I could see the old Crypt building being developed into a great dark ride of sorts (see CF CEO comments in other places about development of such rides- most outside this forum). Unfortunately, custom builds like that take a few years planning, designing and building. My guess (and certainly an unqualified opinion)- it would be '15 at the earliest before anything worthwhile could go in there. I have to agree through about SOB's station just sitting there 11 months out of the year as a relic of a past regime.

couple of thoughts. I loved WinterFest (first run and Paramount redux)- so his response was encouraging. Definitely leaving the door open, whereas I think the answer in 2006/2007 was a resounding "NO." that said, with all due respect to Don and his position, a PR guy is several links down the chain when it comes to decision making capacities. What I do like is that Don probably does not comment on anything he isn't authorized to. So, if I'm a bettin' man (which I'm not)- based on my neanderthal thinking I'm guessing there's a feasibility study going on regarding the details of a Cedar Fair run Winterfest. There are actually probably few left in the administration that were here for the last go-'round. With an X-Disney CEO at the helm... a 2014 or 2015 Winterfest would be one not to miss!

I don't necessarily feel like 2005 was thrown together. They were planning it well before the season began and testing sets the while season. In 2004 they decorated a tree in the nick area to test the electrical circuits for the load and about burnt the tree down... Because it was the only tree decorated. But other than the pricing strategy coming from somewhere in left field I thought it was a great effort. More rides being open wouldn't make it draw more people. Most of the rides, coasters for instance, would gift people with frost bite. Having been able to be closer to certain details with the columbus zoo, their Wild Lights event doesn't have half the ambiance that winterfest had.... And it is always packed. I think cf strategy going forward is to figure out ways to make the parks profitable in the 6 months a year no one enters. Quality employees are an issue though. I could see cf exploring this in years to come. The year they cut it, they had just spent 1.2 billion on a park chain... And weeks after had to deal with a coaster injuirng people, then add a major event that had bugs to still be worked out... It was probably a very easy decision to cancel it.

Don't think it would succeed in 2013 for lack of planning... Joke. Do I wish it would?, yes. Do I think it will?, an obvious - no. Will it ever again? Not sure. Kinzel as CEO, no. Current CEO, wouldn't rule a feasibility study out.

Technicaly no, because that is park property, which is now closed to the public for the season. You would need special permission from the Park to do so. I'm sure Don will post plenty of pics in the offseason from close in, so no need to risk arrest to get a pic from hundreds of feet away. that, and if people are in there taking pictures, the Mason Police won't have anywhere to sit and clock drivers on Kings Island Drive. Actually it is KI property (I think anyway)- but have see cars in there on occasion talking on cell phones or other items that can't be done while driving. I wouldn't classify pulling in there as trespassing per se.

It may have been mentioned previously, and if it was- consider this a "second." I don't think that Action Zone will be called "Action Zone" next year. And with the station under The Bat being gutted- i think that this area may become a benchmark for improved theming at the Island.

Bravo. I'm going to go out on a limb and project that the whole Action Zone area is up for a redesign for 2014.... sort of like "all things creepy" with some of the Haunt things being year-round. Just a guess. I agree with some of the posts here; The Bat logo's from 1980 were pretty good- would like to see the old bat heads as well... Good move KI.

Congratulations! I do think, also, it is neat that someone with a true affinity for the "product" is now employed, in part, to market it. This assures that the main thrust of your job is a hobby. Its odd that attendance at KI is at all time highs... and now they don't have it. With gas at $3.50+/gallon, its easy to see why its discontinued. It would be nice, but- moving on.

I agree, in part, to some of the detraction from this point.... BUT construction project can be engineered around "marketing." In this instance there's no small reason why the coaster was announced oddly around the time 2014 Season Passes went on sale. exposure to the anticipating public is great exposure.

The pond indent is pretty intriguing to the coaster and had a bit of geometry, physics, etc... Involved. Next time you go to ki go up in the Eiffel Tower and watch the splashdown. The spray comes up and seems to contour to the pond. The pond shape, in my opinion, was 100% planned to be as is.
