i like the shoe store music analogy. I miss the "International" music that played on Intl. Street- the German music that played in Oktoberfest- the old-town music that played in Rivertown... As I walk through the gates, seeing the Eiffel Tower doesn't exactly strike me as "top 40/pop" music ambiance. I keep holding out hope that the new CEO, especially with his background, will take the excellent theming already in place and begin to use it...

there's going to be some level of "crane" activity in the general vicinity of SoB in the coming weeks. My guess is that they are clearing a path to the main structure and probably has nothing to do with Flight Deck's removal.
-
I point I would like someone to clarify- the 50' observation deck on the Eiffel Tower- Shaggy said it closed in 1983, never to reopen. I seem to recall climbing to that level at least into the mid-90's.... didn't I?
-
wow; i stand corrected. i must say, I don't pay much attention to their conference calls. This, does, however make the SOB instance even more elementary; if they're on the hook for 100% of the liability- they're going to be REAL conservative when it comes to "risky" attractions. Back to the original point from way... earlier then, imagine the lawsuits flying from frost bites.

I don't have insider information, so I can't really comment for certainty that Cedar Fair is or is not self-insured, but I'm going to go out on a HUGE limb and say that they are not. Not even P&G is self insured from a liability standpoint. Health insurance, maybe- not from a liability perspective.
-
though I could see it happening some day, I wouldn't hold my breath for it soon. Over the next few years there are going to be a lot of moving parts at the park beginning with the re-purposing of a large pile of lumber. I think that SOBs fate has been known since 2009. My unqualified guess is that when the last lady said she was hurt the insurance company said "close it or you're on your own."- and that it has simply been taking up space until a master plan for the area was created. if they intended top open it I would assume that test trains would have graced the tracks over the past 3 years. anyway, developing that area is going to be a monumental task- and creation of a new event would be a distraction to that.

there were a handful of rides open: scooby doo, carousel, train, and maybe a handful of nick u rides.

meanwhile, back at the reality ranch. 'if' Winterfest made a return, it wouldn't be 2012, something would hsve been announced by now. WindSeeker, not to mention, The Beast would NEVER operate in the winter. i could just imagine the frost bite lawsuits on that one. that being said, with Cedar Fairs ceo being a former Disney'ite, he has seen first hand what a park can do under the lights. i could see reboot of the event in the future. i honestly think that paramounts biggest mistake was pricing it so high. other than that i thought it was awell planned event (though i wasn't a fan of the tower/tree lighting scheme.

see jazzland, astro , geauga lake, kentucky kingdom, etc... plus wasn't there a bankruptcy in there somewhere
-
park chains all have their plusses and minuses, but ki definitely in better hands with Cedar Fair.
-
what i find odd is that with a line that could account for a 3-hour wait, where they have a concession stand selling drinks.... the nearest set of restrooms is NO WHERE close (and never has been).

for what's its worth... where does Jurassic Park fit into Coney Mall?
-
The Bat. The very thing that made it so unique was what caused it's demise unfortunately. The original Enchanted Voyage maybe most is the consistent theming that has been lost over the years.

did you turn around after every act and every joke to see what was going on? I'm not going to argue the point. You're entitled to yours. I've owned a season pass for 23 of the 40 years of the park, spend a fist full of cash every time we go- and as one of their long-time patrons- I'm saying the show is inappropriate and they could do better. the guy even asked an 8-year old boy (audience volunteer)- what the he## he was doing? granted it was jokingly, but... Will that keep us from the park, no. We're taking our kids tonight. Anyway, like I said, jot in your calendar to circle back on this conversation with Mr. Schrute 20 years from now when you're in your mid-thirties.
-
we'll circle back on this point when you're 35'ish. We were there at the show yesterday and were not alone in vacating the theater. A non-dipping dots employee of the park even remarked that the number of families with young kids that leave by the middle of the show is staggering.
-
without getting in depth too much- the Circus show IS very inappropriate for kids. Wait about 15 years when you have young kids, daughters particularly, and try to sit while several 18-24 year old girls are scantily dressed dancing seductively on stage at a family attraction. By your post, I'm guessing your a mid-teen boy. not surprised you liked the dancing; I would have too at that age. When half their audience is kids, I'm not sure who they're dancing for.

just came from a date night with my wife... no kids. I don't think I have seen the parking lot that full in a while. We were there from 8-midnight. 2 (two) rides, one of which was Adventure Express, which I must say- I think is the best "themed" ride there now. Playing the Raiders of the Lost Ark theme in the line was a nice touch... didn't know they could do that. Idea! Someone needs to develop an app that chronicles wait times for rides and attractions. Disney World has one of those... and it was THE most useful tool while there. Kings Island has an app- but between us girls... it's pretty useless. something that people can check their phones for wait times would be GREAT. we need to get some 10-year old on that!

I just meant if it part of it was standing in 2013. Nobody knows how long or how short of a time period it will take to remove Son of Beast except park management. Money will control most of that. I am guessing it is at least 1 million if not more, to have the ride taken down. Thats a chunk to eat for something to be removed. Things always come down faster than when they are built. I am guessing before Christmas it will be gone. Hope someone has a good idea for all that lumber. Huge cost just sitting there. Here's hoping to them using most of it for a new wood coaster that works right! some gasoline and a set of matches and I'll have it down in hours. and will do it for a fraction of a million. Say, $100k. Of course it may bring some other things down with it.

... that was me. I believe my family was in that end of the park when I saw a group of people "not dressed like park patrons", if you know what I mean. They were over by the race cars looking at SOB and making hand gestures. Wanted to hear what they were talking about, but not trying to be obvious. I didn't move, but on their way back (and they weren't being quiet or secretive about it)- one of them said, "well, we have a few months before that announcement is made." Someone mentioned above that they thought it would be a few years before something is in there. My guess is that they have known this outcome for some time, and were keeping it up until they had a plan ready for the area. If I were a betting man, I'd say that the area will be an ongoing project for the park in a new area with a first phase opening of 2014.

WAIT A MINUTE! Is this the "classic" coaster being rumored to be moved to Coney Island? Dwight K Schrute called it first!
-
i think i'm going to fall over from that surprise. Honestly. If you didn't expect this you were obviously on another planet with your fingers in your ears, eyes closed, and facing the opposite direction. It was going to stand until park officials had a plan. Look for another announcement regarding said future expansion... let's start a thread on that!

The Beach Waterpark Redesign Thread
Outdoor Man replied to Coney Islander's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
a mini golf place and a water park isn't exactly an apple's to apple's comparison. It will be nice for the Beach to get some "new-ness" to it. I'm not sure when the last new attraction added was. My family and I went there last summer and.... it was getting a bit, shall we say, stale. there were some areas of the park that smelled that way too. I think Adventure Holdings made a "class" move by saying they'd honor the 2012 season passes... i can't help but think that may hurt them significantly financially in the first year though. -
"When I'm about to do something I ask, 'would an idiot do this?'- and if they would, I do not do that thing." -Dwight K. Schrute

In regards to Geauga Lake's RWB coaster. Meh... it was a lackluster coaster to begin with. One would have to wonder why it is being dismantled as opposed to knocked down though. A replica of Shooting Star would cinch a big response.

the image on the email is surely just clipart relative to Christmas that park has of their own... and doesn't have to pay a third party for. However, with a new CEO at the helm I could see it as a future consideration- very doubtful that December 2012 would qualify as "future" though (i have been wrong before though).
