I didn't think guests were allowed to photograph or film rides while riding?

This statement: "prioritize distributions to shareholders, rather than focusing on paying down debt" ... makes my head hurt. At some point the vitality and longevity of the company as a whole has to come ahead of 'shareholder distributions'... Continue to pay out the distributions and in 10 years perhaps there might not be a company to pay out those distributions... Laugh at Kinzel & Co. all you want, and crack those nickel jokes until the cows come home (which I don't particularly find humorous) - I really do think he has Cedar Fair's best interest at heart, and suspending the distribution to pay down debt, to me, affirms that. I think despite what some outsiders may think, he is well informed and acts on information not on willy-nilly feelings. Could someone do better? Sure. Could it be a whole lot worse? I think we all know the answer to that. The winds of change are blowing through the corporate office in Sandusky, maybe not tomorrow, or next week but you can't live/work forever... and don't forget... Hindsight is 20/20

Should KI and Cedar Fair Discontinue Halloween Haunt?
Erosarrow05 replied to RaptorGuy's topic in Kings Island
It took me reading the replies to the original post to realize "RaptorGuy" was actually being serious and I feel slightly bad for chuckling through it. ( Can you imagine the audacity of Cedar Fair condoning plastic skeletons in public view during October? At last check every person on this earth is going to die, so you'll end up in a box or a coffee can - if seeing said box is too traumatizing for you perhaps you should relocate to candyland - and as someone who has stage 3 cancer, Im not offended by it in the slightest) Remember, this event is so poorly orchestrated it was ranked 5th in its category by Amusement Today. Also, countless people spend countless hours to conceptualize this event and make it come to life every night, which is no easy task and while I don't particularly care for Halloween events, as I am a card carrying registered member of the sissy-club, I still respect what they have done, and how successful they have made it. You've made some very negative and sweeping generalizations about the clientele of Halloween Haunt that are essentially nothing more than rubbish validated only by your preconceived dislike for what you think the event stands for and no fact. Im sorry, if that comes off as rude but I feel it's the truth and I have always had a hard time with people who try to evaluate an event, a product ect. and can only harp on what they consider negative aspects without being able to offer a fair, biased opinion offering the positive and the negative. Truth be told anytime throws 'holy' into an debate, I have to tune it out - at last check the official religion of Kings Island was Kinzelism not Christianity, Judaism or even Islam (even though people flock to KI like its mecca)... Separation of Church and Park is a beautiful thing... RaptorGuy, you are entitled to your own opinion, and though I vehemently disagree with it, I respect it... my only questions to you are... 1.What did the Guest Relations representative say to you when you commented on your displeasure in the event and presented your catalogued list of offensive components with recommendations for their rectification and creators termination? 2. Do you feel the same way towards individuals who decorate their homes in a 'frightening motif', private organizations or companies who run haunted attractions, companies who sell 'scary' merchandise, the film industry (generalization - scary movies) as you do about Kings Islands Halloween Haunt? I guess the question is - do you feel that Halloween world wide should be celebrated with "some nice fall decorations, like pumpkins, corn stalks with orange and purple ribbons, some things like that." ? Again, if I came off as rude - I apologize - but I don't think most of your comments and generalizations are fair and i don't subscribe to that school of thought... But I am eager to your responses. -
Sweet mother of god... The exact same thing can be said about Cedar Point. Every queue (both rides and food stands) spilled heavily onto the midway creating some painfully long waits which also caused some confusion with guests. If you were able to find a parking space on point after 3 pm, consider yourself blessed from whatever higher power you believe in, because folks - there was some divine intervention involved. Can I get a show of hands.... is anyone interested in waiting 45 minutes for the space needle??? Anyone? Anyone???? Bueller?? I wonder if today was an on point parking ban day for employees... I can't imagine they forecasted this many people, but maybe they did...

savethebigdipper.org
Erosarrow05 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Has it been publicly stated how much the big dipper was sold for this time and who financed it? Additionally would it be fair to say this project is essentially just a fundraiser at this point? The website leaves more questions to be answered than it actually answers unfortunately. I'd be eager to know how much money would be needed before work could be begin - or perhaps how the $300,000 dollars is be allocated around the whole project. As soon as a more detailed plan of action is available I'd be much more willing to donate, but I think that goes for a lot of people - especially outside of the 'enthusiast community'... I may be wrong but, people want to know what their money is going. I have little doubt though the website will grow with more information as time progresses but I can't imagine the new owners want nature to do anymore damage than it already has. I wish them both all the luck in the world getting the project off the ground, but to me, in my humble opinion, this seems like one massive undertaking - especially when fifty percent of your staff lives on another continent. I hope some generous people with experience who are local to the project are able to lend a helping hand because it's clear their hearts are in the right place... now it just needs to materialize. Hopefully Santa is good to them this Christmas... (btw - are they a 501 c3??) With regards to the parody website... I have to agree with Bombay... I read it and knew it was instantly a joke, and admittedly I chuckled while reading it. Did I think it was kind of a silly joke? Yes, and though I don't know Mr Alvey I can't imagine he would be malicious enough to sabotage a project like this. It would be different if he was actually taking money away from the project in a fraudulent manner. It was a joke, some thought it was funny, some thought it went over like a lead balloon - be that as it may he obviously understood there were some people who didn't find it humorous, and were offended by it and rather than pretending that it didn't exist - he did make a post to explain where he was coming from and try to create some peace. So in any event - I hope good luck comes to this project as I wouldn't mind taking a spin on the Geauga Lake Kidney Crusher... Big Dipper Have a good weekend everyone! -
With regards to the IS dining facility... While my feelings are not acrimonious at neither Cedar Fair, nor its predecessor I am slightly disappointed there is still no indoor table service facility at Kings Island. I suppose this disappointment stems from feeling as though I am being taken advantage of for the sole reason of 'their ability to be take advantage of the client' i.e. make them pay top dollar, for a lackluster product, make them wait in line to get it, then find a seat and have to clean the previous diners garbage from the table... Especially when one travels to the Mecca of theme parks - Orlando - and you not only get a better quality product from a friendlier staff, but at a lower price point. Truth be told, (and this is in no way a plug) you can go to The Beach and find a higher quality product at a lower price point In my eyes, I would be a little more willing to spend the price they are asking, if it were a full service facility. I don't particularly care where the facility is located, to be honest, I don't think I could provide a suitable location if asked, but that is what R&D is for I suppose. I am not remotely naive enough to think Cedar Fair is in business for anything else but to make money - it's a business. However, when your business relies so heavily on client satisfaction (although, what business doesn't?) it would seem to me it is time the executives at Cedar Fair, be it the good ole' boys or the new blood, start asking themselves the following question with regards to future expansions... It isn't necessarily do we have to, but moreover, should we? Just my opinions though...

OFFICIAL! Son of Beast Will NOT Operate in 2010

LoL... I think it might be fair to say the pot has reached boiling point ... I just pray it was said in this vein... -

Whats the obsession with Kings Island Rides and riding them over and over again? Get it? Sorry, but I don't... Kings Island rides are unique, some might even say world class... In my opinion, that sentiment cannot be echoed for Live-E
-
I was responding to how you were upset someone in the front row spoke during the show. While I don't condone people talking through performances, I would also keep in mind where I was, a seasonal amusement park. I'd assume after 3 showings in one night I'd assume you got your fill for the season... If you don't mind me asking, and forgive the choice of words.... whats the obsession with Kings Island Live E?
-
I suppose, perhaps, you should keep in mind you are not at a Broadway production, rather that of a seasonal amusement park.

I think its fair to say that after skimming through just 3 or 4 pages of posts in this topic, there are those who are convinced this wrestling gig is a bad idea, and then there are those that don't. Pardon my choice of words, but I think its rather ignorant for someone to cancel the rest of their trips to Kings Island in the 2010 season over this little fight. I consider myself to be very, very liberal in my thinking and have always subscribed to the thought that if there was something that I don't want to participate in or view, I simply don't view it. Its a choice. We all have them. If you want to watch the fighting, then you are certainly able to, and by all means, enjoy it. If you choose to not view it, thats great as well, you have a great selection of other haunted attractions and rides to occupy your time with. In my opinion, this topic has been blown out of reasonable proportion and then some. It seems that in the bickering back and forth, the fact this is a show, meant to provide ultimately entertainment, has been lost in the shuffle. I'll go out on a limb here too, and go ahead and boo me if you want but I have every faith in the security personnel at Kings Island to ensure a safe and enjoyable atmosphere stays the course of Halloween Haunt. Sometimes I think not enough credit is given to that department in all honesty. So it all boils down to your choice - to watch, or not to watch... It seems so simple, and maybe its just me but out of everything going on today is this wrestling show, which is just as laughable and staged as all those other overly theatrical fighting shows, really worth getting all this bent out of shape over?
-
Doesn't surprise me. Alluna, I believe most people aren't concerned over the entertainment/type of show it is, but rather is Kings Island the appropriate venue for such things? Is Kings Island the appropriate venue to host the Tea Party movement? Some would say no...

... Kathy Griffin starts at 8:00 in Cleveland tonight! See you there tonight?
-
Im pretty sure if the 'haters, non-supporters and bigots' decide to purchase a ticket to the private event on September 10, they would be granted admission. How those 'haters, non-supporters and bigots' choose to behave is, of course, their choice. In other news - Kathy Griffin will be in Cleveland on Friday night so perhaps if 'Pride Night' isn't your thing, you could venture up north to see her as I know she is an advocate for "her gays"...

Didn't someone just yesterday say something about how they though Cedar Point and Kings Island would almost certainly not get copies of the same ride in the same year because they share parts of the same market? I can't remember who said it but the posters name jumped out at me because I happened to disagree with the poster, but then again I suppose I have more of a management view than a enthusiast spectator. In any event, I wonder what that poster has to say now that those two parks are indeed getting the same ride... BTW - total side note - Im currently in Las Vegas and to celebrate 2.5 years of enjoying all that is chemotherapy, radiation and cancer in general I participated in the Stratosphere Sky Jump today... Fantastic experience in case anyone was curious and tomorrow at noon I will be jumping out of my second airplane in the middle of the strip and lake mead. i did it last year and it was so much fun, and I figured 'hey, im still alive.. why not do it again'... Just a random statement... no roller coaster or thrill ride has ever provided me with the sheer terror, excitement and adrenaline rush that skydiving provided. I was thinking the other day about what kind of 'enthusiast' I could label myself because while roller coasters are fun, there are plenty of other activities that provide greater thrills... So since I seem to enjoy the thrill which is motivated by the inherent risk of the activity I think I am going to graduate myself to being an 'adrenaline rush enthusiast'.... Just my random two cents while I sit here and watch the fountains @ Bellagio...

*in the style of an elderly 80's italian sitcom star* "Picture it... Mason, 2005... A warm sunny day mid july as a young peasant girl walks over the bridge to the former Italian Job Stunt Coaster and looks down to see a concrete basin, with water 10 inches high " Does that help any? I have to assume you've seen the water in the 'splash' before, I can't imagine it looks any different. Unless that was a diminutive way of working in the always trendy, and usually annoying - oldie but goodie... "proof?" replies ... (as a side bar - it has a been a great long while since I have seen the onslaught of the 'proof' replies here... granted I've not spent a whole ton of time on KICentral this summer but I did notice the lack of those type comments in topics with speculation regarding SoB or 2011... a step in the right, welcoming direction no? ) :-D

(slightly off topic) Ki Man, I can only speak for myself, but in my opinion - The images you capture and share on this website are far superior to any other. In fact (unless I've missed something) I'd like to nominate that your photos go into the gallery. Off the top of my head your Diamondback photos were just stellar. Perhaps some of the current photos could be archived to make room for some of yours. Im not a photographer, but I do use professional images regularly in my real job, and I can say if I needed a picture of Kings Island - yours would be the ones I purchased. In general, your point of view is interesting and definitely 'off the beaten path.' I definitely look forward to your photograph posts in all honesty. Not to negate anyone else that posts, I appreciate everyones photos very much too. Just the fact you all decide to share them is fantastic. *notice you don't see me posting any pictures Ive taken... - but who wants to see pictures of me and my godson? snooze. * So Ki Man - for whatever my opinion is worth - to me, you are the crem de la creme
