  2. John Allen may have been a genius, and was...but what I wouldn't give to see a similar interview with Herb Schmeck and even more, Harry Traver...or Carl Phare.

  4. Is cheesy the new sleazy? Terp -- old fogey.
  5. Getting rid of those trims results in unacceptable forces on the ride and the riders and unacceptable maintenance costs. Terp, repeating himself.
  6. Just remember, these young men and women are doing exactly what senior management either wants or at least tolerates. It's NOT their fault. They do as they are told or they won't be there long. Management gets what management wants or they are pee-poor management. KI didn't sound like CP South until CF bought it. From the spieling to International Street's music, KI sounds the way the higher-ups WANT it to sound. Ponder that. Terp -- who wishes he could hear trams in the parking lot again.
  7. So, how's that working out? I'd think impulse playing would be waaay down. Is it? Terp -- who is tempted to go to, say, Dorney Park, and waltz up to game attendant after game attendant, cash in hand, and, when directed to the card machine, sashay off.
  8. Who notices steel supports on the Coney Island Cyclone? Comet at The Great Escape, A Member of the Six Flags Theme Park Family? Terp -- who likes to ask questions.
  9. Look at all the stuff you've added to a "simple" spiel. Simply, no. No spiel. Period. See? That's much better.
  10. Question.... does TPR get money from the views the video has, or the amount of "likes" it receives?I think it is views, but I also think a lot of the time the parks themselves pay TPR to come and do footage of the ride for them. I could be wrong about that tho If any park is paying TPR, I'd be shocked, amazed and disappointed. What is it now? A modeling agency?

  13. Put another way, the wording on a sign about the extras and cost of a sundae is an interesting academic discussion. The wording on a sign at a lagoon where real live alligators are known by management to frequent is a life and death issue. Yes, Disney unquestionably knew there were alligators there from time to time. Did they also know people WERE entering the water? How could they not know? Perhaps worse, was Disney itself taking measures to make guest entry into the water more enticing?
  14. So, how was it? Terp, waiting patiently.
  15. And the poor games people. Given a mike and coerced into whining, pleading and begging to get people to pay to play! Add that most have no voice training, put the mike way too close to their mouths, and then speak too loudly. I find the games spieling far more annoying than the rides spieling. It's demeaning to everyone involved. I won't even add a question about the morality of games pricing and the value of the prizes offered...
  16. I've always found it amusing that spieling's most ardent defenders are ride ops who have done it. Because they enjoy it. A ride op has an awesome responsibility. Safety. Their attention should not be diverted, in part or in all, from this duty. They are there to safely operate a ride, not to be some would be Romeo or Juliet entrancing the crowd with their orations. Even worse are power hours, where speed is the overarching goal to the near utter exclusion of safety and guest courtesy. Spieling. Power hours--keep the ride ops entertained. Who is paying to be a guest? The customer and his or her needs and wants should take priority over entertaining the help.
  17. ...and pays lots and lots of money for trips with the "in kids," until the day they no longer are. Bob Avery is even more amazing in person than he is as a site owner. Incredible. Yep. That's the right word. Incredible. He can be ingratiating, wonderful and fun. Or... And the change can be rapid and come out of nowhere for no apparent reason. Life is too short for such drama. Every club has some, but some have waaay more than others.
  18. Even when under different ownership, Cedar Point and Kings Island did a lot of collaboration on maintenance and operational issues. And Great Adventure has always admired and respected Kings Island--heck, Racer was the stand-in model in the days long before Photoshop when Rolling Thunder was being built. It literally had Great Adventure's placards put on the front of the train for brochure cameos. And, I asked about Ollie at the park this year. He's apparently live and well.
  19. And life would then be all unicorns and rainbows...
  20. WTOP News Radio in the Nation's capital actually uses Waze as part of its traffic reports. It's not like you'd be allowed to use a traffic copter now over large parts of this area.
