to the next ride. It is that way with anything. Some people decide to pay for a drink, or some will quench their thirst a fountain.

I don't mind pay rides. Some I thouroughly enjoy, others I keep on walking.

No matter what, I am just glad that the park gives me the choice. If the ride was not there, the choice was already made for me.

It I recall, and this is going back almost 12 years, I beleive the base price of a Skycoaster (EXtreme Skyflyer) was well under a million dollars. Now, its 12 years later, surely in that case the ride has paid for itself a few times over. Therefore Skycoaster's take is mostly pure gravy now. (Well mostly as Skycoaster has stringent training and equipment regulations that would seem to assure the parent company a nice revenue stream). You can tell as most days they run a $10 special, and I have seen it go as low as $5, the thing is paid off so any money they can make on it is great. The lower prices also seem to acknowledge that the novelty has worn off. Skyflyer sits on prime real estate, about two more flat rides or a smallish coaster like a mouse could easliy fit there.

However, I don't see Skycoaster going anytime soon, because of the extra charge rides it appears to be the most extreme.

Days of Thunder on the other hand could be bulldozed today and I wouldn't care. Go-Karts have ongoing mainteance needs just like a car, and with the price of gas these days, and the fact the cars are idling most of the time even if they aren't in use. I wonder if this ride makes enough to justify its existence. Not only that but they have just about the dullest go-kart layout imagineable, and at one time they used to have way too many cars on the track at once, ensuring constant collisions of the cars.

Slingshot is the newest of the extra charge rides, and fetches the highest price ($25- often marked down to $15 and I have heard rumours of $10). It seems to have a consistent line when open, and benefts from the fact that it provides a genuine thrill, and has a relatively small footprint. However, its space space could just as easily house another flat or be a pathway to a ride or other expansion back where King Cobra used to sit. Getting rid of both the Go-Karts and Slingshot may provide a nice piece of land to work with. Again, slingshots footprint is so small that they could ahve the access to this newly reclaimed land be through where Days of Thunder is and retain the profitable Slingshot right where it is.

Launch Pad (trampolines) where Flight Commander used to sit can be classed as a crying shame. That is A++ Prime land in Coney Mall, up on a hillside, directly accross from the walkway towards Rivertown. This would a great spot for a high profile attraction, yet it is wasted on a seldom used overpriced trampoline attraction. Add to that the now disused Cinama 180 building (the lazer tag use was cool, but that fad died out). If I were in charge I would tear out everything from the Cinema 180 building up to and maybe even including the Skeeball building and redevelop this fourth of Coney Mall. Right now its tenants are a disused cinema 180, an underused trampoline attraction, a disued queue maze, a disused concession stand with a disused dining patio, and a butt ugly Skeeball building ever since its facade was ripped off a season or two ago. Again, I might reconsider and just dress up the Skeeball building, but the rest of it goes.

So in sumary the Go-Karts and trampoline attractions are "A waste of space" and go. I think I would hang onto Slignshot and Skyflyer if I were in charge.

I might be tempted to somehow move Slingshot and Skyflyer outside the park walls to create a Challenge Park as has been done at other Cedar Fair parks. That way these attractions would be open to all even if they didn't purchase an admission ticket to the park. Maybe add a reconfigured go-kart track, and mini golf to it.

The reason pay rides cost more after you paid to get in?

These rides are low capacity. Slingshot, two people at once. Skyflyer, six at once. If they didn't have some detriment to people riding, the lines would be multiple hours long every day. There needs to be some detriment to people wanting to ride these rides, and since pay-per-rides also bring in more money, they chose that. Plus, $5 for a ride on Skyflyer ain't bad by any means. One of my friends who travels the country going to parks (Clint Novak for those who know him) stands by his claim that the KI SkyFlyer is the best deal in any park for those kinds of rides.

The only pay as you play I think it is a waste of space is "Launch Pad". I also thought the Rock Climbing wall was silly. I actually like Sling Shot and Skyflier, and I think both are worth paying extra for. If your lucky you can do them for a little as $5.00. Not bad.

I could be wrong about this but I have heard before that the trampoline thing was actually leased out to someone else, meaning the park itself isn't in charge of it and they make money weather or not it is profitable so as long as the company that runs it feels it is worth it it's not going anywhere. Also I also have said numerous times before that a challenge park would be the best idea, right inbetween the left side of the park and great wolf lodge (maybe get rid of timberwolf).

the trampolines must go! coasterville is right. That piece of Coney Mall isn't being utilized to its fullest potential.

That is exactly what I am talking about. I think it's a great space too. I see kids in my neighborhood with their own trampolines, so why pay to jump on them at KI? That Is a prima spot. They could put in a great flat ride there.

As far as Days of Thunder......it's a good space and in my opinion being wasted (as I said, just my opinion). Skyflier has been there since 1995? (Someone correct me if I'm wrong).

They have offered good deals on Skyflier and slingshot. I have never been on slingshot so I don't have the experience that others on this website may have experienced.

Coney mall has two prime spots.....the place where Flight commander was and the old 180 theatre or laser tag.....whatever it's an eyesore. There is a lot of potential there, and I would like to see it come to life again!

Skyflyer is fun, I agree. I think it my have been the first pay as you ride in the park, but I'm not positve. You make a good point.

Oh, i totally agree on the $5 Skycoaster special, when they haul it out, thats the best Skycoaster deal around. I have seen them go as low as $5 twice, and both times, I was drawn like metal to a magnet.

Last year I dropped nearly $30 for the right to be on of a trio of flyers on a Skycoaster, of course that would be the 300' model in Kissimmme, FL. And we drug a Skycoaster newbie on to the thing, great times!

I think it's stupid you pay 45 bucks (if you don't have a pass) to get in, the idea being one price for the day instead of the old pay as you ride, then it should be free, I wouldn't ride it any way, that thing would freak me out, but I don't like the idea of one price admission then start charging you for rides in the park. I think if you're going to do that Cedar Point does it the best way. Have a separate park apart from the rest of the park where that kind of stuff is. Then you pay to get in that part, kind of like a water park.
