WWC Questions

Does anyone know why Tower 1 and its corresponding water element don't operate anymore? Also why don't they use the sprayer in the second tunnel anymore?

A small side question, does anyone have any pictures of Whitewater Canyon drained during off-season? I've always been interested in seeing all the pumping mechanisms and all the rapid-generators.

Thanks in advance!

I just took the train a couple of weeks ago when I was there and although Whitewater Canyon was not running, the water was filled - not drained. Sorry I can't help with photos, but I do believe that it is only drained at the end of the season. It would be interesting to see pictures like you describe.

I worked at wwc and the way the ride works is the water is pumped up to the top and then it just flows down hill. Every night when they turn off the pumps all of the water drains out of wwc because the ride is on a hill.

I work 5 years on WWC and no is at tower 1, they have Tv monitor at tower 2 to see all the boat at come by tower 1. when to monitor go out we would put someone at tower 1. The sprayer at tower 1 is a hose at move back and forth. The water pump looks like a big jet engine there are 4 of them they only used 3 at a time and keep one as back up. tower 2 is haunted.

I rode The Train several weeks ago, and White Water Canyon was closed down, and they were no water in the ride. Also the water drains when the e-stopped is pressed. So I would say it is drained every night. Also I thought the reservoir was that pond that is next to WWC, which is where the water comes from, with chlorine added to it.

The reservoir idea is pretty cool. Basically this feeds most (or all?) water rides a KI? Would this include BB?

I highly doubt it. BB water is chlorinated. I'm pretty sure WWC water is not chlorinated otherwise the water wouldn't be that murky green color.

The pond is the reservoir. I'm sorry if it sounded like I was saying the whole ride is.

You better believe that water has chemicals. No I'm not just talking about chlorine; I'm talking about: Motor oil, gasolene, antifreeze, freon, and countless other chemicals. You want to know why the water at WWC looks the way it does? It's because the reservoir is connected to the drainage system for the parking lot. When it rains, all of the water from the parking lot drains into White Water Canyon's reservoir. You can bet that that water is very chlorinated. Word of advice, best to keep your mouth CLOSED while you ride WWC.

And to be honest (I was wating for someone else to point out) very little of the parking lot drains anywhere at all. None of it drains into WWC. The water that drains into WWC is from the park itself.

Yeah, some years back, Paramount had a problem with cars floating in the parking lot (and some that didn't). Instead of fixing the problem, they put up signs that in certain areas you park at your own risk of the car being flooded. Somehow, I doubt seriously any court would uphold those signs. Especially given the parkee paid $10 for the high privilege of parking in a lot where the owner didn't even exercise ordinary care for the vehicles.

I think WWC is kind of a hidden treasure at KI. Its easy to miss (I went 14 years between rides!)...but it really is fun...nothing else like it at the park.

WWC is a true treasure. Other rapids rides don't compare just because of WWC's location. It's completely wooded. You feel like you're away from civilization back there. Even though the train runs by there every few minutes.

Haunted in what way, I wonder. It would be nice to get a backstory on that one.
