Coasterz... i think actually they did mention the park's name; maybe not on signage.... but I think at the beginning of the episode they do mention the name of the park.... I'll tell you January 10th... but that's interesting that nothing else has names.... that much I do believe.

the old addage that tv makes things appear larger than they really are..... well, the park must have seemed enormous since it took 5 people and 10 minutes in a dead sprint to get from one end to the other.

I want to know why the family was dining at the beer gardens? wasn't that supposed to be a family show?

stupid mike brady. Now, that would have been a story. Marsha's face take out by a camera. My question is Brady Bunch was a Paramount Television franchise. Did Paramount have some marketing agreements with the former owners way back when.... or did Paramount always have a stake in ownership before becoming the sole owners?

Winter Fest attraction?
Outdoor Man replied to Face/OffJZ's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
"murder the elves?????" that will be a nice christmas twist... how 'bout this year, he go "total tank." (from the 1st Santa Claus movie). -
mark your calendars for the estimated release date of Tuesday, January 10, 2006. Amazon.com is reporting that the above date is the estimated release of the Brady Bunch, season 5..... which includes the infamous visit to our beloved park in what I believe is it's 2nd or 3rd year of operation. A LOT has changed.... good footage of the canoe ride that used to be where The Beast is. I hated the Brady Bunch, but I'll have to shell out the $30 or so to nab the season for the episode. I have tried to "google" and "Limewire" sites that may have that episode downloaded... but to no avail. Maybe this DVD will have cast commentary- though I know that most of the cast members really don't have much to do with the show at all. just an fyi.

FOF1996.... depends on weather. I think that they can open on 10 straight days of at or below freezing temps. a few years ago (2000, i think) they opened a week before Thanksgiving, which i think was the earliest they had ever (there's a story for the global warming faithful).... but in years past I believe the average is about the 2-3rd week of December.

yea, very "not feasible" monitarily- but it's nice to think about. never happen, though. upper michigan is about the closest for excellent skiing. West to Boyne Highlands skiing last year.... AWESOME; was on the slopes from 9am until close- 11pm-ish...... hurt like he## the next day, but i'd do it again!

it is great when other people do not see fit to accept anyone's view other than their own. The post that everyone appears to be commenting on (sorry- don't remember the name)- but a 40 year old that pays a small fortune to get a family in the park should come to expect some level of excellence. I have worked at PKI in the volunteer program several times this year in various positions and was stunned at some (not all) of the lack of work ethic... it really made those who like their jobs much harder because they had to pull the weight of everyone else. Now, while I don't agree with all of his opinions (they are his based on experience of what happened to him).... PKI, I think did an outstanding job on theming for fearfest this year! Really, congrats to all who participated in the creation of the atmosphere... it was really outstanding. I did not take in any of the attractions, but was really impressed by all I saw. Now, to Winterfest- no criticisms here, from everything I have seen thus far it looks like they are going "all out" on this, but for the price I hope that they offer more than it appears they are. $24 for admisson seems a little excessive (not to mention with the always pricey food). I do intend to go despite the cost. The walk-through in and of itself will be worth the experience.... but the cost will determine if it is one or many visits.

**UPDATE** Let the Winterfest Preparations Begin!
Outdoor Man replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
this is going to "date" me..... but if I am not mistaken- and someone can correct me. but the last year they had winterfest, i think parking was free and general admission was a whopping $5.95 -
don't you miss the time when the marketing was specific to the park it was intended for? Everything now is just painted with a broad brush and fits under one huge umbrella.

they had the bumper cars open for winterfest? not disputing, but I don't remember that. I remember the horse carriage rides going back through Coney Mall and the place being pretty much desolate...... and creepy. I remember in 92, the year Phantom theater opened... and it being soooooo cold out (during WinterFest)- the furnace room at the end of the ride...... oh, yea- that hit the spot... then you walked out and froze again. Did WinterFest run in 1993 or was 1992 the last year?

I think Kings Island would do good to open a museum of it's history. It is a decently storied history that goes back almost 100 years. It would be neat for a new generation of people to hear the Coney Island story and how Kings Island evolved to Paramount's Kings Island.

have they released maps with the "open" attractions yet? I assume that about 50% of the park will be accessible. The pond back by Rivertown will be illuminated, so it will be open back to there and probably to those restrooms (blocked off towards Vortex though)... Cant' imagine much of Coney Mall being open, though FOF could be... and there isn't much to do in 20 degree weather in the Action Zone area. Though if they said that for one day The Beast would be open I would be willing to bet between 90% of the population on this site would fill the line.... someone needs to come up with a spoof of the movie "Fever Pitch" with some of the people on this site in regards to PKI. I'd buy a ticket..... (maybe at the dollar movie)

was there ever a Captain Caveman character roaming? and I have to agree with FOF1996.... we need a Beavis & Butthead ride... they could call the rethemed Beastie that... paint it yellow and it shall be called Cornholio.
-
that's sad.... I only vaguely remember a time when Fred Flintsone had free reign around the park and the HB Carousel..... ALWAYS had to ride Jabber Jaws. I don't even know what cartoon that belonged to, but remember always having to sit in his jaws.... is that carousel even still there/themed the same. I say I'll miss those attractions but I can't honestly say I've paid much attention to them in recent years. ah... the Jetson's.... Mr. Spacely. owned by WB... at least they'll live on.

nice egg-shell walking StXSteven. That's kind of funny to watch the minute someone posts a "possibly incorrect" statement, those on the Gestapo are quick to pounce on it..... anyway- is Hanna Barbera as a company pretty much extinct? You look at the line of cartoons they made and it's pretty impressive. It will happen some day, but it will be sad when SCatHC finally changes call signs. As far as the topic is concerned, I loved growing up on Flintstones, Scooby Doo, Tom & Jerry, Bugs Bunny, etc... and not too much attune to the Nick characters. My daughter is just a few months old so I guess I better prepare- but as much as I hate to see the old HB rides and theming go, this Nick Universe is a huge investment in the park and means it is alive and well for the investment; which also privides job security for some of you (like it or not) anyway- bye, bye HB (RIP)..... hello Nick!

Another innocent hurricane victim
Outdoor Man replied to Akira1422's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
they or someone will find a way to re-open.... EXTENSIVE floods came to visit Coney Island every 15 years or so..... and it always reopened.... most recently 1997. My guess; the coasters will ride again. -
so, what attraction in HB is getting the boot to accomodate Avatar? And what exactly is this coaster supposed to be... the site says a coaster like "none other..."
-
really... they are getting more than one? I kind of knew that the Nic area was getting one... but- what's the story on the other?
-
tunnels would add to the "thrill" factor, but wouldn't do a thing for the ride/maintenance.... however, placing an underground tunnel at the base of the first drop would have been killer.
-
eh- but they're fun to read. about SOB... honestly, and it would take a smarter chimp than i to figure this, but is it really the track? even on the lead out from the station you can feel the bumpiness coming. there can't be that much of a speed difference on the helix parts compared to The Beast and it's not as bad. could it be that the suspension on the trains is so tight that makes it seem harsh? I love the imposing figure that SOB is upon entering the park. i took some friends from CA to the park this summer and when they saw the mass of lumber shooting 200'+ into the sky they were in awe. i wish that when they designed it, they used more of the terrain. thats one of the elements that makes The Beast so memorable... going back through the woods, tunnels literally in the ground. i hope though they do get the kinks worked out and it doesn't follow the unfortunate path of other maintenance plagued coasters.... Bat, Cobra, etc... it's a great addition to the PKI skyline.

I mostly referring permanent landscaping, not necessarily the seasonal type. Which reminds me, what ever happened to that big-a## flower pot that used to hang back by the Rivertown LaRosa's? Was that a Paramount power-down or has it been gone longer than that? Wasn't it dubbed as the largest hanging pot record holder? sorry to the original post, but this is probably way off topic.
