My guess, is that they are preparing that ride to receive its new paint job. They can`t properly apply paint when it is cold outside, so the tarp is likely there to help keep a controlled environment. Additionally, look closely at the fence surrounding the ride. Notice that the top and bottom rail that were formerly orange have been painted (or primed) a gray color. Clearly the fence for that ride will be a new color come April.

Coney Island has posted ten images of the park covered in snow to their Facebook page. Check them out here: http://www.facebook.com/#/photo.php?pid=10604462&id=121898760525&fbid=415910830525 The last image shows a frozen Lake Como, looking back on the rides along the shore of Lake Como. There is also a picture of an empty Sunlite Pool with snow in it.

Hopefully, the park can reopen and be a success under the leadership of Merlin. Especially since the Starliner was saved from destruction after it was moved from Miracle Strip to Cypress Gardens, only to have Cypress close. Glad to see that Merlin is interested in buying properties like Cypress Gardens.

I don`t remember what the place I`m thinking about sold last year. I remember them having a sign out in the midway advertising the menu items. I seem to maybe recall that turkey legs were on the list, but honestly can`t remember what the menu was. Regardless, that food stand was open about as often as it was closed on my visits last year.

Only reason we waited that long for Firehawk was because it was a Saturday evening during October. And the park was moderately crowded. Need I say more?
-
Yeah. Although, I waited nearly an hour and a half for Firehawk this past October when I was at KI with my cousin. It broke down after we were in line about forty minutes, and we waited it out for fifteen minutes, it reopened, and then went down again. By the time we left line (it still hadn`t reopened) we had been in line for an hour and a half. Too bad we didn`t get to ride it. Yes, I never got to ride Hypersonic. So far my one and only visit to Kings Dominion came in 2000, the year before Hypersonic was installed. Hopefully, I`ll be able to make it out to Kings Dominion again this year to ride their big new ride.
-
Yeah. Its likely because it is the beginning of the month. I don`t have to worry, since I already got my 2010 Platinum pass back in October. Hopefully, when I go to KI for the first time this year, it will not be my first use of the pass this year.
-
Lol. If only we could get a full service sit down restaurant inside Kings Island. Of course, that would likely cost a few nickels to install, not to mention the price to dine there!
-
To be fair, it was buried in that thread on Planet Snoopy. As I said in that thread, it would not surprise me if this goes into the small counter service food stand that is surrounded by the Emporium on International Street, right near the Festhaus, and on the same side of International Street as Skyline Chili.

Former Hard Rock Park has a new name
CoastersRZ replied to nhimes90's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Well, here is a link to the Round About (originally Maximum RPM) ride on RCDB showcasing the front of the car. If BMW is suing the park, why are they not suing Premier Rides, the rides designer and manufacturer? And secondly, how are they not having the same issue with the Backlot Stunt Coaster rides at the Cedar Fair parks? Is there some sort of licensing fee that Paramount paid at the time to BMW that the original owners of Hard Rock Park or the current owners of Freestyle Music Park did not pay? -
Hey, at Coney, if there was ever a question about Coney`s history, or Kings Island, or any other amusement park, people would often turn to me! I can`t wait for the spring when amusement parks start opening again. This has been a long off season so far, and there are still many months to go! And I would say I`m not necessarily a KI addict, but an amusement park addict. You kind of have to be if you have spent eight summers working at an amusement park. I mean, last year at Coney I ended up working a total of 715 hours. No one else in the rides department at Coney even topped 500!

Keep in mind that the Nickelodeon Central area at Kings Dominion is much smaller than the area at Kings Island. According to the 2009 park map, there were only about three rides in their Nickelodeon Central area. Everything else at Kings Dominion was themed to Hanna Barbera still, or had a generic theme, and was located in Kidzville. I would imagine that not only will Nick Central be gone this year, but the entire Kidzville area will also be incorporated into Planet Snoopy as well.
-
HTCO, as was mentioned earlier, that map on planetsnoopy.com is actually the 2009 map, just with the Planet Snoopy graphic added. How do I know? Check out planetsnoopy.com/kingsdominion and planetsnoopy.com/carowinds and check on their respective park maps. Both of those maps do NOT have Intimidator on them, which indicates they are indeed the 2009 maps and not the 2010 versions.

Sorry, for the double post. But, this adds some content to this topic. For those of you interested, Reptar at Carowinds is indeed getting a fresh coat of paint. Check out Carowinds` Facebook page which has a set of pictures showing work on their Planet Snoopy. Currently, Reptar has a lot of white primer on it, and a fresh coat of orange paint on many of the supports. I don`t see a track color yet, unless they are intending on keeping the yellow track from Reptar. Carowinds Facebook Planet Snoopy Pictures

I guess it is just me, but I am not a big Maverick fan. It just doesn`t do anything for me. I`d much rather ride Millenium Force or Magnum over Maverick.
-
Well, technically they were right. Cedar Point had planned to open Shoot the Rapids in 2009. But because of the downturn in the economy, they pushed the project back a year.

I know what the times stamps say. I was in the midst of editing my post when you posted that. I had to pull up the Kings Dominion map to see where exactly their Scooby ride was located at, since it wasn`t there on my last visit! I hope to go to Kings Dominion this year and try out Intimidator 305. And maybe make my first visit to a Busch Gardens park as well. Unfortunately, I won`t be able to experience Big Bad Wolf.
-
Terpy, I already beat you to that. I caught that when I was rereading my post after I hit the add reply button. I then proceeded to edit my post with the italicized section. And, the Scooby ride was added at Kings Dominion after my last visit there. Kind of scary, but my first and only visit to Kings Dominion occurred in 2000, ten years ago. My how time flies.

Boo Blasters on Boo Hill? And I thought the name Drop Tower was bad! However, the Scooby ride, er, shall I say Boo Blasters, ride at Carowinds is not located in or directly adjacent to their kiddy land area of the park. Kings Island`s ride is located directly adjacent to (and at one point in time was included as part of) the kiddy area of the park. Edit: I at first thought the link was to Carowinds. I now see that it was to Kings Dominion, where there Scooby ride did in fact open in their kiddy area of the park. Which means my original statement below is likely true. Ie, the same name will be used at Kings Island as well. Will we see a similar name for Kings Island`s Scooby ride? Likely. I hope not, because Boo Blasters on Boo Hill is a pretty bad name. I get that they were going for the alliteration, but still. I mean, Ghoul Grabber in Ghastly Manor sounds better than Boo Blasters on Boo Hill. And at least the Scooby ride mentioned Ghastly Manor. Or was that a direct reference to a Scooby episode, and therefore could no longer be used as well? Regardless, the ride will not be the same as it was with Scooby. Makes me miss Phantom Theater even more!

In my opinion, Afterburn is better than both Raptor and Dueling Dragons! There is no mid course brake on the ride, and the pacing is just awesome. Not to mention there is also a mist filled tunnel (at least it was mist filled on my 2003 visit). Vortex at Carowinds, in my opinion is a more enjoyable ride than Mantis at Cedar Point. I do not enjoy Mantis, as it hurts my legs too much. Granted, the blood rushing to your legs feel was felt somewhat on King Cobra, it is way too intense and uncomfortable on Mantis. While Vortex is a little more intense than King Cobra, it isn`t that bad of a ride. It certainly is better than Mantis, simply because it is not huge. The old adage bigger is not always better certainly applies here.

Fortunately, right now I don`t have rent to pay. I do, however, have student loans to pay off, car insurance, and will be needing to buy a car soon. Fortunately, I have a job that started out as a seasonal job, and has turned into a non-seasonal position. The pay is still bad, but better than minimum wage and certainly better than no job at all. I can`t wait to get back down to Carowinds and ride Intimidator. I also can`t wait to ride Afterburn again. I fell in love with that ride when I first rode it back in 2001. Unfortunately, I was unable to ride it again when I visited Carowinds on opening weekend last year, as it was closed due to high winds!

That wait time of two hours and fifteen minutes didn`t last very long on opening day. By around 1:30 in the afternoon, the wait time was down to about an hour and fifteen minutes. And by the evening on opening day, it was down to about an hour. Which isn`t bad. Hopefully, when I go to Kings Island on opening day this year, I will have already checked out another Cedar Fair park opening a new ride. this year. Although I haven`t decided which park to try and hit up.
-
Patience young grasshopper. Good things often come to those who wait. But waiting can be hard. Trust me, I know. I`m still waiting to land a job in the profession that I got my Masters degree in last June!

Yep. The ride was idle for the first part of 2000. Fortunately, the ride was saved. Most of the old wood supports and fiberglass trough were replaced with stainless steel. Some original fiberglass sections remain (the station area, the two lifts, and the final drop and splashdown area. And when the ride reopened in 2001, the other flume in the park (which was also starting to show its age, even though it wasn`t quite as old as the Thornberrys) was removed to make room for a "totally immersive dark ride adventure." Needless to say, that Diamondback`s layout would be significantly different if Kenton`s Cover Keelboat Canal had not been removed, and The Crypt been built where I heard they had originally talked about placing the ride. Surprisingly, Carowinds log flume received a similar retheme, although not as an extensive of a rehab as Kings Island`s log flume, a few seasons after Kings Islands addition. That was primarily just a cosmetic redressing of the ride, and not actually a rehab/renovation. And look what happened to that ride now...
