  1. oh yes, put a Gold Star in and drive people away. Makes good business sense to me (If you couldn't tell, I don't like Gold Star). Also, no there is no SKyline in the lodge. Well, at least look there was no report of one on the website. I guess it could happen, but I bet they would have mentioned it.
  2. I am glad to hear the food was good, I will pass that along to the VP of Resale down there, I am sure he'd like to know your thoughts.
  3. SoB will not open until sometime in May, most likely, so no, it will not be open April 29th.
  4. you stated, just above, that the parks, in your opinion, were sold, which, I can tell you that they are not. Like I said, believe whomever you'd like, your call. I know what I know and someday you'll know what I know.
  5. Like I said, it's still in progress. I can't say more than what I already have because I do not know any more. Take what I say with some truth, or don't. It won't hurt my feelings.
  6. Just as a quick note, the games were $3 last year, at least. I went down to visit their VP of resale, since he's a friend of mine, and he let me work a game when I was there, and it was $3, as were all the games of the people I brought with me... I could ask the Games GM down there what he's charging, since he's a good friend of mine too.
  7. The parks have not been sold, yet. They hope to complete the sale sometime in June. There are sale presentations going on currently. They will have initial bids done in April, final bids in May and June. Sale is hopefully done end of June. That's what I know.
  8. I remember those things. I can picture them in my head right now. Not sure I ever had one though...
  9. Haha, a 600 foot coaster named Jimmy Neutrons Atom Buster would be hilarious. Why did they have to theme bumper cars after Jimmy, why not a new coaster
  10. it's in the park, and, when I was at work yesterday, part of it was in Nick U, so they are at least getting ready to assemble it, if they havent started already.
  11. the avatar track is green, and that's the only new track were getting.
  12. It didn't seem like there were to many parts to the disk'o. When I saw it in the parking lot last week, it seemed like it could be built pretty quickly if needed.
  13. for PKI in particular, getting rid of passes would be a travesty and a terrible business idea. We get most of our business from pass holders. Most of our traffic is the local community with these passes. We all know that there's not much else to do in the Ohio area, except visit the park... The park has one of the highest amount of season pass visitors in the industry. What I mean is, we have a very large percentage of our 3 million or so visitors a year from passes. I don't remember the exact percentage, but it's significant. Back towards the real quesiton at hand, yes, a gold pass is worth it. You have to like the walk on perks and everything else. I'd go gold, if I didn't work there...
  14. and judging by the happy sort of feel to the posts, I shall assume you were hired into rides... Where?
  15. maybe something is up though, I just went to the site and couldnt get prices... Who know.s
  16. all the reports I have heard are trying to sell the parks as a whole along with a theming package. It would be hard not to sell the rights to the Paramount Characters at least for some amount of time. You want get to many serious bidders if they know that within a year they have to retheme everything you have built the year before. I bet there will be some grace period, probably more than at least 10 years.
  17. I worked my way into supervisor now AM positions in games. I will not say pay is super great, but I love what I do and it pays the bills and gives me spending cash... What more can I ask for? I'd hate to work somewhere I didn't like... and make less. Until I get my degree this is the best job for me. Even after I will stick around until I find that perfect full time job where it's fun and benefits are nice. I know it may take some time to find that, but I am happy where I am until then.
  18. Cedar Fair has been looking at the Paramount Properties for quite some time... Just a little note. Also, these are the potnetials, but I do believe there are several other bidders. Do not rule out the possibility of a private investor. There's a lot that can happen between now and the sale of the park. One thing that wasn't mentioned in the thread but was mentioned in the article was the Paramount and CBS may sell, at least lease, the right to continue the use of the names of nick rides and attractions for some time so that a change wasn't needed immediately.
  19. WHAT? I was going to ask the same thing...
  20. There is always an interested buyer on the market when they make it known that they are in the process of selling something. It's true for any big business. They are not going to simply release the info to the media with no potential buyers in mind... The media is not a giant classified ad for amusement parks - or any business for that matter... When it was said the parks were probably going to be sold, I would not be suprised if they had several offers on the table. It's a possibility that the parks may have already been sold as well. We will probably not know for a few months regardless.
  21. As has been mentioned, the parks are in the process of being sold. Where they are in this process has not be discussed outside a very small group of very important people I'm sure. Now, that being said, they estimate this sale will be finalized late '06 probably after August (that's just based on the very small info I have seen.) This being said, the park will be well into full swing and not many, if any changes would occur in the remainder of the season. You would most likely see a change beginning of next season at the earliest. I do not know the position your friend is in at the park, but I do know that they are a seasonal employee and not one of the parks many full time staff due to the fact you said they work summer only. This being said, there's a very small, if any, chance they would get fired once this sale is complete. I am not trying to offend them in any way, but they are probably to far down the ladder to be affected by any firings that take place. In fact, I don't even think much of our full time staff would have to worry, except for the very top of the ladder. This is all just my assumptions based on what I know about the park and general business practices though. As far as the parks schedule, yes it does have reduced hours, but this was Paramount Parks decision and not some potential buyer. There are reasons for us opening later and closing earlier, but I do not think they need to be shared here. I assure you the limited hours was not due to another company and the hours are always subject to change, but unlikely.
  22. if you're just transferring rides within the rides department, you would most likely not need an interview unless you were a supe... If you do departmental changes, the new department may request an interview depending on the department. They may just want to see if you have the skills needed in that department is all.
  23. I do know that whoever mentioned people hitting their hands on The Beast, that's true. However, I have never met anyone who did it on accident. Yes, you heard me right, I have never heard of anyone do it on accident. I have had several ACErs ask where first aid was because they wanted to touch their hands on The Beasts tunnel during the final helix. So, just be smart about it and don't get yourself hurt.
  24. coastergirl, it depends on what you do each year... I know if you switch departments, you often have to be reinterviewed. Typically though you just have to send in a new application and the other forms and then you're good to go. Also, if you work winterfest and work the last week of the year, (defined monday-sunday, ie. if Jan 1 falls on any day of that week) you are technically active the next year and do not even need to reapply, but just fill out a few tax forms and what not.
  25. I was the same way... back when I was hired, job fairs weren't nearly as big an event. The job fair I was hired at was in Casting office, then just called HR. I went in, filled out an application, had an HR interview, then a games interview, was hired the same day, and the rest is history.
