Opening day weather forecast not looking so good
Outdoor Man replied to lopan's topic in Kings Island
thats three LOUSY saturday's in a row.... but by FAR the most PUTRID! -
was up in Put-in-Bay last summer and a random merry-go-round with about 2-3 riders per hour had a full-functioning organ/band playing. If this random location has one operating, surely a well-funded park can get theirs running...

image 12... I always wondered what happened to that.

so... does this mean this thread will be retired by next week? This has been GREAT with all of the history pictures. Really sets the bar high for subsequent off-seasons.

Question about the Beastie (Woodstock Express)
Outdoor Man replied to esquire's topic in Kings Island
Well, the kiddie coaster in the Magic Kingdom just got a name change and the Tiki room is under new management. Magic Kingdom rides 2 rides, 2 name changes over 50+ years. Kings Island- countless rides, 40 years, sometimes as many as four name changes. -

Something I like about Disney (like their really comparable...) - ride names don't change. They tend to stick with what they started with. -
Question about the Beastie (Woodstock Express)

I believe the coaster in question opened with the park as the "Scooby Doo" didn't it? http://rcdb.com/72.htm?p=24537 -
3 quick questions...(1) Almost hard to see at first, but could anybody please tell me what the name of the sky ride that's going over the building and (in your opinion) why another one hasn't replaced it yet? (2) What were those red poles (3 in the picture) that are identical in the childrens area? (3) I don't see any fencing anywhere...where people polite enough to stay on the sidewalks and didn't need corralled back then? I remember some of KI, but being under 5 back in those days...I get KI and Americana memories mixed up. Coca-Cola had their employee days there at Americana and coming to KI was a bonus. All I can remember at KI at that age was the Log Flume, something with the Flintstones and seeing people walking their invisible dogs on leashes...oh the live water show. Thanks. 1) that's the old skyride brought from Coney Island to Kings Island. It stopped running late 70's or early 80's (can't remember) 2) the red poles held a sort of shade mechanism that came from the lone pole in the center 3) we used to be a much more intuitive society...

Legit Dippin Dots news?
Outdoor Man replied to Browntggrr's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
$12.7 million??? not bad for a bankrupt company. Not a bad idea, I should run my business into the ground, then list for sale... -
... and the new entrance is aptly named "New Entrance."
-
I agree. if done right, KI (or any of the CF parks) could do great business for Winterfest. Went to the Columbus Zoo (I forget the name) last November and it was wall-to-wall people. Anyone who has seen the lengths that Disney goes to (if even by picture) for the Christmas season would guess that if done right it would be a cash-cow. Do they have the stomach for it? If led by Kinzel, no. With the new guy and a history of success (80's and 90's)- it is a possibility, though I wouldn't look for anything in 2012.

rust-yellow doesn't work either.

Maple Grove? Of course. No, I believe he was referring to Geauga Lake.

here's a question- wonder if any of the thousands of trees cleared for SOB got reused in it's construction.

"Then I rode Hurled 1 more time, and realized storks were coming. So I took one last ride on Intimidator, so I could get a ride photo. Then we went back to our car and it started to rain. Overall, it was a great dayvand I got a to. of rides in. got to watch it when those lousy storks approach. they could really kill a day of fun on a coaster.

since Cedar Point is the flagship park in the chain (a designation that KI had under the PKI years) I'm guessing that there is something "better" about theirs, so let's say- the Ki WindSeeker for the Cedar Point WindSeeker. Even-Steven.

The Beach Closing after 27 Years
Outdoor Man replied to Gordon Bombay's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
... i'm way too opinionated to jump into this one. Let me just say ditto to everything the Honorable Gordon Bombay said. -
I may be late to the ponderosa here- but it action theater closed now?
-
it would be interesting if one of the old trains were still around. The track was red with black supports. would have been pretty cool (i think) if when the name "Top Gun" met its demise, the CF Brass renamed the coaster "The Bat," "Bat's Revenge" etc... and gave it the old color scheme. the layout of the track is very attune to that of a bat- moreso than a flight deck; there aren't too many flight patterns that go around trees like that... but bats do.

Does anyone know if the park still has anything left from The Bat? Not talking about things on the ground or holes notched about doorways- more like signs, logos, or theming.

The Beach Closing after 27 Years
Outdoor Man replied to Gordon Bombay's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
the west side of the interstate exit at one time included much grander plans than what we see today... The Beach had really deteriorated over the last few years- the grounds were not as manicured as they once were- and I agree with Mr. Bombay... nothing new in the last decade, I think- lent itself to a decline. As far as things finding their way to KI (or other)- the tubes above are pretty old- and the really unique slides are cement and follow the ground. It's VERY unfortunate- but I can only see bull-dozers in the future. -
Simple math, Width X Height +1 even so. fingers were counting a row of vertical and a row of horizontal to arrive at sum values to plug into a calculator.
-
it bothers me that someone (and probably others) took the time to count and do the math on that one.

the font is strikingly close to the Firestone logo.
