Could Son of Beast Accident Been Avoided?
CoastersRZ replied to coaster_junky's topic in Kings Island
Well, if you want to get technical about it, The Voyage and all wooden coasters have steel rails that are bolted to the eight layers of wood track. Most wood coasters also use steel rails for the side friction wheels as well, although some don`t use steel throughout the entire track. Furthermore, some wooden coasters, like the Fairly Odd Coaster use flanged wheels, and do not need side wheels to stay on track. -
Yep. There was the Les Taxis, by the Dodgems, and then there was the Ohio Overland Auto Livery down by Swan Lake and Rivertown Pizza. The Auto Livery met its demise sometime in the mid to late 90`s. The Les Taxis which became known solely as the Antique Cars the last few years obviously met their demise in the middle of the 2004 season. Those cars are now being used out at World`s of Adventure in Kansas City. Geauga Lake had a set of Antique Cars. Wouldn`t it be ironic if they sent those down 71! I think they would be a great (and welcome) family addition to Kings Island.

And in order to maintain that repeat business, the park must continually adapt and change to meet the demands of their customers. Just look at grocery stores, and the changes that have been sweeping across the Kroger prototype in the last ten years. In order for businesses to remain viable, they have to continuously adapt to what their clients want. And that might mean that some of the older attractions that don`t receive high attendance counts anymore might be better suited to be removed and replaced with a new attraction that will help get bodies through the gates.

They only had lights on the Eiffel Tower when they held WinterFest. WinterFest ran from 1982-1992 and returned in 2005 for a failed rerun attempt.

Already being discussed here. Please direct all comments into that topic please.

Yep. Coney`s official website is www.coneyislandpark.com. Or, you can check out the unofficial website on Coney Island, and an extension of KICentral at www.coneyisland.KICentral.com. You can find lots of useful information on there, as well as historical pictures. And, Coney Island Cincinnati got its name back in 1886. Under new ownership, the owners changed the name from Parker`s Grove to Ohio Grove: The Coney Island of the West. After a while, the Ohio Grove portion was dropped and the park became known simply as Coney Island.

SFGAd Fantasy Fling For Sale

I`ve operated the Super Round Up at Coney for six years now. It always is one of the more popular (and higher capacity) rides at Coney. -
Future of Coney Island, Cincinnati- our Beloved Park
CoastersRZ replied to westcoaster's topic in Coney Island Central
Yeah. You are way over predicting what Coney would install in a typical year. Keep in mind that Coney only gets a small handful of people in a season when compared to Kings Island. (I`ve heard that Coney`s attendance is usually around 500,000 a year.) There will be changes at Coney in 2008, I can guarantee that much. The Giant Slide will be in a new location next year, as its former location is home to the now under construction Riverbend Pavilion. Beyond that, I don`t know what changes are planned for the park. And yes, I have worked many, many years at Coney. Hard to believe that I have worked there for six seasons now! Back when I started in 2002, I never would have imagined that I would still be working there in 2007! -
Anderson Township, which Coney resides partly in. I am seven miles from Coney, and about twenty four miles from Kings Island (which is the primary reason why I became a ride op at Coney and not KI).
-
Yep. We got eight rides in on The Beast. Six of those were between 11:10 and midnight!
-
I was also on the second to last train of The Beast for the season, riding with fellow KICer ZosoBeast in the middle row of the last car.
-
The sign only says Coney Maul in the month of October and the last part of September. Otherwise, it is spelled the traditional way as in the Washington Mall.
-
Yes, if the crowds were like they were last night, you will get plenty of rides in. Between 11:25 and 11:55, I was able to ride The Beast four times. I only got off once so that I could walk around and warm up some because it was rather cold out last night!
-
Yep. Beast was walk on, with only two trains running. It was odd leaving the park at ten till midnight, because I was the only person in sight in Nickelodeon Universe on my way out. Very odd feeling. The other odd thing, was the amount of maintenance people that were working the rides. Some of them were not even in full uniform, but wearing jeans!

are they giving out jacket tonight and what time
CoastersRZ replied to raptor's topic in Kings Island
I do not know when they start handing out jackets. But, I picked mine up last night at around 7:30. Be advised, that they are currently out of several sizes (XL, and S). They expect to get another shipment in next Monday (at least that is what the person handing out jackets said). -
Yep. I have been swamped with work all weekend and have been unable to visit the park this weekend. (My midterm review for studio is tomorrow). I hope to hit up the park for bare bones nights tomorrow and Wednesday night. Have to get my end of year fix of The Beast, Delirium, Drop Zone, Flight of Fear and Firehawk.

There are still two remnants of the sky ride left at Kings Island. The Nickelodeon Store in Nick Universe used to be one of the two stations. Also, over by Lt. Dan`s behind Bubba Gump`s, there is an old row boat covering up what used to be one of the footings for one of the towers for the ride.
-
Always a plus. I remember several years ago (2000 I believe), when the park was open Friday nights in May from 5 to 10pm. Likely it was a result of the math and science days not being very busy due to only school groups attending.

I wouldn`t say that the magnetic brakes on The Beast made everyone unhappy. And with regards to the rain policy. Obviously, safety is a prime concern. Where to draw the line when it comes to rain is the question. Obviously, Cedar Fair has decided to heir on the side of extreme caution. If they let the rides continue to run in a constant rain, it would be hard to determine when they crossed a line in which it is unsafe to operate them. Granted, if they are also shutting down indoor rides like Flight of Fear and Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle for a light rain as well, there is certainly something not right about that. But keep in mind, the park has your best interests in mind with regards to safety.
-
Yes.I know Cedar Point`s can load multiple cars at a time as well (technically, we can load two cars at a time on the Rock O Plane at Coney, but I don`t like to do that, as it is a rather large step up to the cars). But it still, like the Monster, requires several long stops when each set of cars are loaded, as opposed to most flats where all the cars/seats are loaded at the same time.
-
Errr. They are technically called footings, not footers! I would tend to agree that it is not likely that Cedar Point will likely not build over Lake Erie waters. Mostly because they likely do not own the land over which the water sits. Their land probably covers the beaches that they have, but does not extend too terribly far into the lake waters.
-
Yeah. I will be in Chicago from 11/6 until late 11/10. Never been to Chicago, but a bummer I won`t be able to get my jacket. Gotta love an almost free trip to Chicago for school!
-
Yeah. Cedar Fair`s unit price has been bogged down of late. Ever since they announced their attendance and revenues through Labor day, the unit price has been less then favorable for those who hold units (including myself). But as long as they continue to pay out their cash distribution, I will be happy.
