  1. Yes, Drop Tower has two towers that drop down and "bounce" back up, while two towers launch up and then "bounce". And I am in the minority when I say that I actually like the name Flight Deck.
  2. Well, they could have renamed Drop Tower to be in line with the names of the drop rides at the legacy Cedar Fair parks. Power Tower at Cedar Point is a far better name, in my opinion, then the plain "Drop Tower".
  3. Keep in mind that August 30, 31st and September 1st is the Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of Labor Day weekend.
  4. And Kroger day is not typically the biggest company picnic that Coney has.
  5. http://www.wcpo.com/news/local/story.aspx?...cb-8601e51d2ab1 The world`s largest indoor train display is opening right here in West Chester. And you might recognize the name of the General Manager of Entertainment Junction. He used to work at Kings Island, prior to the purchase of the park from Cedar Fair.
  6. I believe that the road on the left in the picture in question is where KI/Great Wolf`s property meet each other. Just because there is a fence between the crates and the greenhouses, does not necessarily mean that that area of land is not KI`s.
  7. Afterburn is by far one of the best inverted coasters I`ve been on! It ranks up there among the best steel coasters I`ve ridden! It is definitely a fun ride. And you can`t go wrong with the pacing of the ride, as there is no mid course block brake, so it is nonstop thrills from the lift to the end of the ride! Did you get to ride the very fun and interactive Flying Super Saturator? I haven`t visited Carowinds since 2003, and that was before they installed Nighthawk.
  8. Today, Thursday July 17th is the annual Jimmy Buffett concert at Riverbend Music Center. This year marks the 20th anniversary of his first show at Riverbend, which occurred in 1988. This year`s show sold out in just ten minutes, making it Buffett`s 41st consecutive sell out at Riverbend. Prior to performing at Riverbend, Buffett had shows at Kings Island in Timberwolf Ampitheater from 1984-1987. All six of the shows that he did at Kings Island also sold out! And it was the 1985 show at Timberwolf where Timothy B. Schmidt, a current member of the Eagles, coined the term "parrotheads." So if you are one of the ones lucky enough to see Buffett at Riverbend, have fun! Otherwise, be forewarned that the tailgating along Kellogg Avenue outside of Riverbend and Coney starts fairly early, and can snarl traffic.
  9. As Kroger day happened on a Friday this year, I was not at the park that day. However, I do know that they were doing photo and video shoots throughout the park that day for commercials. And while Coney may not attract the millions of guests that Kings Island does, it still does fairly well for itself. But they are not going to plunk down millions of dollars on recreating the mall, when the current strategy is working just fine. And on behalf of the Coney Staff, thanks for the kind words. Since I only work on the weekends, when the vast majority of company picnics are scheduled, I typically see Coney during its busiest days. Its not uncommon to see the Python have a completely full line (when the line is out to the entrance, it is about a thirty minute wait!) Heck, this past Sunday (a day that didn`t seem very busy), I was at Eurobungy late shift, and we had a line for it until we closed! It made for a very long shift at Eurobungy without any breaks in the flow of guests!
  10. Both Kings Island, and KIC do not currently have a podcast. To be honest, there isn`t really enough "news" developments on Kings Island to provide an entertaining podcast that can be released with any regularity. Its slightly different with podcasts like over on Coasterbuzz, where they are covering the entire amusement park industry.
  11. Don`t look for anything in the wood coaster department at Coney. Coney already has plans set for new and exciting things next season, and a wood coaster is not one of them.
  12. Are you referring to the fact that Kings Island was left off of the list of newly acquired parks that are performing well for the company? Or the fact that they always seem to stress how much of their annual attendance still ahead in the coming weeks and months?
  13. First of all, I doubt your "sources" would like you spreading information they reveal to you on a website forum. Secondly, I doubt that if the park had one of its larger crowds for a single day that the 40,000 number is accurate.
  14. How exactly do you even know what the park`s official attendance was for the day, let alone the fact that it was the biggest single day attendance mark in eleven years? Which, by the way is not necessarily a "record" if there have been busier days in terms of the number of the people in the park.
  15. The Interpreter is right. Try using the very helpful search tool before posting new topics.
  16. Well, I would have added "Island" in the subject line, but when this topic appears on the main page of the site under the recent topics, the "Island" portion causes the Kroger part to be kicked off. Thats because the title of this thread is already rather long. And it is in the Coney Island forum, and I did mention Coney Island in my original post.
  17. This coming Friday, July 18, every Coney Island pass holder can bring a guest for free to experience Sunlite Pool and Coney`s classic rides. Additionally, Sunlite Pool will be open that same day from 9pm until midnight for a late night swim. Guests may be brought to this event for $6 (for guests 4 years and older) and $3 for 2-3 year olds (kids under two are free).
  18. For the month of July, Coney Island is teaming up with Kroger and LaRosa`s Pizza. For guests that bring a Kroger receipt to any Coney ticket booth and buy four regularly priced Sunlite Pool and rides admissions, they will receive a free large LaRosa`s Pizza, four small drinks and a $10 gas card at Kroger. The regular pool and rides admission price is $19.95 per person. The free pizza and drinks are valid at the LaRosa`s locations in Coney Island only.
  19. And, I was able to share many little known insights about Coney with Gordon Bombay, Captain Nemo and Mr. 3000. Now in my seventh year at Coney, I`ve gathered quite a bit of information on the place!
  20. Most excellent pictures and trip report Ronny! And for those of you who wish to know more about Coney Island, visit ConeyIslandCentral.com
  21. Need I remind you that the last few years that Paramount/CBS was in control of the park, the International Show Place sat vacant and had no shows all summer. Not to mention that the Festhaus last had a live show in it back in the mid 1990`s. You can`t complain about the amount of options for live entertainment you have this year!
  22. And was originally known as Marriott`s Great America when it first opened.
  23. Several years ago, there was a PBS documentary called "A Lion in the House." It was a documentary filmed at Cincinnati Children`s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati that followed five families over six years as they had kids battling various types of cancer. One of the patients made a trek to Kings Island, and was able to have fun and a wonderful time, even though he had to have a nurse with him during his visit. Sadly, if I remember correctly, that kid did not survive his cancer. But for those hours that he was at the park, he was able to be a kid again, and forget about all the pain that the cancer and cancer treatments were causing him. Programs like this are wonderful programs. Anytime a place can add a smile to a kids face that has been through more suffering then most adults can imagine, it is a wonderful gesture. During my first year at Coney on a particularly hot and busy day, I was working the Scrambler with a coworker. Our manager asked us how we were doing. We responded with tired due to the crowds and ready to go home. My manager responded with "Look at all the smiles you are putting on the kids faces who are riding your ride, that`s what makes this job worth it." A few years later, I was working the Spin-A-Ree and helicopter ride (we were short staffed) and it had stormed early in the afternoon. No one was at the park, but we stayed open, because the Boys and Girls Club of Cincinnati was coming in for a brief two hour visit at the end of the night to ride the rides. I had a small boy, probably around five or six years old who ended up riding my ride. When he entered he said "I remember you from last year. You`re that nice guy that was running the helicopters last year and let me ride three times in a row." It is those things that have made my job at Coney so enjoyable. Being able to put a smile on the face of a kid more then makes up for the low pay, long hours and hot temperatures.
  24. Right, I know that. What I was saying was if Disney were to let anyone carry guns on property, you would think it would be security.
  25. Bear in mind that in the State of Ohio, amusement park operators must follow all manufacturer recommended height requirements. I`m not positive if that 48" height requirement was mandated by the manufacturer or not. I was a little shocked when I first heard the height requirements for that ride. That being said, the ride does have quite a little bit of a "pop" to it. More so then the Viking Fury at Kings Island. It certainly got my stomach a little bit, while the one at Kings Island never really does. Thanks for the kind comments on the video. Hopefully, by the end of the year, I`ll be able to cut a few more videos for Coney Island Central. Well, I`m out of time. I have to go down to Coney right now to work a double shift in the rides department!
