Ride like to Behemoth coming to KI?
CoastersRZ replied to DropZone99's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Yes, as a general rule, you should at least attempt to use proper grammar and spelling. It makes reading the forums easier for everyone involved. And I`ll admit that your sentence was rather brutal to read. -
According to Siebert on one of the construction tours for IJ back in the spring of 2005, they decided that the gray color of the track would look more like a road, and would not stand out as much as the yellow track.

Closing Could Add Rides To Kings Island!
CoastersRZ replied to Airromeo4Ever's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Yes, the article simply mentions that Kings Island could receive some rides because it is another Cedar Fair park. I too, wouldn`t mind seeing a flat ride or two from Geauga Lake. Both the Ferris Wheel and Time Warp could be nice additions to Kings Island`s flat ride line up. -
Geauga Lake rides side to close.
CoastersRZ replied to FOFirehawkFAN's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
If you refer to the press release that Cedar Fair issued, you would find out that Geauga Lake is 119 years old. -
Yes. The private events usually occur in September. It is when large companies (in September it is GE, P&G and Toyota) rent out the park for their employees and their families. Only employees and their families can get tickets to the park for these days.

As Haunt Guy mentioned, today is a private event at the park. The park will, however, be open to the general public and season pass holders tomorrow from 10am until 8pm.

Geauga Lake rides side to close.
CoastersRZ replied to FOFirehawkFAN's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Well, the rides at Coney do not make Coney Money. Coney`s money is made at the pool. And group sales which are primarily driven by the pool and ride combo package is also a large part of how Coney makes its money. (The other being parking and concessions revenues from Riverbend concerts). -
I don`t foresee this happening. The space between Top Gun and the Lodge is not very flat and would not be conductive for a challenge park. Besides, why move Sling Shot and Skyflyer, as they bring in good business where they are. The money that would be required to do such a thing would not result in a big enough increase in sales. And not everyone is talking about a new B&M dive or floorless coaster. To be honest, I doubt that next years attraction will be anywhere near as big as a roller coaster.

Geauga Lake rides side to close.
CoastersRZ replied to FOFirehawkFAN's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I highly doubt we have anything to worry about at Kings Island. It will be interesting to see what Cedar Fair does with some of GLs flat rides. As others have said, I wouldn`t mind seeing a couple show up at KI, but we will just have to wait and see what happens. -
See your theory is wrong. There is no standing water located below Vortex left over from the lake that used to reside under The Beast. Additionally, foundations for rides are designed to go down to good bearing soil and/or bedrock, and would thus not be affected by water. Furthermore, I believe that the removal of the lake around The Beast was more a result of trying to keep it clean, then maintenance accessing the ride. Since the line for the ride used to be over the lake, I`d imagine that quite a few articles of trash a day would find their way onto the lake surface. Not to mention that the lake would have required circulation pumps to keep it from being a breeding ground for mosquitos and other insects.
-
And with regards to someone mentioning Son of Beast getting stuck upside down. It never was stuck in the loop with riders. The first season it was open, a train did get stuck half way up the lift hill, and the riders had to be evacuated down the lift stairs.

Suspended Catch Car?
CoastersRZ replied to art_star's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I did not see a ride listed on Intamin`s website listed as Suspended catch car. I did, however, see a ride listed as Suspended catapult coaster. The ride pictured is Volcano: The Blast Coaster at Kings Dominion. Essentially, it is an inverted coaster like the Impulses, except that it is a complete circuit ride, and not a shuttle coaster. -
I`d venture to say that White Water Canyon has also begun its winter rehab, as its exit will be utilized for the Tombstone Terror-Tory haunt at Halloween Haunt.

Between the top of the poured concrete footing and the bottom of the bearing plate for steel coasters is a gap. This gap is filled in with expansive grout once the entire ride is assembled. This grout allows for the bearing plate to then be in direct contact, and thus in direct bearing with the footing. Hence, not all the forces that are in the support column have to go through the bolts to the footing, but can go through the expansive grout. The fact that one column was listed as "grout" might mean that the grout needed to be replaced/patched on that particular column.

I`d say there is about as much chance of Kings Island getting a roller coaster next year as there is of Cedar Fair retiring all of its debt next year.
-
Very true. Very true. To think I had a full three hour lecture a couple years ago on the properties of concrete. (That doesn`t include the full lecture I had on the various ways to finish concrete and help it cure!)
-
Oh no. While I insist on calling them footings, and not footers. As I said in an earlier post, while the correct terminology is footings, the slang term often used by people in the trades. However, it is incorrect to say that footings (or footers if you so please) are made of 'cement'. Cement is one ingredient in concrete. It is the glue that holds the sand and aggregate together. Cements chemical reaction with water (hydration) is what gives it its strength. (And no, the water in concrete does not simply "dry" or "evaporate." Enough on the lesson about concrete (I could go on, but I don`t want to bore anyone with more frivolous knowledge).

Anyone been to CP Halloweekends?
CoastersRZ replied to clbehymer's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Not sure about the people in your group that don`t have a Maxx Pass. But I know for a fact that you can enter the park from the Magnum gate with your Maxx Pass from KI. I went to CoasterMania in June and stayed in Breakers. My brother and I entered the Magnum entrance to the park the night before the event. They simply asked us to write our names down and where our Maxx Pass was from. -
Not to mention that the capacity on that ride is probably pretty low. And as others said, there isn`t much to it.

Well, before they were located where there last spot was in Coney Mall (at the present site of the three point challenge), they were located on the current site of the Dodgems. When the Dodgems were installed in 1986 (along with the Zephyr and now defunct Skylab), the Eagles were moved to the new location. Prior to the Eagles being at Kings Island, they were, of course located at Coney Island on the mall. I don`t know of any pictures from Coney that are online, but I know that there are pictures in Charles Jacques` Coney Island book that shows the Eagles. BTW, that book is full of lots of great pictures from Coney Island.

Well, I am not an architect yet. But I do have my Bachelors of Science in Architecture from UC. The proper terminology if footings. However, many people in the actual construction trade, ie the actual people who build the buildings, often refer to them as footers. Footers is like the slang term. It is akin to saying "That is not true" which is correct grammatically, and "That ain`t true."

Yep. That is why the Ferris Wheel at Coney is usually run by second years or higher, because you actually have to "know" how to run the ride, or you could run into problems with it, like I mentioned. Balancing is also why the cars are not numbered in order on Coney`s wheel. Car one and two are on opposite sides of the wheel, to help us keep track of what cars to go to when unloading and loading. You will know the wheel is off balance, when the wheel, due to the weight of being off balanced, is actually moving backwards when the brake is on. Since I have worked the ride for five years now, that is why more often than not I will be working the Ferris Wheel while at Coney. Depending where I am co-oping next spring and summer, I might be back running Coney`s classic rides for a seventh straight year.

What is Kings Island REALLY going to get?
CoastersRZ replied to familyguyfun1's topic in Coming Attractions
Since a SFKK rep knows exactly what Kings Island is getting next year, right? In all seriousness, I wouldn`t be surprised in the least to see a new attraction splash up at Boomerang Bay, since the last new addition was installed there back in 2004. -
Pictures were uploaded yesterday. I took five pictures while at the park yesterday, and they can be viewed here.
