Well, they didn`t exactly say they wouldn`t be getting anything major. They jsut said that there are no large capital expenditures at the Parmount Parks. IE no major roller coasters. It is not out of the question to possibly expect a large flat ride akin to a Delirium that will cost $5 million or so. If located in Coney Mall, it could be a very popular attraction, especially if it were to become as popular as Delirium.

Who Wants to Ride the "Maverick"
CoastersRZ replied to marlfox_21's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Already another thread on this. -
Yeah, there hasn`t been much speculation as to what Kings Island will install next season. There hasn`t even been a mention of an area where this new attraction may be located. The only thing that is confirmed is that the park will be getting some sort of new attraction next year. If I had to take a guess, and it is completly that, I would say they will be getting some sort of new flat ride in Coney Mall. But that is based simply on my own opinion, and not any factual information.

But, you have to remember that it is generating income for Cedar Fair. To me, it suounded like the stadium would simply be built in the parking lot, and that the park could stay open. But as others have said, there are too few details. Not to mention that the option is an alternative to their first choice.

VERY interesting clarification re Cedar Fair/China
CoastersRZ replied to The Interpreter's topic in Kings Island
Yeah. They have enough on their plate right now integrating the Paramount Parks into their portfolio. Not to mention that there stock is currently trading close to its 52 week low. I`m sure that down the road they would like to have a resort/hotel adjacent to Kings Island to bring in some revenue during the offseason. -
It was my understanding that Kings Island wanted to have more haunts on the midway spread throughout the park, similar to what they had with CornSTALKERs over by Swan Lake last year.

Fav. Defunct Park/Waterpark
CoastersRZ replied to vortexdemon05's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I`d imagine Americana is guarded pretty well since they are trying to sell some of those rides. I`m sure they don`t want people coming through and damaging the rides that are sold and haven`t been shipped yet. Besides Stricker`s Grove getting one of the rides from Americana (Electric Rainbow), another local park might just salvage a ride from the park. The Tilt A Whurl that used to run at Fantasy Farm now runs at Coney Island. Also, the Tempest at Coney used to run up at Americana. -
How many guests really associate the bottom of the sign with the Paramount studios? Chances are if Cedar Fair drops the Paramount name in all the park titles, they will simply replace the individual sign lettering and not a whole portion of the sign.

Well, if you want to get technical, it wouldn`t say "King`s Island." That is because the correct spelling of Kings Island is without an apostrophe, and is based on the location that KI is built near, Kings Mills. There used to be several mills located on the Little Miami River (which is visible from the Eiffel Tower). One of the mills was owned by someone with the last name of King, and that is how Kings Mills got its name. There was a link to the specific history related to Kings Mills in another thread.

Now leave the moderating to us moderators. The reason they most likely canceled the Halloween event at Geauga Lake is probably, as others have stated, that it was not drawing in people and not making a profit. FearFest on the other hand has been a huge success. Especially since they started including it free with park admission and season passes. They get a ton of peopl up at the park for the nightly portion and all the games and restaurants always seem busy. I`m sure Kings Island makes a decent profit off of Fear Fest. Keep in mind that at the initial press conference about the sale, Dick Kinzel was not apparantly aware that the Paramount Parks had a Halloween event but expressed that they would definantely want to consider rolling out an event similar to HalloWeekends based on the success that they have had at Knott`s and Cedar Point. With that, I think it is safe to say that FearFest will be around for years to come.

Well, when paramount bought the parks in 1992, all they did to the original sign was removed the original KI logo portion and replaced it with the new PKI logo. (They add to add on a little bit for the Paramount portion). In the last years before the sign was blown over, you could still make out where the old Kings Island logo had been from the weather stains.
-
I see that as a viable option. Dropping the Paramount name from the park for next season, and slowly fading out the in park Paramount branding. I think that Cedar Fair would be wise to hold onto the Nickelodeon rights (and even to extend them when the four year contract expires in 2010.) That way, park guests that are accustomed to rides like Top Gun, Tomb Raider and Italian Job won`t loose those names immediately but over a period of time, which gives Cedar Fair a chance to spread out the cost of renaming/theming those rides over a period of off seasons, instead of doing rushing to complete everything in one off season.

Yeah, that website is not really a objective determinant of the "venues." This website has been brought up before and is by no means an official website. Heck, most of their complaintes are submitted by people, with no way to verify the reported injury actually occured. The website is more along the lines to criticize a park and make the webmaster sound like he knows a lot about the park.

Son of Beast Article in Cincinnati Enquirer
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Kings Island
Yep. We all make mistakes at some point, LOL. -
Well, that might be because 'pkimaureen' is actually Kings Island`s own Maureen Kaiser. I look forward to hearing your trip report when you return. Have a great time!

Son of Beast Article in Cincinnati Enquirer
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Kings Island
Yep. I miss typed in my post above. It is the Ohio Department of Agriculture (not Architecture). Thats what a weekend of tracing and developing a set of preliminary plans will do to you. -
Racer06, did you not see the post directly before yours talking about how Cedar Fair has yet to decide whether or not they are going to use the Paramount licenses next year? They might just phase those out over the life of the ten year contract. That way they slowly fade away and it allows the change to be made quite easier. Whereas if they decide to can them after this season, they will have a lot of changes to make all at once.

The thing with the rights for Hanna Barbera and Scooby Doo is that when the park purchased the ride from Sally Dark Rides, they bought a contract for the Scooby Doo license. The original HB license that stems from the days of Taft Broadcasting in the 60`s was apparantly set to expire in 2009, and hence the complete retheme to Nick Universe this year. Not sure what the sale has done to that contract of the HB. Yes, Phantom Theater was a much more unique attraction than SDatHC, and a remarkable ride for a seasonal theme park like KI. No, the ride doesn`t change exactly every ten years. 1972-1983 it was the Enchanted Voyage. From 1984-1991 it was the Smurf`s Enchanted Voyage. From 1992-2002 it was Phantom Theater. From 2003-present it is Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle.

Son of Beast Article in Cincinnati Enquirer
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Kings Island
Well, in the history section of this site, we have 1991 listed as the year the incident occured. So they must have gotten the information from the Ohio Department of Architecture. Although I find it hard to believe that they would get that information incorrect since they are the ones that inspect and keep records on the rides. -
An article that appeared in the Cincinnati Enquirer today details what industry experts think will happen to Son of Beast. Most agree that it will stick around, and even reopen this year. Will Son of Beast Return? Also included in the article is a section on injuries that have occurred at Kings Island. While they got the year wrong for Black Sunday (they referred to it as happening in 1993 instead of 1991) they do mention PKICentral as being a source for the information and citing PKIC as "the park`s official fan Website" However, we do list black Sunday as occuring in 1991. (The other source was the Ohio Department of Agriculture.) Prior Accidents at Kings Island

But there are two attractions in which the map lists the incorrect height for the rides. Particularly two of the new Zamperla creations in Nick Universe (Phantom Flyers and Plankton`s Plunge). And as TopGun1993 stated, there are signes at the entrance to every ride with the correct heights for that particular attraction.
-
Well, it depends how crowded the park is. They now are opening the metal detectors before ten in the morning, unlike at the beginning of the season. This has alleviated some of the lines at the metal detectors, but depending on the day, there could still be lines. And, if you arrive shortle before ten, you should be fine as only the midways immediately past the main entrance is home (up to the base of the fountain.

I also believe that if you go up the exit ramp with a child, they will be able to measure him/her so you don`t have to wait in a long line if there is one only to find out that they are too short. I`m not sure if this is a standard policy or not. I`m sure some of the ride ops that frequent these boards would know some specific procedures about height checks.
-
I`m sure that they will offer those that purchased tickets in advance refunds, assuming it is canceled, which seems very likely at this point in time.

Who said they have bad blood? Simply because Castaway Bay is competing with the GW up in SanduskY? I`m sure that Cedar Fair would have liked to get the minority interest in the GW that CBS still has. Heck, I bet they would like to operate the GW as their own resort for PKI.
