  1. The ones from KI that were shipped to WoF were sent there at the end of 2006 I believe. Before the close of the season. Personally, I was sad to see Phantom Theater close and be replaced by Scooby, not to mention the loss of the Flying Eagles.
  2. There are discounts around (or at least were around earlier in the summer) for the rides. Remember the after 4pm price for the rides is $7.95, not a bad deal either. And really, for $10.95 for an all day rides admission is a great value, when you look at KI where general admission at the gate is now $47.99 and parking is $10 a car!
  3. Well, they really haven`t done any work on the actual station in quite some time (beyond the foundation work anyway).
  4. More information on this story can be found here: http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...EWS01/308130017 It should be noted that even though a computer regulates the chemicals in The Beach`s pools, their staff manually checks the quality of the water every hour, which is more often then the state regulated once every four hours.
  5. I have visited both KD (2000) and Carowinds (2001 and 2003). Both are fun parks. And don`t forget that KD is home to Shockwave, a similar style stand up to King Cobra, and also manufactured by Togo. Volcano is one awesome and unique inverted coaster, albeit very short, and after the launches and blast through the Volcano, the rest of the layout isn`t that unique. Avalanch is also a unique ride experience in the US. Carowinds is home to Afterburn (formerly Top Gun the Jet Coaster). This B&M inverted coaster is non stop thrills and one of the best steel coasters I have ridden. Did I mention that this ride has no midcoarse brake? And Thunder Road received a MAJOR overhaul for this season, including the complete rebuilding of the turnaround. Personally, I`d like to get back to both parks at some point. Definitely not happening this summer. Maybe I`ll buy a Platinum Pass for next year and try and hit some of these parks again, and possibly some of the other legacy CF parks besides CP.
  6. I ventured to the park today to grab a couple of rides after leaving the office. While there, I snapped a couple of construction photos of Diamondback construction. Work continues on the train storage portion of the ride. Diamondback Construction 8-13-08
  7. The Beast utilizes magnetic trim breaks on its circuit. They cannot be "turned off" by the control panel as they are permanent magnets (as opposed to the electromagnets which are utilized to lock the gates on rides like Drop Tower and Delirium. The only way The Beast`s trims can be modified is if maintenance physically adds or removes the magnets from the ride.
  8. And P&G actually buys out the park for two days, because they have that many employees in the Cincinnati area. This year, P&G day is the 12 and 13 of September. For the first time in more then a decade, I will not be at KI for P&G day. I will instead be down in Florida that weekend this year, at Disney World. So I guess I`ll take Disney over KI this year.
  9. Perhaps they will just open the parking lot for everyone at 8:30 on Saturday. I`m not sure what time they`ve been opening the parking lot on Saturdays this year as I don`t think I`ve been to the park on a Saturday yet this year.
  10. Well, if you haven`t checked out the extensive history section on Coney Island Central, found here, I suggest you visit it. It will likely answer a lot of your questions. To answer your question, the retooling of the park really began in 1977. That is when they added the Zoom Flume at Sunlite Pool. As far as reintroducing rides to the park, that didn`t happen until the mid-80`s with som small kiddie rides. The Bumper Boats and Krazy Kars (no longer at the park) were added in 1989. The following season, the park introduced the two Eli Bridge rides, the Ferris Wheel (built in 1947) and the Scrambler (built in 1990). So it was right around 1990 when the park really began to build up its rides line up.
  11. Why? Would you rather KI not be getting a B&M hyper but instead be getting some old flat rides from GL?
  12. I guess the really important question with all these nostalgic events Kings Island has offered this year, will likely never officially be answered. Did these events bring in more paying customers, and did those customers more then offset the costs of putting on these events? I`d say Knievel brought in a large amount of people. However, I think that Rick Wallenda didn`t bring in quite as many people as expected. But the reason for that is more weather related. The 3rd and fourth of July this year were, for the most part, very wet and rainy. Not ideal conditions for people to visit amusement parks. I know that the 3rd is typically Coney`s busiest day of the season, and due to the rain, attendance was down considerably. Hopefully, in the eyes of the corporate offices, these events have been a success. And hopefully, the park will continue to hold such special events next season and for years to come. They certainly bring about an air of excitement in the park that has been lacking for several years. (Some of that excitement had been back when the Nickelodeon Celebration Parade was at the park, though).
  13. Well, you need to be careful with what you say there Cormaster. Kings Island technically has had a hyper coaster since 2000. Son of Beast, tipping the scales at 218 feet for its lift hill and 214 feet for its first drop is technically a hyper coaster. By definition, a hyper coaster is generally considered any coaster that is taller then 200 feet in height. However, Son of Beast is atypical of every other hyper coaster ever built in that it is made out of wood, not steel, and the ride layout is not really focused on providing air time.
  14. Well, considering that the 25-30 people that were let go were not just seasonal workers, I`d say that is pretty telling that the park itself is struggling. Yes, it is not a drastic lay off, but still shows that they are facing some financial difficulties, since they cut some full timers.
  15. Re-read my post above yours. I stated that rides that were NOT relocated to KI were likely scrapped. And the Turnpike cars that resided at Coney and actually on the shores and over Lake Como were NOT relocated to KI to my knowledge either.
  16. I think many of the rides that resided at Coney in 1971 that were not moved to KI in 1972 were ultimately scrapped, unfortunately.
  17. Those are the only rides that I know where they came from. The Carousel, Scream Machine, Frog Hopper and Eurobungy Dome were all installed new from the manufacturer. I know rides like the Ferris Wheel (manufactured in 1947) and the Scrambler (manufactured in 1945) were at other parks prior to their arrival at Coney, I simply do not know what those other parks or locations were.
  18. Looking for a fun filled way to end your summer, other then a trip up to Kings Island? Coney has it! You can now stop by area Skyline Chili locations to receive discount coupons to Coney Island. You can save $5 off of a pool and rides ticket, which brings the total to $14.95. Or, if you are just looking to cool off at Sunlite Pool, you can save $3 off of pool admission with a ticket for $7.95. Don`t miss this chance to experience all that Coney has to offer for unbeatable prices! And don`t forget to try out Coney`s new attractions for this year. The new River Runner is sure to delight the thrill seekers, while the Turtle Parade will please the younger set. And those looking for a little more jumping action can tackle the new Eurobungy Dome (separate fee required). So if you haven`t been to Coney lately, what are you waiting for? I know that I got fellow members Captain Nemo and Gordon Bombay down to Coney with me for a couple hours after work, and they had a tremendous time there! In fact, you can see Gordon Bombay`s trip report here. And if you swing by on a weekend, don`t forget to look for me running one of the rides (most likely the Ferris Wheel or Rock O Planes). I`ll be there ALL day both days this weekend.

  20. Beats me. Probably, just a picture of a pass that the person linked to when they were creating that page. If you click on the image and fill out your season pass barcode number, it takes you to the page that has the renewal rates for the passes.
  21. If you are a current 2008 season pass wanting to renew a pass for next year, it is not automatically gold. I`m not sure what the rates are for new pass holders for the 2009 season. However, for renewing 2008 pass holders who are purchasing a 2009 pass, a KI only pass is $79.99 and does NOT include parking. You must purchase a parking pass for $39.99. For $5 more, at a cost of $84.99, you can buy a KI Gold Season Pass for 2009, which includes free parking. And for $140, you can go for the Platinum Pass which grants admission to all Cedar Fair properties.
  22. Believe me, the KIC staff will be at the official announcement today, and will update this site as soon as possible with all the details on this new ride. Unfortunately, I will be the only KIC staff member not in attendance today, as I am at my co-op job until 5pm! But I plan on heading up to the park after I get off, to ride a couple rides.
  23. Well, both Coney Island and Kings Island use Ellis and Associates to train and certify their lifeguards. So in theory, their training programs should be very similar.
  24. That is a nice article. Except for one thing... It doesn`t mention Coney Island!
  25. Remember, time is running out to buy your tickets to KIC day at Kings Island! Two hours of ERT, a behind the scenes tour of Son of Beast, and the chance to partake in a construction tour of the new for 2009 ride! And don`t forget the drink wristbands, and the Q&A with a full time employee of KI! Click here to purchase tickets to the KICentral event at Kings Island. If you haven`t bought your tickets yet, time is running out. The deadline is August 4th! Kings Island. Where Else?
