  2. Man what a beautiful flume this was. Nicely settled just below the tree line. I'm still mad I didn't ride this. Loved watching it though. I do think Diamondback and KCKC could've co-existed, however the layout would probably have been pretty different compared to how it is now. I also think that if Paramount decided to keep the flume instead, Cedar Fair would've more than likely just taken it out for DB if the flume was in bad shape like it was supposedly before Tomb Raider came in.
  3. Actually, it's even more easy than that. I don't know if this is true with the Flight of Fear at KD, but I've noticed that KI's has a giant evac platform at the very spot in the layout where Joker's Jinx stalled. The platform is connected to the midcourse catwalk via a small set of stairs, so if Flight of Fear stalled in that spot, all staff would half to do is flip the lights on, walk up to the evac platform, and manually release each restraint so guests could walk to the midcourse catwalk stairway and head down to the floor. Easy peasy.
  4. Ok, so after many rides on Timbers this weekend I can finally post in this thread lol. The ride is fantastic. I was incredibly impressed at how fast and how smoothly it rides through the course. Loved the floater pops, loved the twisting curves (that double-S curve is really fun), and loved the speed. I think the front is probably my favorite spot on the train, because you get launched over those hills like nobody's business, but the back is also amazing for the first and second drops. Also I found shed to be really cool. I kept finding more and more little things around that room. The amount of small details that went into theming the ride is pretty awesome. Very well done. I can't tell you guys how excited I am that KI FINALLY has a wood coaster like this. Modern, quick-paced, lots of airtime, lots of twists, and as of right now it might be my favorite GCI. Certainly the best woodie in the park (sorry Beast), and tied with Diamondback for the best overall coaster at the park.
  5. Yes it's new. Gone are the 3d claws and letters. They've been replaced with a more basic 2d printed graphic. Perhaps the old sign is getting a refresh, and they put a temporary sign in its place? Not sure.
  6. Hey guys! For anyone that is interested, I've just completed a very in-depth review of The Beast on my blog. Feel free to check it out here! The Beast REVIEW: Still the most radically unique wooden coaster to ever exist I'd love to here your thoughts!
  7. Thanks! =) I'm going to add some screenshots of the ride to the original post since the POV doesn't show everything. I'm a HUGE stickler for details. I didn't go as far as overlay a google maps image into the park, BUT I did use the google maps ruler tool as an aid to get the size of ride elements right, for example the rosebowl helix has a diameter of around 250 FEET! I had no idea it was that huge, and when building it I was like surely it's not THIS big, but sure enough when riding it in the sim it felt exactly like the real thing. I'm extremely visual, so I also like to really carefully look at many photos of the rides I replicate to make sure I get the shaping of curves and drops right. Photos also showed that the terrain the ride sat on was much more hilly than I thought it was, especially photos of the sight AFTER the ride was demo'ed. It just makes the project so much more rewarding in the end to spend time studying a ride to the nth degree, and it also helps me appreciate a ride's design even more. Quick plug. No Limits 2 is an absolutely AMAZING piece of software, with the comb tools being my favorite tools to use to ensure smooth curves that are achievable with 100% hand made track.
  8. Hey guys. I'm bumping this thread because I just made a Son of Beast recreation in No Limits 2, and I figured it would be worth sharing here. I always had a huge love of just the way the ride looked. It's gargantuan structure was truly awesome, so I couldn't help but try and replicate it myself. Let me know what you guys think! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDYsbSrJSJ4 EDIT: Here are some screenshots of the coaster!
  9. Have you guys seen Vekoma's new designs lately?? They look really REALLY good. I would love to see some mid-sized parks in the US pick up a Firestorm model for example. The track and trains all look great! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iS5fV4k9z_s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XqfJhBhyHQ And here's one of they're new gen steel coasters that have already opened. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1lQfF3IkTI
  10. Just gotta say while watching the webcams this morning. Has any GCI EVER had this kind of a line on opening day?? I mean I think it's kinda cool that stat wise it's pretty standard, and yet here at KI, people line up in droves to ride it. It looks just about as long as Diamondback's opening day line, and it's for a coaster half its size! Lol. One other thing, I wouldn't want to wait in a multi-hour line like that in the rain haha.
  11. POV is up!!! It looks fast, smooth, and packed with airtime! Cannot wait to ride this! https://www.facebook.com/visitkingsisland/videos/10155897099648368/?hc_ref=NEWSFEED Also, that's quite the shed teaser at the end! I love the audio warning!
  12. I may or may not have shared that video on my feed thinking it was the whole POV without actually watching the thing first lol. I'm too excited for this ride. XD
  13. Wow! The theming for this ride is coming close to Busch Gardens level! It looks great! I can tell you right now if Kinzel were still at the helm they would've just built the coaster and called it a day lol.
  14. My idea is to get rid of the big box but keep the portion of ride queue submerged in the ground, and build a WhiteWater West SuperFlume with a haunted river theme. Look at Dollywood's Daredevil Falls as an example of this ride type. Make it go through the woods between The Beast and Diamondback and finish it with a large drop (60-70 ft tall). The theme could tie into Mystic Timbers, say the flume was the transport system for lumber cut by Miami Valley Lumber Co. Will it happen? Probably not, but it's a fun dream. Oh yeah this is the MT thread. The shed looks good!
  15. It'll go faster when the wheels break in and there are people loaded in.
  16. I got so excited watching that video! Cannot wait to ride this at Coasterstock!!!
  17. Yep. Millennium Flyers use T-bars, so more freedom for your legs since they're not squished together like they would from a PTC lapbar.
  18. Ahh my favorite wooden coaster trains. Not only are they comfortable, but the single-row trailered cars track so much better than PTCs! Those of you that have never ridden a GCI are in for a real treat. It will probably be the smoothest traditional woodie you'll ever ride (at least in the first season). Did I mention how PUMPED I am to finally have a GCI at Kings Island?? I've been wanting one for years!
  19. Will Ferrell will be in the shed, telling us to get off the shed...
  20. GCI does what I call "floater pops". Hills that offer nothing more than strong floater, but you ride over them so quickly that it could give the illusion that it's ejector air when it's really not. Just REALLY fast paced floater hills.
  21. You can't deny though that curved drops sure do look great in a classy way.
  22. Excited to be going again this year! The Diamondback tour is what ultimately swayed me to get a ticket again as it wasn't offered last year. I love that ride and I can't wait to get some good video of it. Not to mention the Mystic Timbers ERT on both nights haha.
  23. Not riding KCKC when it was open. I was not a fan of water rides at the time, but I do remember loving to watch boats drop down the final drop. Curse you Paramount. Suppose KCKC was still at Kings Island. How cool would it have been to have Diamondback's first drop go under the flume? Same thing with King Cobra. The time that I started riding steel looping coasters was right around the time it got taken out. I think I got to 54 inches on it's last season. Although I'm not sure I would have enjoyed it with those steel trap looking restraints haha.
  24. ^I never said Colossos was SBNO. Never was. It's still operating (as far as I know LOL). I should've re-worded what I said. I could've sworn I read some interview or article awhile back that said Werner Stengel had the idea for pre-fab track after observing the structural problems of SOB during construction. EDIT: Weird, RCDB does say it's SBNO. I have no idea if that's actually true or not.
  25. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Intamin's pre-fab woodie technology came around as a direct result of Son of Beast's failure, and Heide Park's Colossos (which opened a year after SOB) was more or less an in-the-field test of the new track system to see if it was sound or not.
