SF Conference Call
The Interpreter replied to jzarley's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Yeppers. I have NEVER seen anyone refer to Over Georgia as SFGA. SFGA is Great Adventure (though to be kind, I usually call it SFGAd). SFGAm is Great America. PGA is the other Great America! SF has the FIRST B and M Batman....PGA has the best of its type, and calls it Top Gun (and yes, it IS smaller...and, in my book, more fun!) There's another doozie of those things at Sea World in Texas! -

If competitors in an industry meet and then raise prices after a discussion, there are those in Government who might have an interest...(one reason for that strange disclaimer about not discussing financial things at IAAPA in the front of their brochure...this being the convention at which Mr. Story, Mr. Burke, and Mr. Kinzel agreed to the terms of the Cedar Fair purchase of Worlds of Adventure. -

SFGA? What that? Great Adventure? That's what Six Flags says SFGA is. To avoid confusion, I usually call it SFGAd. Great America? If that, that's SFGAm. If you truly had a great time at Great Adventure, most would say you are in a minority (at least based on those who post a lot on internet boards). A minority that includes me. -
Yep. No site is going to have ALL the facts about anything as complex as PKI. Heck, it's hard enough just trying to find out some of the facts about last week at PKI!

Perhaps they just wanted to ride Kraken and pat Shamu! -
I miss the Tim Fisher days and the LOUD LOUD music playing at admissions/guest relations on International Street (WHAT DID YOU SAY? WHAT DID YOU SAY? I CAN'T HEAR YOU FOR THE MUSIC. I SAID I CAN'T HEAR YOU FOR THE MUSIC!). Oh, wait!

PKICental photo books?
The Interpreter replied to BoddaH1994's topic in KICentral Footnotes & Small News
I am always a sucker for a good calendar! -
The good Bodda told you they are shooting for a Memorial Day weekend opening. No one KNOWS. It's a construction project. You plan the best you can and hope. No one knows what you will run into, the weather, etc.

Those who know, don't tell. Those who tell, don't know. Or is it those who keep trying to fix the thing don't know? I forget!
-
Now, now, Mr. Stupendous. Those who truly love a place see not only its pluses and grand things, but also its shortcomings and places where there is room for improvement. The park no doubt appreciates honest, sincere assessments, not just fanboy fawnings....The former is of use, the latter is syrupy pablum which soon grows tiresome.

Jasper like rainbow slides and Smurfs with family and friends!

Er, no. CBS Corporation is leasing the land in exchange for a 16 percent interest: http://www.fool.com/news/commentary/2006/c...ary06031603.htm So, 16 percent of the profits from that lodge go directly to CBS...
-
That would be another reason for a Gold Star: Barr none!
-
Let me say this about that. If any park chain can fix Son of Beast, it's Paramount. And I sure do hope they get this done before any sale. I can just imagine what Cedar Fair would do that thing. Actually, I'd rather not. Hercules or Mean Streak, either way, it's not good news. Paramount can make it right and may very well do just that. Others, I doubt would.

I take it comments about last hills on The Racer and The Flying Eagles aren't really what you were looking for, right?

New El Toro Pix
The Interpreter replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The new Six Flags is probably more interested in saying that Six Flags Great Adventure has the grandest and best kids area in the United States, Bugs Bunny National Park. I don't think you will see Mr. Shapiro and Mr. Snyder striving for coaster records. At least for a while. But they do refer to El Toro as having a "beastly finale." It's in the original press release. -
I think it can fairly be said that without Mr. Disney's unrest, Mr. Eisner would still be safely ensconced. (defined: safely in place, comfortable). Mr. Disney was an irritant to Mr. Eisner, and gradually wore him down and won others to his cause. And his public withdrawal from his campaign to drive out Eisner did not necessarily mean that he was no longer still working to get him out. He was. No, it wasn't the only reason. But it was almost certainly a reason that without which, Mr. Eisner would have survived to keep doing what was he doing to Disney.
-
It'd be very smart, in my opinion, to also have a Gold Star. . .
-
And yet, Mr. Disney was successful in getting Mr. Eisner gone....

Actually, in many companies the selling company's stockholders would have to vote...but not here. CBS Corporation is controlled by Sumner Redstone, who has majority control of the company. My comment about Cedar Fair had to do with the fact that that company is set up as a limited partnership...in that type of arrangement, common stockholders share in the profits, but not the operations of the company.

New El Toro Pix
The Interpreter replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
First, RailRider knows wood coasters! But, the Six Flags we knew is GONE. How the new Six Flags will maintain rides is simply not known. And the correct comparisons for El Toro are not in this country. This is a prefabricated coaster, built with INTAMIN Plug N Play track. As such, Colossos and Balder are the comparisons: http://www.rcdb.com/installationresult.htm...r=1,2&model=191 -
Cedar Fair is a limited partnership. Common stock owners have virtually NO say in the operation of the company. Only the limited partners would get to vote on any acquisition, not the common stockholders.

New El Toro Pix

Excuse me, but where is this airtime you see 100 feet in the air? El Toro will have airtime, but it will NOT be 100 feet in the air..that'd cost more money than Six Flags had under old management...and new management might not have built it at all. This coaster has drops that go to the ground. I have NO idea what you are talking about. Or better yet, where is the airtime AT ALL on Son of Beast? And SFGAd has its B and M's. Medusa. Nitro. Batman. Where is PKI's? Hmmmmmmm. In the entire chain, I know of Top Gun at PGA (Grand!), Top Gun at Carowinds (even more grand) and Vortex at PCWi and PGA. At PCWo, PKD or PKI? Nada. -
New FX Theatre?
The Interpreter replied to coasterchick095's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
It really doesn't matter how WE deal with it. It matters how little kids and parents deal with it. I suspect they will love it. In which case, don't be expecting major investments in the short term future if minor investments get the same, or even better, returns. I am SURE NU will pay for itself a LOT more quickly than, say, Son of Beast.
