  1. Well, I think it is no question that WinterFest occuring would help out the Great Wolf Lodge. Whether it was the sole reason for them building there is highly unlikely. While many of the decorations could have been rented, some (such as the sets on the train ride) were made specifically for Kings Island by Jack Rouse Associates. Also, there is the infrastructure upgrades that KI made that obviosely aren`t rented. The new lights on the Eiffel Tower, the lights on International Street buildings, the new sound system on International Street and onboard the train. But I don`t think they will have incurred a large loss by not having it again. That is part of the reason why the ice rink was run by an outside vendor. If the park decided not to have WF again, they wouldn`t be stuck with expensive equipment that they would never use again.
  2. Uh, I don`t think the park needs a ton of work in the offseason. Yeah, if they remove the Paramount name from the park, they will be busy with that, even more so if they ditch the Paramount themes throughout the park. But there is nothing major that needs to be done to the park in the offseason. Yeah, that shop was still closed. Last year, didn`t games have a little bowling alley in that building as well?
  3. Well, I was at the park last Sunday and that shop was still closed. But that WinterFest poster was indeed gone. Because I purposely looked to see if it was still there when walking down Coney Mall.
  4. Yeah, I too noticed that all in park promotions for WinterFest have disapeared. Yes, the park said that the event was a success. But would you expect them to come out and say that is was a major flop?
  5. Which, IMO, is really sad. It had a wonderful atmosphere, and given a couple of years to iron out the kinks, could be a hugely successful event. We should know officially if they decided to cancel it by Labor Day. According to the press conference when they bought the parks, that is when they will have decided one way or the other.
  6. Keep in mind that both Dorney Park and Geauga Lake have their water parks included with park admission. Also, I highly doubt that FearFest will dissapear. It has been a success since it was launched. Furthermore, Cedar Fair has had huge success with their Halloween events as well. Yes, some of the pass holder perks may be altered or removed altogether. But Cedar Fair hasn`t publicly commented on what changes, if any, are coming to the season pass programs at the parks. One might think that there will be a super pass where you could get into all three Ohio parks. Which wouldn`t be a bad pass, depending on how much they charge for it. WinterFest might be gone forever. It all depends on if they want to have it this year or not, based on the success of it last year. I hope that they give it another shot this year to see if they can make it work. It would be a great way, if profitable, for Cedar Fair to bring in some extra revenue at an other wise dead time of the year for them.
  7. Yep. That is Coney Island. The Carousel and log flume of course are still operating at Kings Island. The Dodgems ride that was shown was in a building that also housed the Cuddle Up and the Whip. That building is still standing today at Coney Island. It is now known as Moonlite Pavilion and is located adjacent to the Administration building, and next to Trabant and the Super Round Up.
  8. Being in architecture school at UC (I have dealt with ADA and Universal access quite a bit.) In fact, the project I am working on right now for studio is the old Clifton School, which does not have an elevator (that`s one of my many tasks to solve in my design). It is generally frowned upon, as the Interpretor said when the accessible entrance is not in the same area or as easy to get to as the normal entrance. Pluse, depending on the size of the service elevator, even it may not be up to ADA code. As an aside, the Ohio Building Code (OBC) has a section dedicated to amusement park rides. It is primarily related to means of egress from such structures as coaster stations.
  9. I believe that there is one of those signs over in line for Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle as well.
  10. But the thing with that, from what I have heard, is that the service elevator opens in the kitchen. That poses issues then with the health department.
  11. Well, Skyline has had a store in Clearwater Florida for quite some time. My sister ad parents actually ate there when we were in Florida two years ago. Apparantly, it is a big hit down there. In part because a lot of Cincinnatians retire down in Florida.
  12. I think a TGI Fridays could make some sense in the International Restaurant. The issue would become what happens on days when the park is not open to the general public. Is the one up at the Cedar Point resort area open year round? Also, what would happen to the event that the park likes to have up there (ie company events, media events, etc.)? I too think that a nice sitdown restaurant with a picturesque view such as the International Restaurant location would be widely popular. But they would surely have to renovate the kitchen area as well as add in an ADA compliant elevator.
  13. ^Huh? The King Kobra at Kings Dominion was an old launched Schwarkopf shuttle looper. It operated from 1977-1986 and was located approximately where the lift for Anaconda resides today.
  14. What guy/what site? Yes, the first pictures as deduced by others was from 2001, as evidenced by the presence of Runaway Reptar, but lack of Tomb Raider: The Ride.
  15. Regardless of the exact location of the new ride, I think it might end up going somewhere in Coney Mall. The area of the Eurobungee would be a perfect spot. I think a family type flat ride would be a wonderful addition to the park. I mean, look how well Delirium has been received (except that is geared more towards older people and not necessarily families.) I would believe that they have a ride selected already, although the name of the new attraction may be up in the air now that Cedar Fair owns the park. Kings Island might not be the only area park with a new ride in 2007...
  16. Well it isn`t. It used to have a minimum height of 42" but they raised that a number of years ago (when they raised the height requirement on The Racer from 44" to 48").
  17. I still find it interesting that the Antique Cars are sitting behind Delirium, almost two years after they were removed. king_cobra_27, the TVs that are in all the queue lines are still there. The only ones that they removed were the large projection screens in the Festhaus.
  18. Yep, DevilMayChew got it right. If she is 42" she would have to sit in the motionless seats down in front of the Action Theater. Adventure Express requires that all rides be a minimum of 44" to ride. If shorter than that, they will not be permitted to ride, regardless if they have a competent chaperone or not.
  19. Yes. That is kind of what I was saying. FearFest will occur how the park had originally planned it to occur this season. The sale to Cedar Fair will have little to no impact on FearFest this season. From what Jeff Siebert was saying before the final rides of The Beast last season, they were going to turn more of the actual park into a scare zone, similar to how they do it down at Universal. Whether they actually do that has yet to be seen. But I think the CornSTALKERS attraction was a big hit last year. Big enough that they added a similar type thing over by SlingShot AFTER the first weekend of FearFest.
  20. No details have been announced with regards to FearFest this year. How many times does it have to be reiterated that no major changes will occur to the way the park is run for the remainder of the season. FearFest will be no different, I presume, than it would normally have been had the parks not been sold. All the plans are (were) in place for FearFest. P.S. You might want to check out our terms of service, particularly the first paragraph.
  21. No, it has always bring one friend per season pass. Always has been. But when you have as many passholders as PKI does, all those free tickets add up rather quickly. The goal of the bring a friend free day is to get pass holders and others in the park so that they will spend money, increasing the per capita spending.
  22. Kings Island has won an award for their live entertainment before. Forbidden Magic won an award several years back. And don`t forget that the Nickelodeon Celebration Parade has won IAAPA awards.
  23. Actually, The Beast is not painted. It is stained. And Baynum Painting has been the company that Kings Island (and several other amusement parks as well) have used to paint their rides. So technically, the park workers don`t paint the coasters, but the park contracts out to have an outside company paint the rides.
  24. Well, from what I heard they had hoped to have a show in the Festhaus this year. But things didn`t work out how they wanted and with the cuts that were implemented...
  25. And that is the most worrisome part for me. How will they ensure that something similar doesn`t happen again? Was it bad wood? Bad design? Fatigue? I`m sure they will thouroughly inspect this ride and the state will not allow the park to open the ride until it is safe. (Not to mention PKI`s insurance company won`t let them reopen it until they are confident it is safe.)
