The Beach--Attendance UP
CoastersRZ replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The pedal boats that they use in the Lazy River at the Beach are the same Pedal Boats from Coney Island, just a little FYI. -
The Beach--Attendance UP

Obviousely, The Beach has been doing something right with their Holiday event as it has been a very successful event that they have held for numerous years. -
Strickers Grove, the 30th of July 2006
CoastersRZ replied to westcoaster's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
No, I don`t know what will be going next to the Carousel. I haven`t been to Stricker`s Grove in probably five years. You never know, Coney may just end up with one of the rides from Americana. But I doubt that it will be the Whip... -
Erieview Closing
CoastersRZ replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Where do you see that the park is closing for good? -
I agree. Phantom Theater was a truly unique ride with awesome animatronics that were rare for a seasonal park. Sadly, ridership had dwindled in its final seasons, which is what led to its demise. At least all was not lost, the park still brings out many of the characters to decorate the queue for the Action FX Theater at FearFest. Not last year, but in 2004, they actually had some of the animatronics operational!

Strickers Grove, the 30th of July 2006

That would be nice, but unfortunately, that ride isn`t for sale. Yes, the same company that owns Coney (Park River Corporation under the ownership of Brenda Walker) used to own Americana. After Park River Corporation sold Americana in 2000, they relocated one ride from Americana to Coney, the Tempest. -

Klockster, I believe that Stricker`s has put the Schawbinchen from Cedar Point for sale. They instead opted to buy the Electric Rainbow from LeSourdsville Lake. SG might not be the only area park to receive a ride from Americana in 2007... And the Teddy Bear is not the same exact ride from Coney Island. Ralph Stricker used the blueprints from the original ride at Coney to build a replica of the orginal Teddy Bear. Incidentally, the Tornado, was designed by the late Al Collins, who had a large hand in designing The Beast. It is a mirror image of the Mighty Lightnin that used to run at Rocky Glen Park in Moosic, PA. Apparantly the lift equipment on the Tornado came from the Mighty Lightnin after Rocky Glen closed in 1988. -
Yeah, I`d imagine that management at Cedar Fair is discussing the season pass program currently. Since Paramount Parks traditionally began selling them in August, it is an issue that they have to think about soon. At least to let the customers that typically renew know when they can buy their passes. I have always bought my season pass right around Labor Day weekend. Will I be able to this year? Who knows. Only time will tell when you can buy a season pass for next year.

Yeah, that looks like a pretty good deal. Where did you see that ad at (which Ameristop)? Considering normal pool and ride admission is $18.50, assuming that promotion is still current, you would save $7.50. I know that Ameristop does offer discounts to the for a ride all day pass, haven`t heard of a combo pass. Especially wierd that the price listed is $10.99 because out at the Rides ticket booth, we don`t get any pennies in our drawer...

They have it listed as an existing coaster, but they also say that it is "In Storage" under its current status.
-
Uh, they shouldn`t be letting you use your PKI season pass to get into Knott`s Berry Farm, as the season pass programs for both Cedar Fair and Paramount Parks are remaining as is (ie only valid at the respective chain`s parks) for the remainder of the season.

Ok. To clear up some confusion with regards to this "Antique Cars." Back in 2002, on the current site of Spin-A-Ree, there was an 'umbrella' kiddie ride (similar to Kiddie Circle Freeway at Coney and Go Diego Go at Kings Island). That ride was removed in 2003, when The Frog Hopper was introduced next to the Carousel (where Scream Machine is now) and Spin A Ree replaced the old Antique Car ride. Then, last year they brought in the Scream Machine, and moved the Frog Hopper to where Baby Bumper Boats were. Also note that under the height requirements, they list a ride called "Skyfighters." There is no current ride (ever since I worked there anyway) by that name. A few revisions to those height requirements. People over 48" can ride on Spin A Ree. If you are under 36" you must be accompanied by an adult. Also, in order to ride Tempest, you must be 48" to ride with an adult and 52" to ride without an adult. Also, on the Python, You must be 36" to ride with an adult, and 52" to ride without an adult. Yes, it is a fun little park. If you go on a weekday, lines should be minimal. Even if you go on a weekend and there are picnics there, you should have no more than a couple cycle wait for any given ride, with the Pythoon being or Dodgems being two of the longer waits. Also, Pedal Boats can have a longer wait if all the boats are out in Lake Como. The Python packs a little bit of a punch. It really whips over the hills, which is part of the reasonwhy we are not allowed to put anybody in the back row of the trains. And, the brakes come on rather hard at the end of the ride. While nothing to write home about, it is a roller coaster none the less. If the lines aren`t long, you could easily get a lot of rides in on it. The Scream Machine is fun, and provides some nice little pops of airtime when it drops. There is also Famous Fairways Mini-Golf next to the Dodgems. If you have a wristband, it will cost $1 to play plus a $1 ball deposit that you will get back when you return the ball when you are done. It is not that elaborate of a course but it is still a miniature golf course. Last time I worked it, there were no score cards though. Also, if you have a Kroger Plus Card, you can get buy one get one free rides wristbands. A normal rides wristband is $9.95 per person and a pool and ride combo is $18.50 per person. The ticket booth is located by the Pepsi Python facing the entrance to Sunlite Pool. I believe parking is $6 per car. Coney is definantely worth a visit. They have some classic rides that you don`t find at many corporate parks like a Round Up, Trabant, Bumper Boats, and Pedal Boats. If you go, make sure to post your trip report. I`d like to hear what you thought of the park. Next year Coney will continue to "grow." I know of at least one attraction that they are adding to the park next year and it will probably be a hit. And they still haven`t finalized other new attractions for next year! I hope I`ve answered your questions! If not, let be know. Having worked there for five years, and having a brother who has worked there for four years and just took his first day off in more than a month yesterday, I know a lot about the inner workings of the park. And you can also visit my website to see some images from Coney last year and this year.

And that statue now resides inside TRTR. It is in the preshow room. It is the statue behind the screen that the preshow rises up and plays on.
-
Well, I`m fairly certain that several items in TR:TR are actual props that were used in the original movie.

The main reason the park has offered the benefits they have, is not only to entice people to buy passes, but to get them to visit the park multiple times. The more times people visit the park, the more likely they are to spend money on food, games, and merchandise. That is the real reason why the park offers perks. They are hoping that they will spend more money in the park by taking advantage of the perks. Without the perks, people would have less of an incentive to visit the park often, and maybe even to buy a pass at all.
-
That might be because they replaced the wood roof on the second tunnel of The Beast. What you are probably smelling is the smell of fresh plywood, which does smell rather nice.
-
I thought it was also banned after Paramount took over the parks, and soon came back, but limited to the point of sale and surrounding premises. (Which is why there are signs saying no beer beyond this point outside several of the restaurants.
-
Well, other than the designated smoking areas, PKI is smoke free, and has been since last year. Granted, they don`t enforce the rule often, but it is in effect. As far as alcohol sales go, Paramount did ban in when they originally bought the parks in 1992. But they brought it back a short time later. Why? Because beer brings in lots of money. Yes, it may not be a "family friendly" product, but Cedar Fair sells beer at their other parks, and will likely continue to sell it at the former Paramount Parks because it brings in money. After all, Cedar Fair is first and foremost in the business of making money for its unit holders.

And the need to double post instead of editing your original post was what? I don`t see them making any pass valid for one year from the purchase date. That would cause all sorts of headaches for admissions, not to mention a lot more paperwork. The reason that zoos and aquariums offer annual passes is that they can operate year round for the most part. Whereas Kings Island is strictly April through October. Not to mention that they presumably have less pass holders than a place like Kings Island. And I believe that the different levels of passes at the zoo are associated with different price levels. Why else would they offer these perks on some passes and not on others. Even at Coney this year, there is a Platinum Pass that entitles the holder to deeper discounts at the food stands, early access to Sunlite Pool, bring a guest free days, etc.
-
And why were you talking to someone in GR about that? Not to mention I don`t know how many of them would have knowledge of those types of decisions, or be able to comment on them to the general public.

What if you were hired to rename KI rides & shops?
CoastersRZ replied to italianchef's topic in KI Polls
But who is to say that Cedar Fair would want to retheme Nick Universe into Snoopy? Maybe they would want to retheme some of the themed areas in their existing parks, if their license allows it/they decide to extend it beyond the original four years. -
Personally, I don`t see them increasing the use of the Speed Lanes. If anything, I think they will reduce that perk. I do think that they might increase the amount of food discounts. It will be interesting to see if they even sell a Gold Season Pass next year. For that matter, it will be interesting to see how the season pass program will work. Will they sell passes starting in August like they used to? Will the regular pass or gold pass include free admission into Cedar Point? There are a lot of open questions with regards to the season passes for 2007. Only time will tell how Cedar Fair alters the season passes.

Amusement Park Ad Wars
CoastersRZ replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Well, it has not been an uncommon site to see a Cedar Point billboard or two around the Cincinnati area around this time of year. I know I`ve seen a couple the past couple of summers. -
As I replied in another thread, they should give each passholder a ticket to be used anytime throughout the season, instead of on any specific day. This way all the extra crowds that come in are not focused into one day, but spread out over a number of days. They used to do this prior to the development of the gold season pass in 2001.
-
It would be better if they gave each pass holder one bring a friend free ticket that could be used anytime throughout the season. They used to do that as a perk to pass holders that renewed before the end of the season would get one ticket per pass good for the remainder of the season. That way, they still get more people into the park who will be spending money, but they can effectively spread out the crowds. By spreading out the crowds across numerous days, they avoid all the chaos that comes with an almost capacity filled park and still manage to get an increase of in park spending over a larger period of days.
